Folks don’t seem to understand - the current crop of devs will see how much they are angering players with these stupid, undocumented (of course) changes, and will now nerf TWW dungeon mob XP down to TW levels, thinking that this will solve the problem. I truly miss the days when we at least had devs that played WoW.
If they do that, I will quit. I had 64 max level toons cause I found Dragonflight boring. I hate “seasonal” content. I get AoTC & KSM and then I don’t do “seasonal” content anymore, I level alts. BFA was the expansion I played the least, while the raids were great, it wasn’t friendly to alts so I just didn’t play. And if they make leveling a grind, yep, good-bye
It will make level 10 twinks the most powerful characters in timewalking, and it will ruin th game for anyone who is enough of a no-lifer to make a timewalking set for their max level character(s) but not enough of a no-lifer to make a level 10 twink
Scaling is definitely an issue. Random trash will two-shot non-tanks so you can’t really pull a lot most of the time. Pit of Saron is a prime example. This was always one where you could randomly die. if you weren’t careful but it’s worse now.
Last time I did any kind of analysis or record-keeping on this was the Diablo 4 event (Turbulent Timeways), which was 10.1.7. In TT you got a compounding buff up to 25% bonus XP. With that bonus, from 60-70 it was basically 1 dungeon per level and usually 2 from 67-70.
Now, even with the 25% XP bonus, TW is 2-3 dungeons per level from 70-80.
It’s not useless. It’s half the XP. You kill 100 mobs at 1100xp each and that’s more than the TW queueing bonus. That 110k XP is now like 20k XP. Add 90k bonus and you’re at 110k vs ~150k from a Normal dungeon.
I actually think the prepatch event, once it was fixed not to be once per hour, to be one of the better prepatch events in a long time.
Yep. this was awful. I thought it was a bad idea to split the plyaerbase from the start like this and how it played out was much worse than I anticipated. I’m against Early Access, period.
YMMV but, for me, I hate the underground aesthetic.
There’s another bad aspect to this: the gear from Normal dungeons was insufficient to queue Heroics (after it was increased in week 2). There should be a progression.
False. Please do some actual research and crunch the numbers from the actual XP you receive.
Not all WQs are created equal.
This was a horrendous decision that is going to completely kill an emergent play style that had no impact on the seasonal content of the game.
Mark my words: this is going to be a disaster, for two reasons:
- Low levels, just like in Remix, are going to be completely busted in TW dungeons; which leads to
- The new meta will be XP-locked twinks for TW dungeons. The current system of scaling down to the dungeon’s level was accessible to everyone. This new system won’t be.
This.
TW still give 30k more exp than normal dungeons… If you have th 25% buff it is more than enough to level from 70+ to 80 in a short time.
How about that new stunt of theirs where you can only queue for heroic of dungeons in the mythic rotation rather than how we’ve had it for years before where you could do so for all that expansion’s dungeons. I mean that really killed the desire to run TWW dungeons for me as it’s like they don’t care about anyone but the mythic plus folk and the Esports BS they’re trying to force down our throats. All they care about is money and not a shred of care for the players anymore…
How is this even possible? Is this even healthy?
I actually checked this. Getting 75 xp per mob vs 800 per mob can make a huge difference in how many dungeons a player must run per level. Saving a few dungeons is a big deal.
The completion bonus is larger, but not enough to make up the difference. Normal dungeons take a little more than 2 dungeons per level. Timewalking dungeons took 3+ dungeons per level.
Remix and prepatch were ridiculously easy to level in.
I genuinely enjoyed (and miss) Remix. It was, by far, the best LTM or event that Blizzard has ever done, bar none. And it’s not even close. 10.2 was a genuinely great patch, one of the best, ever. This is why it’s so surprising and disappointing to see how far 11.0 has fallen (IMHO).
Anyway, real speed levellers (ie not me) did 10-70 in under 30 minutes. That required a lot of help and preparation. And this was before the prepatch XP changes too. But I could still easily level 10-70 in a few hours in a very chill way. So I levelled ~39 level 70s in Remix alone.
And this was just with a trial account Holy Priest at 20. A lot of early ones were to farm Bronze because a fresh 70 was the best way to farm Bronze for the first 1-1.5 months of Remix until the Bronze drop rates were greatly boosted.
I created my 70s over a number of realms so I could create as many Evokers as possible because it was a realtively cheap 60. And the prepatch even tallowed you to do 60-70 in ~40 minutes. So I got >40 70s from the prepatch, at least half of which were 60s from being Evokers or just being 60 for other reasons.
All this to say: if you were so inclined, there’s really no reason anyone couldn’t have a full account (65) of 70s by the end of DF. And it didn’t take as long as you might think.
Okay. So…. Where’s the issue? You level from completing the dungeon. Not killing mobs.
If you’re levelling any toons, I want you to try this exercise.
- Write down what your XP is before you queue;
- Queue the dungeon
- Write down what your XP is before you engage the final boss;
- Kill the final boss. You’ll get the queueing bonus too.
- Write down your XP again.
You will find that about half your XP in a normal dungeon comes from just killing the mobs and about half comes from the final bonus.
TW dungeons have a higher end bonus but at 71+ you’ll get less than a bubble of XP.
I didn’t find this. Total XP is roughly the same.
Personally, I don’t have an issue with TW dungeons and normal dungeons being the same xp from 71-80, I think it makes a lot of sense to do that.
The TW dungeon completion bonus is still higher than the bonus for normal dungeons, but overall XP per run is now lower given the reduced XP per mob.
This is a change / nerf as before TWW, TW XP per dungeon run was higher than normal dungeons.
Just another change by Blizzard that suggests their ‘we want to respect player time’ mantra is a lie.
Doubly so since they snuck the change in by stealth nerfing mob XP instead of the nerfing the XP shown in the queue finder - so most players (including a lot in this thread) missed the change.
What level?
Exactly this.
So I just ran 2 dungeons to get some sample numbers. Level 73, full rested XP. No XP buffs like DMF. 25% bonus XP from having 5 80s.
TW Utgarde Keep (bonus from Finder: 97,800)
- Mobs: 10,006
- Bonus: 123,538
- Total: 133,544
TWW Rookery (bonus from Finder: 65,200)
- Mobs: 114,180 (I dinged 74 near the end)
- Bonus: 94,385
- Total: 208,565 (note: this would probably include higher bonus XP because I levelled)
So this is an imperfect comparison but any comparison is going to be imperfect because it depends on what dungeons you get but the TWW dungeon gives 56% more XP because of the mob XP.
So there’s currently ZERO reason to do TW dungeons other than the weeklies. GJ Blizzard.
77-79
Hoping to do more testing on my Monk, currently level 71
The primary reason for badges side from the cheap gear, or the personal preference on mounts, was the ability to catch up rep. Now, rep drops with every kill in these instances. I’ve been leveling my Rogue in them and they are almost revered with all of the Northrend Rep. My main was exalted years ago. I still love the extra xp and rep on alts, but am indifferent with the reduction in badges. Someday they will be one more currency I will just never use.
Didn’t have any issues when I got one to 80 yesterday. Still took 3-4 per level.
they made 8 brand new dungeons, then nixed four of them from the heroic rotation. Brilliant. I would hate to be the person who helped design them, then finding out they were removed essentially from the game once the season started.
Just some quick napkin math at 74 on my evoker as dps:
TWW Dungeons:
113883 enemy exp
66100 bonus exp
3 minutes in queue
15 minute run in CoT
~12000 exp a minute for run time
~10000 exp a minute if we want to include queue timer
TW dungeons:
31059 enemy exp
99150 bonus exp
9 minutes in queue
5 minutes in the dungeon (Forge of Souls, so a smaller one considering)
~26000 exp a minute for run time
~9300 exp a minute for queue timer
Best case scenario, you get Forge of Souls mixed in and you get a quick end bonus. But, the way the numbers look, you’re basically even either way. The Wrath TW stuff just gives an extremely small amount of exp per enemy kill, and makes up for it with the end bonus. If you’re running/queuing at the same speed for both, your EXP amount is basically the same.
This checks out.
This… confuses me. I did my own test and at 73 only got 10k mob XP (Utgarde Keep). Is this correct?
