I want to feel immersed like I’m doing a traditional dungeon crawl like they pitched. I want to feel like I’m cautiously exploring a dangerous tower and a stacking debuff soft timer breaks this immersion. First 10 floors aren’t going to be challenging and a timer doesn’t add a challenge it adds an annoyance. If they want to prevent people waiting for cooldowns add a cooldown limit.
A timer, is not a challenge, when there are specs and roles who can not output as much as others. This game mode was getting nothing but praise from the community until they added an artificial timer to make this Mythic+ Lite.
For example, they could’ve done:
Bonus loot for time completition
Bonus room that’s open for certain amount of time
Limited hero to 1 time use
Made an affix that affects major cooldowns
So much more
Instead, we’re getting some piss poor excuses from the community defending timers, when we already have timed Mythic+. If Mythic+ isn’t something you consider, then all anyone has to do is look at fluxing Visions with Tanks and Healers being shafted for 4 - 7 weeks because they can’t meet the DPS check.
It’s a system and anyone defending is just coming up with excuses out of their tails; because we’ve already seen how garbage timed instances are with Visions. We wanted more content to play around in. Not be timed in. If we wanted timed content, we have Mythic+.
Because the higher floors will likely have better rewards. Better rewards need to be gated by a higher difficulty that takes more skill. It should be that only the best players can get to the top of the tower and earn the best rewards.
It shouldn’t be that anyone can take however long they want to get to the top floor despite how bad, slow, casual they are.
I’d like to point out that this can be seen in different ways.
personally, I feel more immersed knowing that I’m somewhere my character should not be, the jailer does not want me here and will track me down. I don’t see it as a house tour, it is a dangerous place that people shouldn’t linger around.
I believe only the best players should get the best rewards. The better skilled you are the better your rewards. So this way if you aren’t a good player you still get a reward, but you don’t get the best possible reward. That isn’t how a game should work. It should be more punishing the higher up you go in Torghast and take skill and coordination and require you to think fast and/or plan better. You shouldn’t be able to just sit there and chill for 15 hours, but instead it should make you nervous and push you to be your best in the time you have.
You are already going to have a much farther gap in rewards from people who get luckier than others with their anima power selection. Are you going to start complaining that the random roguelike isn’t fair with this same reasoning? People waiting for cooldowns would be a small minority and if they are bad they will die to traps or other mechanics, cooldowns can only get you so far. They could also limit the amount of big cooldowns you can use per floor instead of a timer. Timers don’t make content difficult, dark souls doesn’t have timers and people find that challenging.
The jailer does that already while you are in the maw questing zone with increasing debuffs over time, the tower was supposed to have a different vibe via Blizzard.
