im sry, bfa prepatch
Ah, gotcha. In that case, you should know that the Blood Elf racial was an AoE silence all the way from TBC until it was completely reworked in BfA into an AoE purge.
Funny enough, the reasons for its rework were very similar to why people are asking for Shadowmeld to be nerfed now—because it was providing too much utility and had a major impact in both PvE and PvP.
i think people actually cared a lot more about pvp back then as well. at the end of the day, this is where i am coming from. i dont like pve nerfs. i didnt like them when people were crying for vdh to be nerfed at the end of dragonflight. reason being, i heal. players currently do not have enough tools at their disposal to deal with the nonsense direction the game has been heading for the past two expansions. there are two classes that can remove bleeds reliably from others, and one of them is like a 5 minute cd depending on talent choice. the other would be evokers, and none of them know how to play the game until you get up to title level keys. they dont even know they can remove bleeds. they dont even know when players have bleeds. they probably dont even have party frames next to their characters.
in dragonflight, in the fall dungeon, the third boss in the dungeon had that blight mechanic that was egregiously overtuned. it could be feigned, and it could be melded. most people that were nightelf or hunter didnt even have the key bound, but at least i could use it to make the game a little smoother for myself.
If Shadowmeld were only overpowered in PvP, the call for nerfs would likely be PvP-specific. You might not be aware since you’re a relatively new player, but Blizzard has long been able to adjust abilities separately for PvP, whether that means reducing their effectiveness or altering how they function in combat.
If something is broken in PvP, they can easily make it apply a weaker or different effect when used in PvP combat.
Personally, I’d even be fine with a PvP-only nerf, but looking at M+ representation—which some people here just want to ignore—it’s clear that Shadowmeld is strong in PvE as well.
Funny I went Worgen and Dracthyr I’ve made a dwarf only to get the achievement then deleted the character. Play what you want to play this forced to play X race cause Racial ability is all made up. Ask Brewa they are miserable cause according to them they are forced to play dwarf. But it’s only in there mind no one is holding a gun to their head and demanding they play Dwarf.
PS. We Worgen are still waiting for the racial revamp every other core race on the game got. The only racial thing we have gotten is the Darkflight un-nerf so it is back to what it was at the start of Cataclysm with a smaller cooldown. Aka it stacks with other movement buffs so my Rouge can move at 140%. Maybe that’s why I couldn’t care about racials as Worgen have gotten screwed out of the revamp every other core race got.
Huh? Not every core race got a racial revamp—there are still plenty that haven’t been touched. At least Worgen got something with the Darkflight un-nerf. Meanwhile, my Troll and Blood Elf are still waiting on racial changes.
Man, I’d be happy with just receiving the un-nerfed version of these racials. Troll’s Berserking has only been nerfed over the years, and Blood Elf’s racial was completely reworked from an AoE silence to a purge.
Back at the start of Legion every core race got a racial revamp. Even goblins but Worgen didn’t get anything cause it was still the old Worgen model and our playerbase hated the model and we really didnt have a good number of people playing the race. But that was on Blizzard for making the model so bad. So ya we are still the only Core race to never get a racial revamp.
Do you have a link to this? Because from what I remember, the only universal change was to core passive stat bonuses, which happened due to the removal of secondary stats like Multistrike after WoD. I don’t recall every single race getting an update to their core racial abilities.
Some racials were even nerfed around that time, like Troll’s Berserking or Human’s Every Man for Himself (changed to stuns from ALL CCs and shared trinket CD)
Thought trolls were swapped to pure haste for Zerking at that time if I remember. It used to be casting, melee and ranged attacks speed.
Troll’s Berserking was changed to pure Haste at the end of Cataclysm, but it’s been nerfed multiple times since then, dropping from 20% to 10%. In Legion, it remained at 15% before eventually being reduced again.
Human’s racial was significantly nerfed, limiting it to only removing stuns. Worgen, on the other hand, didn’t receive much change at all—you’re right about that. But honestly, I’d say it’s better to be left mostly untouched than to get nerfed like some of these other racials.
If we had a good racial I would agree. Back at the start of Cata we had 1% dmg rather than 1% crit. Now that was a good racial but like most things in Cata it was changed at the last min and never touched again.
the solution to nerfing meld for both pvp and pve is to simply make it not drop combat and only act as a way to immune a cast/instance of damage on the player. it’ll still be very good, but no longer mandatory for healers in arena to get drinks.
also won’t be mandatory in keys to do skips.
^ That is exactly how Shadowmeld should work. It would basically act as a racial “phase shift” ie the priest honor talent. Dropping combat is way too strong in all forms of content. It would also still be really good without dropping combat as well lol.
Its kind of insane that we have something like Taurens which have 2% increased crit dam/healing, war stomp, 1% nature resistance and Stam increase while nelves have shadowmeld, haste/crit on rotation, nature resistance and melee/ranged dodge chance increase by 2% and perma move speed increase by 2%. Not sure how that is even remotely comparable.
On that subject I think tauren could use a slight buff, they barely provide a dps increase in comparison to other races like dwarves or orc/troll etc and they are also worse defensively lol. Maybe give them a stat increase somewhere like mastery or something, or to further the defensiveness/tankiness of the tauren racials add armor to Endurance.
2% crit damage isn’t underpowered at all. and its funny that you mention dwarves, who also have the racial of 2% crit damage.
It is far less of a dps increase than any of the other racials, that is objectively true, not even close really. Its also a lesser increase than just straight stats in most cases, there is plenty of math done on all of the racials.
This isn’t close to true even for races that don’t care about crit. Even for shadow priest, which is the worst performer for tauren, it still beats out Pandaren, Earthen, Undead, Vulpera, and Lightforged.
And then for multiple classes, tauren is actually the best racial or top 3.
Do you notice what the difference is between those races and what I was talking about? I was talking about stat racials, or at least thats what I was trying to point out, not actually every race in the game because the ones you pointed out do not have stat racials, which is why tauren can come out ahead of those.
It is worse than every stat racial in the game, and again on top of that tauren has less defensive talents than other races that also provide better dps increases. IE dwarf/dark iron dwarf/night elf/human/draenei/etc. And yes, I mentioned dwarves who have that racial, but they also have Stoneform, one of the best defensive racials in the game, not sure why you would look past that lol.
Also linking bloodmallet is not good, you can ask any theorycrafter you’d like about why it is not actually a good site for data but regardless, as I was saying, it is worse both defensively and offensively than the races I listed above because it is far less of a dps increase than other racials specifically stat racials, meant to point that out.
To be clear most of this is very small aside from Shadowmeld/Stoneform/Fireblood.
Because this is your statement to scope in what we’re looking at.
Which is objectively false for certain specs.
I mean purposefully cutting out context is a bit ridiculous. I said specifically stat racials in that same sentence which you left out, and that is objectively true, which is why the races you linked being worse than tauren are the only ones in the game that do not have stat racials or insanely good defensive racials ie stoneform/fireblood.
Pandaren and earthen are both basically stat racials with earthen being the worse of the 2. And I linked the spec that tauren performs the worst at.
The defensive context doesn’t matter when looking at raw throughput potential.
