Title: A Serious Issue with Dungeon Vote Kick System and Player Toxicity

Hello Blizzard team and fellow players,

I’ve been leveling multiple alt characters recently through Chromie Time dungeons, and I’ve encountered a recurring and increasingly frustrating problem: being unfairly kicked from dungeons. This issue has reached a point where it feels absurd and disheartening, and I feel compelled to share my experience in hopes that it sparks a conversation and action.

The Problem: Unjust Vote Kicks

After numerous dungeon runs, I’ve been kicked repeatedly, and while at first, I didn’t understand why (since the system doesn’t inform you of the reason), I later discovered the reasons thanks to a friend who accompanied me and could see the messages behind the votes. The patterns are deeply concerning:

  1. “Not Enough DPS” or “Useless” (6/10 cases)
  • In a non-competitive leveling dungeon, players are voting to kick others simply for not meeting arbitrary damage thresholds or, even worse, by labeling them as “Useless.”
  • This demonstrates that their “criteria” for kicking players is often baseless, relying more on personal whims or a desire to remove someone for no valid reason.
  • What’s worse, these kicks often happen right at the final boss of the dungeon, wasting all the time and effort invested.
  1. Minor Inconveniences or Personal Annoyances (2/10 cases)
  • I’ve been kicked for using addons that announce interrupts in chat or for something as trivial as saying “hello” in the group chat.
  • It feels like any small thing that a toxic player finds “annoying” can lead to a vote kick.
  1. Targeted Discrimination (2/10 cases)
  • I’ve been kicked purely based on my server. For example, one player said, “Oh, someone from Quel’Thalas? Yikes!” and two minutes later, I was kicked.
  • In another dungeon, I was kicked for voting “No” when someone else tried to unfairly kick another player.

These examples illustrate a disturbing misuse of the vote kick system. It’s not being used to deal with legitimate issues like AFK players, trolls, or truly disruptive behavior. Instead, it’s often weaponized for petty reasons or personal grudges.

The Bigger Issue: The Desertion Debuff

The most frustrating part of this situation is the “Deserter” debuff.

  • Being kicked for unjust reasons, I still receive a 30-minute penalty as if I had abandoned the group myself.
  • Why is there no differentiation between being kicked and leaving voluntarily? This system punishes the victim rather than addressing the root problem.

Imagine being a new player who is trying to learn the game. Instead of receiving support or guidance, they’re punished with a 30-minute penalty simply because they didn’t meet someone’s unrealistic standards. This kind of experience drives players away—both new and returning ones.

The Impact on Player Experience

This situation has profoundly affected my enjoyment of the game.

  • As a positive player and guild leader, I always try to foster an inclusive and supportive environment. Yet, this toxic behavior has left me feeling discouraged and even considering quitting altogether.
  • Worse, I’ve spoken to several newer players who’ve had similar experiences and have already quit or are considering it. How can we expect players to stay when they face hostility even in casual, low-stakes content?

Suggestions for Improvement

To address this issue, I’d like to propose some potential solutions:

  1. Transparency in Vote Kick Reasons
  • Allow the kicked player to see the reason for the kick. This would provide clarity and allow Blizzard to monitor abusive patterns.
  1. Reform the Desertion Penalty
  • Being kicked should not apply the same penalty as voluntarily leaving. Separate these two scenarios in the system.
  1. Stricter Review of Vote Kick Patterns
  • Implement automated systems to flag players who abuse vote kicks or frequently initiate unjustified votes.
  1. Encourage a More Supportive Community
  • Leveling dungeons should be a safe space for learning, not a competitive environment where only experienced players thrive. Consider in-game prompts or rewards for patience and helpfulness in group content.

Final Thoughts

This issue reflects a growing toxicity within the community that needs to be addressed. Players abusing the system create a hostile environment, and Blizzard’s current mechanics unintentionally punish the victims rather than the perpetrators.

If this trend continues unchecked, I fear more players—myself included—will stop playing altogether. Blizzard, I urge you to take these concerns seriously. We need changes to protect players from unnecessary frustration and to foster a more welcoming and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I hope the community and Blizzard moderators can work together to resolve this issue.

Sincerely,
[JavyWorld]

Do you have any recordings of the kicks you’re experiencing? I tank 99% of the time so I rarely experience any of this.

I feel like the 30 minute penalty is a little silly myself but goodness gracious. Do we really need another “unique” thread on this when there are already like, two hot topics for it on the front page?

Yes, He has the right to create as many threads as he wants to.

People can kick you for any reason at all, there is no issue.

Actually, according to the GMs toxicity is against ToS.

Kicking someone for no reason is toxicity.

OP, you should video record the problems you’re having and post this online; it would probably help your case.

I really don’t understand how this topic is even a topic.

If people don’t want to play with you they don’t have to. That’s something you should be taught as a small child.

Ive rarely seen vote kicks initiated in my many years of random ques. This makes me think the people spamming this non issue topic are beyond terrible in many ways and that’s why they are supposedly constantly being kicked.

I’ve leveled 4 characters to 80 from various levels through timewalking dungeons this expansion. Dozens upon dozens of dungeons. I’ve been kicked zero times, and the only kicks I’ve seen have been due to someone going afk and not coming back.

If you’re getting kicked repeatedly, it’s for a good reason.

The vote kick abuse is a player caused issue.

It was actually a good system with how it worked way back in the day, but players being players ruined that for us. It used to be to where if you removed someone, I don’t remember if they had a long deserter debuff or not, been such a long time.

But I do recall tanks holding groups hostages, so really, you just have toxic people to thank for the current system. There is a solution, but again, players would just mess it up, so we’re stuck.

What happens is that it’s hard to record this. Usually, when they start a vote to kick you, you don’t get notified and have no idea until the moment the vote ends, and you’re simply removed from the dungeon. It’s literally like this: (You’re playing calmly, and in a split second, you’re OUT).

The first few times this happened to me, I thought it was a game bug until I started playing with my friend. He was the one who told me, “They’re voting to kick you,” but since he only had one vote, it wasn’t enough to save me—I got kicked anyway!

But because you don’t receive any warning or message, there’s no way to know you’re about to be kicked until it actually happens! By the time it does, you’re left with the 30-minute penalty for being a “deserter.”

So I think it’s hard to “record” this issue. I believe that’s why many people don’t report it on the forums—because they have no way of providing “physical” evidence. However, I’m sure this has happened to more than one player. Even if there aren’t any “proofs,” shouldn’t the experiences of many players be enough as “evidence”? Don’t you think?

No it isn’t. If the other 4 people decide they don’t want to play with that person, for literally whatever reason, that’s their prerogative.

Ive seen Tich players kicked who werent doing anything wrong before, for sure.

yup…Ive seen a kick fail and clearly the kicker was on a rampage just trying to kick anyone when it did fail. Pretty juvenile.

oh…youre that guy doing that…I think I voted Yes that time lol

they’ll tell you jokingly the content is trivial nothing while theyre kicking you for nothing you did wrong lol

Yup…seen a ton of those. Couldnt figure it out. Someone in here explained it a while back but I forgot what the reasoning was.

personally, Ithink the system should flag players who initiate X or more kicks in X timeframe. If it seems they are using the kick to disrupt game play for others a 30 day vacation each offense.

remove it timeout entirely, it serves no purpose. The true troll will just swap alts and keep trolling.
The only persons affected by the timeout are innocent players who got kicked for no reason and just want to play the game.

Then there’s a contradiction in your interpretation of the TOS and what the GMs say, which is “the vote kick allows you to be kicked for any reason, including no reason at all.” The devs have made it quite clear that pre-made groups are a players responsibility and they they’re not getting involved other than to encourage players to form groups with friends & guild-mates as it is, after all, a “social aspect” of an MMO.

Now “serial” leavers of M+ keys have been separately called out and the devs are taking action against those that leave hundreds of keys a day (or thousands in the course of a week or two). Intentionally bricking someone’s key by leaving early in the run is the kind of toxicity that is against ToS and the devs have said they’re doing something about that specific case. Vote kicks though? Nah… you’re on your own if you insist on PUGing.

i can count on one hand the number of groups i’ve been kicked from in a decade of playing. people who are being kicked multiple times per week are absolutely doing something really, really wrong.

Here we are, didnt even take 10 posts in responses for the “helpful” community to express their true rotten to the core self.

same.
Conversely, they were kicking OTHER players so much for nothing that I got tired of it and quit healing it was that annoying.
I dread even clicking the stupid button to join LFG anymore over the rancid behavior.

What determines a just vs an unjust vote kick?

This is not being fired from a job. This is not a ban. This is not even like being kicked from private property.

This is like being asked to leave the basketball court because the majority decided you don’t fit the group playing.

No it is not thread.
There is rampant issue with unjustified kicks which must be addressed.
Opinion of grey parsing mythic raiding wannabies should be discounted.
