Of course, but the Death Knights existence shouldn’t exclude the existence of the necromancer. A Death Knight is to the Necromancer, what the Paladin is to the priest. Or do you suggest that priests shouldn’t exist because Paladins are a thing?
No. Because a Paladin and a Priest are very very different.
Mind you, A Paladin IS a Priest. But they are specifically a priest of the Light.
The Paladin’s abilites are based off the Paladin hero unit from Warcraft 3.
Meanwhile, A Priest can be a priest of anything, and is also able to use Shadow magic.
In fact, the Priest takes a lot of inspiration from the Dark Ranger hero unit. Since some of priests biggest abilities like Mind control and Silence come from the Dark ranger. Priest also has thematic inspiration from Priestess of the Moon.
A Death Knight on the other hand is the Hero unit most well known for Necromancy. They raise and control the dead.
A Necromancer, wouldn’t be interesting, because a Death Knight is literally just a better Necromancer.
Necromancer and Death Knight both have exactly the same theme behind them.
Instead, we could get something cool, and unique, that DOESN’T step all over existing classes. Something like Tinker.
Demonology questline, demonology questline… please blizzard dont rob warlocks anymore.
I think you fail to see how exactly alike the necromancer and the priest really are in comparison to their warrior like counter parts. The Paladins are imbued with the light this is why they are holy no matter what. Death Knights are also imbued with death, infact they are all already dead. Fallen heroes into undeath. While the priests and the necromancers simply harness that power of undeath or the light allowing them to manipulate it at their own will instead of being at it’s mercy. The tinkerer rather you want to admit it or not still steps on the toes of the engineers. There would be no reason for the profession to even exist if tinkerers are a thing. Further stripping professions down isn’t the answer, not now when they are finally starting to build them up again.
A warlock questline with few basic cosmetic changes really wouldn’t quite work. There would need to be some additional design changes. Although I suppose a fourth spec would work. But honestly they are more kin to the mages then warlocks atleast lore wise. They are outcasts of the kirin tor.
A new class which could allow both blood mages, and necromancer be a thing would be kind of cool though. Both these was outcasted from the Kirin Tor, and the blood mage has seen a few quest lines.
instead of imps they summon skeletal mages? Instead of Felguard it is an Undead brute? Call Dreadstalkers is Call Skeletal warriors? Summon Demonic Tyrant is Summon Lich… it really isnt that difficult.
The entire imp system just doesn’t mesh well. The design philosphy of demonology is unique and works well for them but it would be weird on a necromancer. Not to mention some of the other baseline warlock skills.
And the Succubus would work how? What skeletial or zombie minion is going to be sexy and make people fall inlove with it.
And what are you on about with summoning lichs… Those are just extra powerful necromancers. Ones that have given up their life in service to power and finding the secrets to immortality.
Do you really wanna tell me that Death Knights dont harness the power of undeath? they do. Constantly.
Death Knights ARE Necromancers. They use Necromancy to fight.
Yeah because Death Knights totally meant we had to remove enchanters
This is just Wrong. Engineering makes Repair vendors, Engineering makes portable transmog. Engineers make mount equipment.
It actually fits perfectly… constantly summoning an army of skeletal mages and imploding them on your enemies?
They don’t harness the power of undeath, they are undeath. It’s like Paladins they don’t harness the power of the light they are the light. That is why undead can’t be paladins.
/Showtooltip Army of the Dead.
You’re wrong.
/Showtooltip Holy Light
Again… you are just ridiculous.
Let me make this really REALLY Simple.
Paladins, have all of the Paladin abilities from Warcraft 3.
Shamans have all of the Shaman abilities from Warcraft 3.
Death Knights, have all of the Necromancer abilities from Warcraft 3.
But Tinkers?
There isn’t class with all of the Tinker abilities from Warcraft 3.
And I already showed you, the death knight doesn’t have all the Necromancer skills either. Plug your ears if you want.
Deathknights blue eyes are supposed to be more green tbh but they literally are beings infused by death magic.
I see Raise Dead. I see Unholy Frenzy.
Sooo. I see all of Necromancers abilities
They just have a Resource more interesting than Mana.
Sorry you don’t appreciate that blizzard gave you Necromancers but cooler.
… Because they don’t have mana? That’s what you’re clinging to?
What a hill to die on.
Runic power is not better then mana. It’s extremely limiting and doesn’t really allow you to do the full necromancer thing. It forces you into a hybrid warrior trope.
You literally have an ability that turns spent runes into skeletons.
Resorces make classes interesting. You just wanna hit buttons with no cost? WoW isn’t for you
Death knights and Pandaren monk in WC3 had mana… he’s holding on to mana passive like it wasnt simply the resource used in that game.
I can’t think of single class that actually uses their mana for DPS. Except arcane mage
