Toxic players in retail are going to get a life lesson in classic

Whoa…Genie…were you one of those whippersnappers with 52k baud?

LOL nah man the REAL MMOs were MUDs…Remember Dark Castle? All text based and slash commands for movement and drinking a potion, attacking, defending, etc

“Guild full of old farts” would be much more accurate…

Lol dude you know how fast those guilds fell apart? They eat each other alive. Then the players quit or going less toxic guilds and learn to live by some rules.

There was hella toxic people in vanilla but it’s reached new heights in this day and age.

That only applies if the server populations actually down to Vanilla/Classic levels.
1 douchecanoe out of 5,000(Half of the estimated 10k server pop) people doesn’t get noticed. 1 douchecanoe out of 1,500 does(half of the OG 3k Vanilla server numbers).

Gemstone III. I was playing that when WoW first came out. I remember sneering at the WoW players because they had no imaginations and had to have games with graphics.

Hey, it was a MUD thing.

Blizzard is well aware what ‘makes a game work’. They simply don’t care. They unwilling to trade this business model. They’ve even stated that “Subscription count isn’t the main indicator of the games health anymore.” Basically confirming that they’re more interested in short term profits from a smaller number of their subscribers.

If retail wanted to bring back players they would remove the blizzard store to start.

I sincerely hope you are wrong, not because I want to disagree with you and cause drama, but because I want the classic community to be as good as the one I remember from days of yore

100% Agree. They also wouldn’t be doubling down on this stupid “vision” and “class fantasy” they seem to be shoving down our throats these days either. Changes for sake of change, completely throwing everything they built into the trash that we’ve grown accustomed to from day 1. And now all this QoL BS with multitag mobs, dungeon queues, having all the NPCs giving the quests inside the instance…porting into and out of said dungeon, but yet THOSE THINGS “can’t be removed cause they’ve been in the game so long” Sounds quite hypocritical to remove some things that have been in the game from day 1 that were part of the game FAR longer, only to use that excuse for the QoL and talent changes

If retail dies. Classic dies.

WoW as a whole dies.

So yeah, let’s hope that retail dies.

Yep. Often times the most dominate guilds on a realm were full of some of the worst people on the server. They simply thought they were better than everyone else and if you didn’t have the stuff they had they’d make fun of you for it.

Considering the average realm size is going to be larger for classic remake than the original, it’ll be easy for jerks, ninjas, and trolls to find groups.

No not really. They’re actually observing this project carefully. If classic does really well they will put most of their resources behind this sort of project. If it fails they will push the current WoW team more.

Classic WoW will be a huge success… So long as they don’t try to sneak a WoW store in, or police the community too much for chat or bullying.

Already there. Right-Click report is a thing. And the Code of Conduct is the same across ALL Blizzard games. Classic & Retail versions of WoW included.

oh god, I agree. Please no micro transactions here.

Don’t think for one second that Ion doesn’t have his hand in both pies.

Even IF retail dies and Classic takes off, as long as Ion is around it will not reach it’s full potential before he and his team kills that off too

If these forums are anything to judge the community off of, there are plenty of toxic people in Classic, too. Plenty of really nice and friendly people, as well. I really hope I end up finding a group of people in the latter category.

that’s toxic? Never play a competitive game my friend.

Facts.

I was in a guild that literally trashed talked everyone and had horrible attitudes on my server but they still raided and cleared content.

that’s just fear mongering. The only real threat would be a streamer like Soda using the option to try to ban people. So long as an actual person has to review an actual ban case, this wont work.

Even if it starts to be an actual problem, there will be a major backlash and blizzard will make changes.

Hell some of the most immortalized players in MMO history would be considered “Toxic” now. Remember LEEERROOOYYY JEEEENNNKKKINNNS much celebrated wipe pull? That video was one of the first viral videos and might have actually caused the jump in WoW subs (watch Madseason’s vid on Famous and Infamous players of WoW for the numbers). Today people would jump all over him as Toxic. Then there was the Raid leader screaming all the time “That’s negative 50 DKP”, again to the modern player that is toxic.
