I know I’m in the minority here, but this is actually kind of heartbreaking. Grinding for a bunch of old gear and abusing stat scaling to blast through Timewalking dungeons was oddly enough, a “core pillar” of gameplay for me in WoW.
I know that sounds crazy, and I know “abusing stat scaling” sounds bad on paper, but for me it was the type of kooky emergent gameplay that kept me coming back to the game. I farmed old raids, maxed-out old professions, completed old quest chains, all so I could have (admittedly stupid) fun doing what would otherwise be a chore.
I’m not upset over the time I spent grinding what is now useless gear, but I regret losing the incentive to grind those old raids, those professions, and those quest lines. I learned a lot about the game and had a lot of fun doing it. It was one of those things that really put the “World” in World of Warcraft for me.
I’m sorry to see it go. I don’t see why being a low level and carrying a dungeon is better than grinding old gear and carrying a dungeon. I don’t understand why you felt the need to homogenize Timewalking into being even more of a chore.
RIP Timewalking 2015-2024

I don’t know but I would wager they are pretty well paid to make dumb decisions.
Tanks are now wondering what happened? Completely unaware of this change and dying pretty quick. Done 2 so far since I saw this change on my levelling toon. It’s not even funny, not even a little bit.
Oh nice, blizzard making sure we stop engaging with the timewalking content by fixing the things people were enjoying about it, this company is SOOO out of touch with the player base it is INSANE.

The Devs are making TW harder. That’s what you love?

I think plenty of people got their enjoyment from tw this way. Building tw sets and doing silly stuff was part of the fun. The gear rewards were mostly useless.
Now it’s just another part of the game I’ll ignore.

100% I loved collecting legendaries and powerful trinkets/weapons and blasting away in them.

It also fit in perfectly with the spirit of the event: use old, outdated legacy gear to be very strong.
This was fun and conferred virtually no advantage in the core gameplay loop of Raiding and M+. But it had to be ruined because Blizz wants everything scaled so they don’t have to put in any effort.

Same, I enjoyed making lists of socketed gear my main and alts. I didn’t even mind hunting down the right zeroth pieces of gear it was kind of fun.
And on top of that it was fun to play with old leggos and other items with effects like cool trinkets, or the valkyr staff from ICC

Hahaha not my blizzard. Needing better gear than the gear you get from the content is the staple of this expansion.

I was someone who was just starting to dabble with that stuff. I was very sad to see them change it.
Like you said. It brought life and meaning into parts of the game that no longer serve any purpose.
Now every item below level 80 is the same. Just a token you exchange for gold at a vendor. Paperweights reminding you of better times.

I went wild with it. Would grind dungeons with a Chromie-Timed alt on a second account and trade myself socketed pieces with the proper ilvl scaling. I leveled a Cataclysm jeweler, a Pandaria Blacksmith/Tailor, Outland Enchanter, all so I could have the BiS gear. I had crazy sets for Warrior, Mage, DH, and really really good sets for basically everything else.
There was an awesome Discord community around Timewalk Twinking too, reading the announcements on it legitimately makes me sad.

blizzard, i say this with with a very serious and deliberate tone
there is somthing seriously wrong with this “reasoning” TWing dungeons should not be harder than a normal dungeon. the loot that drops isnt good. and the end goal is transmogs.
dont pee on my foot and says its raining.
this seems more like another attempt to stretch out retention and play time. people banged out the 5 dungeons weekly too quickly and that was supposed to keep people logging in more often throughout the week ?

I’m sorry about the timing of that. I hope Blizzard eventually reverts the change, but I’m not holding my breath.
At least you got a taste!

Yeah, I know people always say this when they are upset about stuff in the game, but I am legitimately letting my sub expire.
I don’t like the main content enough. I already wasn’t playing a ton, but I did make a point to do Timewalking dungeons every once in a while.

You saw how poorly people reacted to the idea of mobs scaling to ilvl at max level in MoP Remix. Remember the “369 cheese” with people taking off pieces of gear because that was the best way to do content? You reverted that change with all of the backlash, if i remember correctly even blaming it a bug. So why after that would you think that this could possibly be a good idea? Why do you think people would possibly be happy this time about enemies gaining power as the player gets gear? Why not just read the room and leave it alone for now?

uh oh…lol…Ive been mowing down everything in site after realizing a certain character level is seriously over powered in classic runs…guess thats over now
who wants challenge in their timewalking dungeons? and how does making them damage sponges = challenge?
who thought this was a good idea? whoever it was needs to sit in a corner and think about what they have done.
