This. MMOs get a huge influx of players when new content drops and then as the expansion goes on players unsub until new content comes out and the cycle repeats. This happens with WoW all the time especially in the long content droughts that WoW is infamous for
I have never touched FF. I only have time for one MMO in my life.
That said, I do remember a particular creator swearing off WoW. I said all along that these people were never actually leaving, and I was right!!
they had months to fix their potato servers and havenât. they would have if they thought that they were leaving long term money on the table. because square loves money (look at the ff7r and kingdom hearts dramas to see how much they do) but they havenât bothered. that should tell you all you need to know but again, copium.
Activision blizzard loves it too
all companies love money. when wow thought there was money left on the table due to potato servers they fixed the servers. the last time was in WoD which had pre orders of 10m. if even WoD, which is considered wowâs worst expansion, had 10xs the pre orders of ff14âs newest expansion youâd think people would be less deluded about ff14âs popularity. but here we are.
I havenât been playing because February was loaded with other games. Lost Ark, Total War: Warhammer 3, Destiny 2: Witch Queen, Elden Ring, and a huge update for Cyberpunk. Since I havenât been playing 14, Iâm not on the Steam charts even though Iâm still subbed lol.
Iâll be back on this weekend though, need to finish clearing Savage.
Not everything is as predictable as you think it is. The large surge of players mostly came from Blizzards drama from last year, as well as people not happy with this games story. They did not see that coming, and with the silicon shortage, it was difficult to get the hardware to update servers in an appropriate amount of time to accommodate all the players. What your saying completely eludes the entire situation and blaming them on them when the situation has little to do with it. I am starting to see bias from your posting and foot ball way of thinking is not the same as logic my friend.
imagine: pro wow bias on the wow forums. i am not on the ff14 forums carrying on about how great wow is the way yall do in reverse. i didnât post even when i played because their community is garbage. the only reason i post in ff14 threads at all is because some ff14 players on the wow forums somehow seem to think they need a safe space for themselves to circle jergin about how great ff14 is on the wow forums. if you want an echo chamber about a different MMO than wow then go to that games forums.
So if I go to retail forums I get PardonnezâŚthen I want some peace and quit so I go over to the Classic forums and I am greeted with Lemonfont⌠If you were that poster on an alt I would not be surprised.
i go to the classic forums cuz the drama is so much spicier there.
Yes, but they are ruled with an iron fist. So your question would probably be deleted there.
because some people are like WOW should copy FF14 systems etc , they are so succesfull , nop they arent if you look at numbers / trends , itâs going into the ground , people are quitting the game like crazy , 2 months after expansion release
i donât want WOW to become FF14
FF14 is a successful MMO that caters to a different kind of audience than WoW. You donât need to freak constantly freak out about it âbeatingâ WoW because at the end of the day WoW actually having competition will push the devs to actually improve the game
That would have happened only if devs see the reality. In their mindsâŚthey are still convinced everything is fine
no they know , just watch Ion last interview , sadly they canât change anything in Shadowlands . Patch/Cinematics are done since months
iâm optimistic for 10.0 , but hey say iâm on copium if you want
mmm thatâs the problem.
Other than FF14 no other mmo has really grabbed anyoneâs attention.
If you ask me the lurking threat that is Riots mmorpg is the only thing that could usurp WoWs place. Yet we have heard little of it yetâŚso theyâre either still playing with ideas in the oven or theyâre keeping it all top secret till they know theyâve got something good.
if any MMO that came out innovated the way wow initially did, and was actually good, wow would be forced to improve. thatâs why every âwow killerâ has died. they all try to copy wowâs basic formula and donât do it as well so people go âwhy donât i just play wow instead?â wow isnât the game it used to be obviously but it is still miles better than the other junk that calls itself an MMO atm. blizz does take small things from other MMOs to improve wow but wow would make the game considerably worse if it tried to copy large important things from other games that arenât as good.
Then go play FF14. You can do BOTH! For real. Log out of WOW, go play FF14. Then log out and come back to WoW. Mind blowing info hereâŚ
Itâs always been like that in FF14. People come for the new story, level up their class, try the new raid. Than take a break until next patch. Square Enix never rushed any content they give time to people. Only the most dedicated (Those who play craft / RP) or those who pay land taxe (FF14 house owner) remain to the game.
Things will pick up more when they release the Alliance raid, and some of the newer miscellaneous content. The Dev presented the new Expansion road map, looks pretty interesting and thereâs a lot of activities to come that should create some retention for a while when it happens.
Reminder: FF14 6.1 is in April. Shadowlands has had 2 content patches since it launchedâŚ
