If this is the case then there isn’t much reason for a timer, they could limit long cooldowns per floor to solve the bloodlust issue.
Around 2 weeks ago for that specific example. With the variance in anima powers that critical mass will be different depending on the run. The design should be scaled around a floor to floor increase in difficulty and not stacking timed debuffs. This will add even harder balancing issues especially with varying floor sizes.
A long as its not a (bright white line) slowly going down on the side of my screen to remind me all the time “Move your butt or you gonna DIIIIIIIIIE!!! FASTER FASTER!!!” And stress the hell out of me I do not care what kind of timer they add, a soft timer involving debuff that slowly stack is fine…
in my honest opinion they should give you the choice to have a timer, or a soft timer or nothing and depending on what type of difficulty/options you pick you get more red buff ball or maybe gold rewards at the end or something.
Because people will simply wait for bloodlust when pulls get really hard. Inb4 “but no one will actually do that LOL” because they’re already doing it…
No, the difference is heading out for one 20 minute break vs waiting 10 mins between each pull to complete the floor in 4 hours.
I personally don’t care, I don’t think I’ll be doing Torghast much outside the first few weeks except when I need for leggos… I’m just explaining that it’s not the end of the world that Blizz is adding a soft timer. People can still wait 10 mins per pull… There’s just a risk to doing so now, which I think is good design.
I think its bad design instead of punishing those who are slow or want to wait out CDs they could incentive those who are fast instead. Give people some mats or buff items or maybe some extra gold. Like how there is a % reward when you have warmode on that doesnt apply to gear.
If you don’t care why are you going against people who do care and were looking forward to this feature? There was already timed content with islands, m+, and visions wouldn’t it be fair to let players looking for non-timed scaling solo-5 man content to have one thing they can enjoy? People are telling you they don’t find it to be a fun design and it’s only in there to stop bloodlust and cooldowns which makes it not a very good design. Other games don’t use timers because they aren’t good design, WoW uses them to stop lust.
Dark Souls for instance has limited uses on powerful spells, WoW could do the same with bloodlust they should just try it out.
It’s almost like they want me not to care about content. I’ll try it, don’t get me wrong, but if it’s a poopshow like visions seem to be on every non-hunter character I play, I’ll just find other stuff to do.
Timers pretty much eliminate my ability to do things at my own pace, which is pretty much one of the biggest draws (for me) to this type of game. Having the game set pace for you feels foreign and weird. I avoid mythic dungeons even though I’m sure I could do them because I don’t want to play under a timer. If I enjoyed being on a continuous gogogo tangent I’d be playing path of exile with my tryhard friends. Them trying to “rush” everything I did while I learned absolutely nothing about the game in the process drove me away quickly. I’m a stop-and-smell-the-roses type, I don’t like being rushed in anything I do, certainly not my games.
TL;DR: If it’s not a dungeon or raid and I can’t alt-tab at will, something is wrong.
It feels like shadowlands may be rushed if they are resorting to slapping a timer on torghast now.
BFA wasn’t originally supposed to be out for a while and all of a sudden they change course swiftly with moving up the deadline for expansion release.
It is possible that something similar is happening right now.
It is projected that shadowlands releases in Q4 of 2020 but it appears they might be pushing for a Q3 release date based on how the PVP season ends as well as the legendary cloak grind.
How do you know it’s not fun though, you haven’t stepped in Torghast yet? It could be hilarious getting the damage taken debuff and getting one tapped by a mob.
I can already see the shenanigans me and the boys will get up to haha, taunting mobs off each other and kiting for dear life trying to get it down… Seems fun to me in a reasonable way that just doesn’t allow you to be on a floor for several hours.
You can still look forward to the feature. I doubt it will affect you in any way. If you notice the timer below floor 80-90 I will be extremely shocked. And floor 80-90 should take you 4-5 hours to get to anyway.
If they did this it would just have the same people frothing at the mouth saying this was just a reverse timer. Not much Blizz can do to please everyone. There’s several threads with half for timers and half for no timers. I think what they’re doing is a decent compromise
A lot of us do not like timers, and never will. For me personally, it completely takes away from the atmosphere of a mmo. It feels more like a timed sonic the hedgehog run.
A bunch of stubborn morons coming in and telling us how to play or enjoy the game is not going to change that. You need to shut up and accept that. Your stupid advice because you are annoyed people don’t like they way you play, just makes us more annoyed.
Personally I’m waiting to see if the timer feels bad, or if it actually makes things more interesting.
I do agree an MMO probably should be enjoyed at a persons own pace, that’s basically the entire point of an MMO. But, I don’t know how the timer will impact the dungeon overall.
So, than what kind of compromise would you have Blizzard implement seeing as how they Can’t please everyone. I mean, “a bunch of stubborn morons telling everyone how to play” seems to work both ways here.
Like having a conversation in person with someone yelling “we want it our way damn the people who want it their way”, mentality.
Anyways, I look forward to being able to try it out and see for myself how it all plays out if I like it or not. Since I don’t have Alpha testing I have to wait and see. Maybe I’ll get into Beta again and be able to try it out.
This also reminds me so much of
"The Palace of the Dead is an ever-changing dungeon whose architecture is never quite the same each time players enter to explore its depths. All players will begin at level one, and only by fighting the enemies within will they be able to gain the strength and experience needed to explore its shadowy depths.
Players who choose to leave and return later can continue playing from where they last saved. We challenge all who enter to make it to the last floor!"
Loved running palace and look forward to trying out Torghast in Shadowlands.
