The first step was goggles… the next step was profession equipment… the final step is puberty where it develops into a full-fledged class
Machine…speaker? Sorry but thats the dumbest thing Ive ever heard. Tinker = engineering.
I cast my vote for just having the class be named Artificer and having Tinkerer be a spec within it.
Since a lot of WoW classes are just ripped off DnD anyway.
We’ll be seeing a lot of them in the next expansion.
“Machine Speakers – These Earthen have strayed from the Edicts in practice but now with respect to their overall obligation to repair the Titan works. They have had limited contact with surface dwellers. Their homes are built around the vast industrial projects under the surface.”
I agree about the name being … silly but I guess it fits.
We’ve come a long ways from just simple fantasy magic and swords huh? Now were all about sentient robots.
I just want a Gnome with a big death machine.
I only mentioned it mainly because it’s new, expansion-relevant, and one more viable thread to tie the class into the world a bit better. (I know you know this already, but just in case anyone else reads it lol). In my OP, that first little chunk of text is pretty much me briefly justifying all of the races that logistically would be able to be the class, and their already in-game roots that would allow them to do so.
We’ve also come a long ways from the sentient robots too! WoW’s had machines, drones, gizmos, turrets, and modern-day adjacent vehicle technology since Warcraft 3, friend! This is a class over 2 decades in the making, with an ever-growing catalogue of roots evident in the game itself.
I don’t see anything wrong with having the Tinker, but I think if it has a tank spec, it should be a shield-based melee tank (and when I say shields, I mean in the vein of how Disc ‘heals’ with shields and DPS). This shield generator would also be their resource, so they’d constantly charge and spend while making sure they have enough to stay upright after some hits. A Mech Suit wouldn’t be appropriate for full-time wearing, but could work in the same vein as how Paladins get the steed to show up now and again.
Since every class can learn Engineering, every race should be capable of being a Tinker.
i think the spec names should be even sillier. we need names like Whirligig-master, Sprocket Whisperer, Master of Goofy Gadgets, etc.
Oh yeah, I totally got it. I enjoyed reading your OP. I get what Blizz is going for with Machine Speaker. It’s like the Blackfingers of the Mad Max universe. They view these machines almost religiously. It’s a fun concept and I look forward to the content.
Love this idea SO much.
I feel like their Hero Specs would be fantastic if one leaned into the Gnome fantasy (like you’re writing), one leaned into the Titan Machinery fantasy, and the 3rd leaned into the Goblin fantasy. I feel like the Goblins and Gnomes are the OG’s, so a hero spec for both would be great, and the Titan angle would be perfect for those who would want Tinker to feel a bit more “magic-y”.
I’ll shoot my shot! (borrowing OP’s 3 specs just because I’m not creative enough to make up my own)
Explosions 101 (Goblin-themed Hero Spec): Artillery & Gearmaster
Whirligig-Master (Gnome-themed Heroc Spec): Gearmaster & Pilot
Machinespeaker (Titan-themed Hero Spec): Artillery & Pilot
My main is a Mechagnome Survival Hunter with a Mechanical Pet. It’s the sad existence I have to live until we get the real thing
Inspiration for Tinker energy shield.
Can’t find a good image of it as I can’t recall the other names this goes by. But many MoP NPC’s use this blue energy shield which would be a perfect asset to incorporate into the Tinker Robotic-Mechanical-Suit (R.M.S) shield system.
I like the idea but I think instead of a melee DPS it should be a healer.
- Support / Ranged DPS
- Healer
- Tank
Adding another healer, tank, and support would fill more roles that are heavily lacking in the game. Healers are seen as a role that is under supplied atm, tanks are in a similar state but not as healing currently. Then the support role is just something that needs to be expanded overall beyond just Augmentation Evoker. I think there are a few specs that should/could be reworked to add more support as well.
- Disc Priest
- Survival Hunter
- Balance Druid
- Outlaw Rogue
I think all 4 of these specs could be reworked to support role and provide more utility for the game. We also get a nice break up of only ranged as a support with Outlaw and Survival being melee support.
I’m open to anything for a 3rd spec tbh. For me personally, the tank exo suit fantasy and the torbjorn/guild wars 2 engineer ranged dps specs are the two most important to me
I actually wouldn’t mind a “Tinker” class if it was based on Titan tech. My main problem with Tinker idea’s has always been I simply dislike the steampunk vibe and don’t want to see it. Titanic magic and powers would definitely be welcome however.
Something tells me if we’re gonna see it, it’ll probably be for The Last Titan… going back to Ulduar… meddling with the Titan’s immense networks of machines… just a hunch. Blizz know the demand, now it’s a matter of acting upon it.
I sure hope we get it though, it feels like the last class left to happen that doesn’t share any overlap with other existing classes. Blademaster, Dark Ranger, Shadow Hunter, Necromancer, Runemaster, and even Bard all seem like they could be Hero specs… but Tinker despite fitting so well into Warcraft mythos (evidently), doesn’t fit into any existing class fantasy. It deserves and needs its own!
Here here! I’d gladly take it sooner but beggars can’t be choosers! lol
So did Demon Hunter Fans at one point.
If any expansion we could see the Tinker added it will be The Last Titan, returning to Ulduar where Mimiron is. Perfect for a tech based class
Feel like there’s enough time too that this can be worked into the story well and truly by then. Would truly be magical to see it happen
I don’t want tinker cause i know blizzard is cowards and won’t make it goblin/ Gnome tinkering
They’ll make it some lame magic stuff
