I had never posted before, so I accidentally published in the Dungeons section. I later posted it in General Discussion because I thought it made more sense for it to be here.
I apologize for not knowing how the forums work due to my lack of experience. Sorry about that!
It is. But they’re leaning on the community by using looking for group or Chromie time to pull in other players. And when you take something, you owe something.
In this case, I’d argue they owe at least the courtesy and patience to have a better reason than some of the ones listed.
My suggestion would be to change the interface. Give the person who wants to start a kick two options: either select the “cause” for the kick (and report) from a menu of accepted reasons to penalize someone in that way or choose “end group” as an alternative. Which kicks the whole group.
And if folks feel that extra responsibility is unreasonable, they’re welcome to start a group outside of the community systems. There’s always the LFG channel in major cities.
Who determines what that drop down list includes? It won’t be Blizzard because they already made a decision on it. The group determines the reason and whether it’s valid or not.
Voting to kick someone is not the same as reporting someone. You can vote to kick someone without them breaking any rules.
Why should 4 people have to abandon their run because 1 person is messing around? I’m all for adding a vote to abandon so no one gets the debuff, but it’s not an alternative to vote to kick.
There is selection bias to worry about, in that people who’s runs go fine or kick people for valid reasons don’t make threads about it. So even if debatably ‘unjust’ kicks only cover 0.01% of kicks, they would still get nearly 100% of the coverage.
The other thing is that the system has no choice but to take everything players tell it at face value. Not doing that opens up the scenario where all 4 people want that 5th gone for a universally agreed upon reason (as a hypothetical, let’s say racism in chat), but if the system doesn’t take their word on it to avoid that small scenario, you end up with someone who clearly deserves to be kicked, and the other 4 players want to kick, but can’t.
The main thing to know there is that posting duplicate threads is technically against the rules, and can lead to forum permissions being temporarily revoked, even if this isn’t enforced nearly as often as most people would like.
The duration of that penalty is tied to the duration of deserter. if it’s advantageous to get kicked instead of leaving, people will do it that way.
So that would necessitate lowering baseline deserter to match.
If the answer of whom you’re accountable to is someone that does not actually have official authority to do anything about it, the person you’re accountable to is a vigilante.
Before you try to weasel, the report function gives you official authority. Authority to report people. Not to do anything about bad behavior.
This is why you’re still actioned if you instigated it or perpetuated it.
Well, it was my mistake. Maybe you don’t believe I’m new to the forums, but Blizzard does. They can see my account and know I’m not a troll or anything, and that my interaction here is legitimate and my first time on the forums. As others have mentioned, several people who disagreed with me tried to boycott my post and get it silenced, but a moderator republished it, approving it.
I’ve already apologized for my confusion, but we all make mistakes. I don’t know if you’re perfect—though, considering your promotion of vote kicks, maybe you are. After all, if you think the system works flawlessly, then I assume you’ve never been kicked, right?
I feel sad for people like you, of whom there are many in this thread, who so strongly support the toxic behavior of kicking others indiscriminately. Maybe I’m just a very sensitive person who suffers when I put myself in others’ shoes—like when my friend, who had only been playing the game for three months, got kicked. I suffered that situation as if it had happened to me, just as I would if another friend or even my little sibling were kicked by a toxic player who thought it was “fun” to do so.
There’s a severe lack of empathy in this thread—too much, in fact. All I see are comments like “The system is fine; anyone can be kicked for any reason.” How can you be so cruel to people who haven’t done anything wrong? It’s a pitiful attitude that reveals a lot about who you are as human beings.
What’s such a sin about not playing well? Is it enough to justify stealing 30 minutes of someone’s time when a dungeon only lasts 5 minutes? It’s sad, lamentable, and honestly makes me feel pity for your souls. I just hope that a beloved friend or family member of yours doesn’t experience this, so you can understand what many of us here feel.
What authority do you think I’m asking for? I already know each players character name since I just played with them.
The person should be accountable to the group for why they’re attempting to disrupt gameplay. If I try to wipe the group I should be held accountable by being booted, right? Is that vigilantism? Harassment? I legit would like an answer here.
Similarly if they’re trying to disrupt the group shouldn’t that be publicized within the group? The group can ask them why or remove them - the worst that can happen is removal which is the action they already attempted.
Very dramatic to call it vigilantism. I’ve stated clearly that harassment isn’t acceptable and people should be punished for it - however a message about it wouldnt be, nor was it in Wrath when you could message the leader for why you got booted.
No. Feel free to quote it.
Great, but isnt facing consequences or retribution like that evil? Oh, you’re fine with it here. Odd?
This is why it’s hard to take you seriously. You weren’t kicked indiscriminately, you were kicked because you’re bad at the game and that’s having a negative impact on the experience of four other people.
