This is absolutely unnecessary and unwanted. This not only doesn’t help the buying of gold which is cheaper on gold selling sites and the bots who earn said gold, it means everything now has a cash value in wrath. Want those fancy mounts from those achievements? Pay money for gold to buy a run or work your butt off for no reason other than your integrity and the joy of “classic” which has been soiled cause everyone is going to just shill money out instead of work for their earnings. This community doesn’t want this and never did. We wanted actual work to be put in to stop and help diminish gold selling. Please reconsider and remove the wow token.
You are a disgrace of a company.
The real rea$on i$ executive$ want money. You know it, I know it, everyone know$ it. JUST STOP FKN LYING
I don’t see how tokens are a solution to bots or an inflated economy.
Your not changing the amount of gold in the game… just changing who owns it.
There’s still the same amount of gold.
Why would this decrease gold selling? If anything it would increase it knowing that real world gold buys game time means higher consistent demand to need gold. All your doing is establishing a baseline price to gold which… and let’s face it any professional gold service would be able to easily undercut effectively anyways since they can easily do their business with less overhead.
All you can really claim is that your providing a more secure method for RMT.
Why would anyone buy them from blizzard when you could easily Google that you Can get far more gold for the value from a gold seller.
I think all you’re doing really is giving External RMT an excuse to charge more.
Right now that’s exactly what’s happening. Which is why them saying this is to combat RMT is laughable.
You didnt arrive at it lightly. You arrived at it heavy… with profit in mind. smh we are all disguisted but blizz could care less. at least FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DONT PUT THIS MESS IN ERA. it is the last almost pure version left
If we can’t beat em’, we might as well join them should have been the title of their post, and for great shame.
• The WoW Token will not reduce the demand for gold. The WoW Token is a way for players to buy gold with real money. This will only increase the demand for gold, as players that may have not bought gold illicitly, will now turn to Blizzard as an official source for RMT. This will lead to further inflation, as the value of gold will decrease whether by direct or indirect psychologial or economic mechanisms.
• The WoW Token will not reduce botting. Botting is the use of automated programs to play the game for you. Botting is a major problem in WoW, and it is used to farm gold, level characters, and complete quests. The WoW Token will not reduce botting. Botters are going to continue as they always have, this will do nothing to stop them.
• The WoW Token will not reduce the number of gold sellers. Gold sellers are players who sell gold to other players for real money. The WoW Token will not reduce the number of gold sellers, as the token provides no measure of price competition to them. It’s not even close.
• The WoW Token will not make the game more fair. The WoW Token will give players who have more money an unfair advantage over players who do not have as much money. Players who buy gold with real money will be able to buy better gear, level faster, and complete content more easily than players who do not. It legitimizes and officially enshrines GDKP.
• The WoW Token is a bad idea. It harms the integrity of the game. The WoW Token is a bad idea for a number of reasons. It will increase inflation, reduce the demand for gold, increase botting, increase the number of gold sellers, and make the game less fair, and greatly damages it’s integrity.
In addition to these points, the WoW Classic Team’s post also makes a number of other claims that are easily debunked. For example, the team claims that the WoW Token will not be a temptation for most regular players to buy. However, this is simply not true. The WoW Token will be a temptation for many players, regardless of how much they play the game.
The WoW Classic Team also claims that the WoW Token will not impact the average player’s experience. However, this is also not true. The WoW Token will impact the average player’s experience in a number of ways. For example, it will make it easier for players to buy gold, which will lead to inflation. Inflation impacts everyone, making our primary currency worth less. It will also make it easier for players to buy better gear, which will make the game less challenging.
In conclusion, the WoW Classic Team’s post about the WoW Token in Wrath of the Lich King Classic is full of misleading and false information. The WoW Token is a bad idea, and it will have a number of negative consequences for the game.

Thanks for killing my favorite MMO
You’ll get no sympathy from me, I’m going back to GW2 and FFXIV
Let me tell ya somethin’, brothers! I appreciate the work you guys do. I understand there is only so much you can do about bots and gold sellers, but one thing to remember is there wouldn’t be a market for sellers to sell if there wasn’t people to sell to.
Best thing to do is take your vitamins and say your prayers, dudes!
I personally don’t have a strong opinion about wow token. It’s just this sour disconnect with the community and their own Blizzard values that they try to promote. This entire wall of text trying to shift the blame on bots and RMT instead of looking within their own game and company.
been waiting for this to make some easy blizz bucks. and with the upcoming updates, i may even start up wotlk again.
I like the addiction of wow token. I’ve been trading my own gold for wow tokens for years now so I can keep my sub going.
I’ve been barely logging on for weeks due to my work schedule. I guess this is a good time to call it quits. I never bought DF.
Tokens allow too much gold movement. Prior to tokens, characters would hoard gold and that’s where it would end, so the economy never felt it.
With tokens, people with too much gold, or those looking to stop playing, convert it all to tokens, which just moves the money around, causing economic problems.
Maybe destroy 50% of the gold used to purchase a token, and it would not cripple the economy.
There are retail forum threads from players that have cornered AH markets by buying ridiculous amounts of gold from tokens, buying everything, reselling, and making profit. Then using that profit to buy tokens and maintain their hold on the AH.
At least if it wasn’t a sanctioned transaction buying gold, they’d be caught and dealt with, losing their strangle hold on the AH.
All in all, I’ve never liked games that have a real world value tied to in game play. The token makes everything you do in WoW a cost. I play to get away from these pressures.
My wife has already started telling her guild in discord that she’s too dismayed to join them in game. It’s likely she’ll be quitting soon.
And like this, Classic is dead for me. Guess it’s time for private servers to come live again.
Why this post is a complete and utter lie and nothing more than PR speech to try and calm the storm:
You also added the token to Korean servers, where there is no such thing as a fight against bots and RMT, because they need a social security ID linked to their phone number to even create an account.
Just cut the crap, your fight against bots and RMT is lackluster and it’s no wonder you’re not able to get rid of them when you just ban in waves and let them cheat for months, so it’s actually worth it for them.
It’s pointless banning bots they just make more bots. How many gold buyers do you ban a week? Like actual players who have invested time and energy into their account and will actually be upset if they get banned???
you guys are so full of it. I personally still remember when you lied about your anit botting on countdown to classic. Hopefully everyone else does and realises how much of a load of this blurb is. Just tell us why you really did it. The player base might respect you if you just said, “we want more of your money”, because we all know you haven’t cared about, or put in a reasonable attempt at combatting botting the entire classic life cycle.
Hey guys, we are going to combat RMT, by implementing more RMT!!! You guys are geniuses!
Don’t you find it hilarious that they informed us of this the same day the event “A Greedy Emissary” begins?
