I always thought the overlap would be Unholy DK and necromancer, since they both involve magic and raising the dead. Not seeing the overlap with warlock. That overlap was DH, which is why some lock abilities were moved to DH like Metamorphisis.
The problem is that a Necromancer is going to be doing the exact same thing a Warlock is doing now. Simply swap demons for undead.

Mechanically the overlap is Warlocks. Thematically the overlap is Death Knights.
I guess, if by overlap mechanically you simply mean casting with a pet out. If thatâs the case, then hunter is also an overlap with ranged and pets. Frost mage could fit that boat too, water pet.

No, I mean a dark magic caster that summons an army of vile minions, and disabling your target with DoT spells and curses.
Thatâs what traditional Necromancers do. Which is why Blizzard made their necromancer into Death Knights.
Yeah, thatâs why I usually start this argument by saying we already have Unholy DK. Theyâre technically necromancers, except theyâre battle mages instead of casters.

1: LichBorne/Domination
Dps, pet class, caster dps.
Quirks and abilities
Bone Bolt, a casted physical damage ability
Empowered, bonebolt hits additional damage in a cone on the other side of the the target
Soul Flay (Curse)
abilities that look straight out of shadowlands and maldraxxus
lich form, a move similar to reckless or avatar you transform into a lich giving you access to frozen armor, frozen bone bot
aura of death, slowly sap the life of all targets in X radius and heal for 10% of the damage dealt is active as an aura.
Use Domination to have your own thrall it can be a fresh corpse or even other player and it keeps the model it serves until death
The mindless thrall then can be used to do other things like, Frosty Explosion
Destroy the thrall causing an explosion of frost to deal X frost damage and slow enemies
Giants hand (stun) A massive skeletal hand reaches out of the ground and graps the enemies locking them in place for X time.

Dust to Dust: Even when dead you can still cast resurrect on your allies and on yourself?
Graveyard shuffle/grave network: teleport to graveyards
Shadow of death (cheat death, 10m cooldown) an ability that would other wise kill you sends you to the shadowrealm for 3 seconds instead
Graveyard shift: Summon the soul of a hero, the ghost will grant you a buff and or fight for you.
