Time to break the Auction house addons and Limit the API

Here’s a description from their own addon, with some bits highlighted for clarity:

Description

TradeSkillMaster (TSM) is an addon designed to help both casual gold makers as well as experienced goblins streamline their gold-making processes. TSM’s features include everything from improving the native crafting and auctioning experiences to helping you gather needed materials and sniping that low-hanging auction house fruit!

  1. It’s a service issue.
  2. The auction house has throttles.

They need to reoptimize the code. This isn’t a quick fix. So they are going to allocate more hardware to handle the service needs of the players.

The AH worked absolutely flawlessly for me outside of peak hours.

Just more people who have no clue how the AH nor TSM work trying to wrongly conflate their personal issues into everyone’s problem.

I agree 100%

If it is an addon that allows people to do this, that addon should be broken. And I say this as someone who normally is a big proponent of addons.

And it doesn’t do that.

Hi. I’ve worked in IT support and data infrastructure for half a decade now. The inflated database is the ultimate source of the issue, but only because it multiplies the strain the database server gets put on each time a scan or search is performed.

If you don’t have the TSM desktop app, it still needs to collect the data, and it will accomplish this through an AH scan. Same for Auctioneer, or any of the other auctioning addons that don’t use the API call. Even if we take for granted that they’re using API data rather than a manual scan, which is far from guaranteed, the addons are still doing snipe scans to auto buy anything under a given threshhold, which, when spread across even a fraction of the 260k users who’ve downloaded TSM, means that there is basically 0 chance for a human to be able to reliably grab things. I’ve attempted repeatedly to just type in the amount of a material I need after going into the AH interface only to be told that the listings are already gone, even though I was letting the AH itself tell me how much it was going to cost me and literally just typed in 10 and clicked ‘buy’.

And that’s ignoring the trolls putting materials up for 1s to try to catch someone trying to sell their own products for market prices in a trap.

Took me forever to buy just 100 herbs to level my prof. Don’t care about the price so much but it was an irritatingly frustrating experience.

This is a pretty terrible analogy, since that’s exactly what healbot did back in the day.

Same thing happened to me. Typed 100 and clicked buy now for stormcharged leather. Kept getting “this item in no longer available” over and over and over as the lowest priced stacks were constantly being instantly bought and reposted with fluctuating prices.

Good luck trying to buy anything even slightly undercutting when bots are set up to instantly grab it.

Except it never did that.

Tell us you didn’t play Vanilla without telling us you didn’t play Vanilla.

BAN THEM ADD ONS (oops sorry in politics mode)
Just restrict how often the ah is scanned

There are numerous YouTube videos showing you exactly how to do it. One video (that I can’t link here) titled:

Best TSM Settings for Flipping in WoW | My TSM Settings | WoW Gold Making

Explains the process and how to use the tool and its built in macros to do it.

How will breaking addons solve an issue caused by a database that is too large to function properly?

Seriously do you have an answer for that or is it just going to be more addon on hate when that isn’t even the problem.

I’m over it. The ignorance and arrogance and stupidity of some of y’all is astounding. I’m gonna go make another 6 million gold selling another Crowd Pummler and rank 3 flasks while you cry on the forums about an addon you don’t use or understand.

The issue is that the AH database is massively inflated in size, causing it to lag.

You know it’s not bots right? It’s players constantly buying bulk low and reposting high with trade goods. All realms are linked in that way which causes a massive strain

So that’s 260 vs the millions of players using the AH normally.

Given that AH calls are rate-limited per account, it’s the millions of players who are causing the item not found errors.

I was just coming here to say that, trying to buy meat for cooking, and could not, I guess i’ll just starve to death.
