Speaking for myself, my Tinker idea post #7 goes into a great deal many areas that go well far beyond anything that the profession “Engineering” would ever have a chance to mimic.
So I flat out refute and disagree and challenge your claim.
This is the problem ya’ll need to solve but won’t because you can’t: tinkerer as a class would just be an engineer, that is the class fantasy in its entirety - because if it isn’t, then you need to explain what a tinkerer is without ever engaging in engineering
This. This guy single handedly dismantles your entire custom-class arguing points.
I only have this toon, and only post as this character.
Whatever you can “see” is clearly deluded by your tumblr fan-fic alt-art commissions you’ve paid for off twitter for classes you’ve created “that’ll totally be great bro just trust me bro this one mob one time in a corner someone can do it. player’s can’t, never could, never had any access or capability… but bro this one mob has it in his name so that’s enough”
You’re a goob. Ignoring you, because you went to the blatant-troll response of “SOMEONE ELSE DOESN’T LIKE MY GOOFY FAN-FICS? MUST BE A TROLL/SOCK PUPPET/blah blah” response.
I hope you find happiness in whatever you pursue, because it wont be given to you via your custom class fantasy delusions.
Shadybolt (you) is replying to me in possessive first person in response to comments I made to you, Semicasual. So either they’re schizophrenic and support your awful takes, or it’s literally just you. In this case, I think I’ll go with occam’s razor. Exposed.
Engineering is a crafting profession. A tinker uses gadgets & stuff as his main fighting tools.
Yes they have interest in engineering then what? Doesn’t mean they can’t take another profession. It’s like saying a warrior can’t be a tailor because it implies that he has no interest in weaponry.
Look, I understand that you may not like the idea, but that kind of argumentation doesn’t make sense to me. Engineering and tinkers can co-exist without any overlap since they don’t serve the same purpose in game - one is a crafting profession, the other a class that provides gameplay.
And tinkers have deep roots in the Warcraft universe (including WoW). It’s not a fantasy that was made out of thin air like evoker.
Speaking of, if Order Halls ever come back in a 2.0 fashion, god I would love to see the Corridors of Ingenuity in Ulduar become the Tinker’s Order Hall. Mimiron is the cornerstone of the entire concept really
I’ve often wondered how their Order Hall would look if they brought them back. I ended up imagining a large airship, filled with members of Gob Squad, Gazlowe’s Greasemonkeys, G.E.A.R. and Razak’s Roughriders all in an uneasy alliance. The airship filled with all sorts of mechs, flying vehicles and high-tech gadgets. There’s rotating hazard lights all over and the sound of mechs and aircraft taking off in the background. And missions … missions would be taken from a ready room, like the kind for pilots on aircraft carriers.
Just imagine how fun those quests would be! Imagine all the slightly hostile banter between the Goblins and Gnomes. Haha fantastic!
Can’t believe I didn’t mention this when I compared with Cad Bane…
But Rocket the Raccoon from Guardians of the Galaxy is the perfect fit for the Tinker fantasy that I would envision.
At least for my Technican ranged spec where your ranged weapon gets automatically converted into a beam weapon fueled/fires off lightning nature damage from its auto shots alongside the other aspects of cybernetics, bombs, constructs and a gadget filled tech back pack.
I can totally see someone playing a Vulpera Tinker and naming it Rocket lol.
A lot of opitions tbh! For a time I thought that King Mechagon’s throne room would become the future class Order Hall by virtue that the horde and alliance worked together to reclaim it (even if Mechagnomes are Alliance), but you could do so many different things! I feel like something in Ulduar seems the most -agnostic- and accommodates all of the different tinker “styles” that each race brings, but at the same time when you’re talking about Tinkers, something as silly as a “New New Tinkertown” could be on the cards- a floating base (same size as the skybreaker) made by all of Azeroth’s engineers and mechanics as their own ultra exclusive cool kids club LOL
At this point it feels like there’s a glaring lack of representation, especially considering we’re working with more and more Titan tech and Azerite… you don’t think there’d be aspiring Tinkers looking to make a name for themselves/contribute to the aid of Azeroth?!? Simply outrageous.
You know… I’ve seen so many people say that only Goblin and Gnome could or should be tinkers- but this is probably the best (and most simple) explanation I’ve seen as to why so many more races could (and should) be them.
The sheer potential of this idea is insanely cool. The 10.2 Druid Boomy customization flat-out proves it. Adding to this idea a little, I think it would be really neat if on top of the race-unique Suit/Turret/Hammer/Gun/Backpack appearances, there were also race-agnostic appearances, also just like what the druid forms have.
Adding to this as well, what if the Turret, Gun, and Wrench were actually raid drop weapons? Even though Tinkers would be the only ones able to use them (minus gun), it would kind of be like the Warglaives. That way, there would be new appearances to match the latest Tinker class tier sets each raid.
Machinespeaker could be a hero spec leaning into a Tinker taking interest in the tech of the titans.
On races, the only reason I could see limitations has nothing to do with lore, but with art assets. I feel like Tinkers should have the shaman/druid treatment with all their gadgets (turrets, mechs, ect’) being aesthetically appropriate for their race, which could take time.
It was the blizzcon hype, I swear! To me, I saw that and I was like “that’s probably the most magically-grounded way I’ve seen that archetype described so far”. I am very much on team Tinker though, but I’ll take any name at this point- it’s the gameplay I care most about.
Potentially. Based off of the races that I think would fit the class that I mentioned at the top, I think the aesthetics that the turrets, exo-suits, backpacks, wrench/hammers, etc could lean into would be:
Goblin: Goblin Shredders (scrappy & junky)
Gnome: Gnomeregan Mechs (quirky but well built)
Dwarf: Titan Stone Golems (Seen in most Uld- titan facilities)
Dark Iron Dwarf: Blackrock Golems (Like Omnotron Defense System)
Mechagnome: Mechagon Robots (clean and refined, potential rust)
Humans: Skybreaker (Lots of Wood, Gold trimming, Eagles, and Lions)
Draenei: Draenor Vigilants & Arkonite Crystals
Undead: Gothic/Plague-punk Aesthetic (like their laboratories/heritage sets, etc)
Earthen: Azeroth-Titan Machinery (Like Dwarf, but more ancient + azerite glow)
For clarification of the above (tried to limit each to one line), I imagine each Race’s exo-suit to sport that design language and aesthetic theme, and draw heavy inspiration from those descriptions. and the rest of their turrets, tools, and such as well.
