This is so Wrong now

In Midnight zones, battle pets won’t require battling to capture. Just throw a trap and they’re yours. This only applies to Midnight pets and older zones currently still require battles to capture them. And this has nothing to do with Nintendo either…cause you still have to use traps in the older zones.

It’s more than that, the pets won’t have skills or abilities in midnight going forward, and there won’t be any new NPC battles either.
Some old battles (northrend etc) got achievements added.

Damn this sucks big time …now I see where they stripped resources from as some say to put in Housing now…damn suspicious for sure …

So we can’t use any of the new Midnight pets to battle now ? is that you your saying?

Not all pets have been stripped of abilities, but most. Below is a link to a new 12.0 pet on the alpha that has abilities. I don’t know what that all means but kind of sucks we haven’t seen any official communication about it.

I was very annoyed that pet battles didn’t exist in Karesh, despite having so many critters about that were more than suitable to be battle-pets (and most of the rares and questlines rewarding a battle pet).
It felt so backwards being rewarded pets, then being forced to go to a different zone entirely just to level and use them for their intended purpose.

The changes make me feel like they’re taking Battle Pets more towards a cosmetic route rather than a supported feature.
It wouldn’t surprise me if they outright removed pet battling from all future zones- an absolute stupid decision if they do go down that path and you can guarantee me and many others will flood their forums with complaints.

This doesn’t feel like they’re trying to simplify it for new players- (I know many were confused that they couldn’t have a pet fight for them like Hunters, but that’s a player issue, not an issue with the in-game system)- it almost feels like they’re beginning the process of completely removing it.

I for one, love pet battling.
I love starting a battle and seeing what rarity the beasties are and I always strive to catch only the Rare quality ones. If there isn’t a rare, I use the fight to level up or outright forfeit so someone else who isn’t bothered about rarity can battle and catch one.
Being able to catch them without knowing the quality beforehand seems a little backwards to me- I don’t want to catch common quality pets and I don’t want to take away from others (if I trap one and it’s common quality, I’ll be throwing it away- which makes it an absolute waste of time both for me and others who’ll have to wait for the respawn or find another.)

I’ve been echoing my sentiment in other threads but it bears adding here as well.

This is genuinely upsetting to me, phasing out PvE pet battle content after being a staple in the game for 13 years leaves those of us who loved and engaged with this system feeling lost.

It’s something I look forward to with every new content release, it should be evergreen.

In an expansion celebrating the introduction of Player Housing as a unique, evergreen feature it feels hypocritical to axe another fun system that has a niche but passionate playerbase.

I know not everyone engages with it, that doesn’t mean it should stop existing.

Unfortunately, it kinda does. It just doesn’t make sense to continue developing things for such a niche audience. It’s better to just axe pet battles and focus entirely on player housing.

but when you say that, i come out of the woodwork and tell you that my son pet battles, my wife pet battles and a few players in my guild pet battles.

then to top that those same players and basically everyone that i know in game and on my discords have no use and will not interact with housing. so should housing even exist?

i mean the only time i seen people ask for housing are on these forums and now they are getting it and i could not be happier for them. because i love the game and i want to see it filled with players again. but when something is added at the cost of something else being removed or dimished, you are only offsetting and not adding or making things better.

Lets just call it what it is. THIS SUCKS. I love pet battling and pet collecting. I love the challenge of finding that last pet. of battling and losing. I am a collector and a battler. I’m also a hard core raider and i love the lore. I wish they would leave things as they are. I like new stuff, BUT don’t take away our older things. I feel the same way about archaeology.

By that argument they should have stopped developing raids in Vanilla / TBC as only a very very small % ever got to complete them. Something like less than a 1% of the player base ever stepped foot in Sunwell.

It’s silly logic.

I also guarantee that a very small % of people are going to take housing even remotely seriously.

I am with you on that too with Archaeology…I hated they stopped doing anything for it now…and your dang right it does SUCK what they are doing to Pet Battles with Midnight…sigh

As someone who rarely focuses on Pet Battles, this feature has been relegated to a glorified Achievement Point grind for the last decade or so.

And for those like me, it’s the main content I remain subbed for. I’m sure we can find some content where the opposite is true; I only PvP to unlock new pets, for example.

Both of these are subjective anecdotes. Housing will be way more popular than pet battling ever was.

That’s sunwell. Many more did step foot in other raids. Many go back and complete the old raids. Blizzard also has made raiding significantly easier and more accessible.

This is just a fallacious comparison that doesn’t work. Raiding has ALWAYS been more SIGNIFICANTLY popular than pet battles and it’s trolling to suggest otherwise.

In this theory, pvp should go away as not eveyone plays pvp.. Just because some people do not play it does not mean it should get the axe

More people play PVP than they do pet battles. That’s why these comparisons don’t work.

Pet battles are the least popular content in the entire game.

I would’ve said same thing about Transmogs and all the Cosmetic junk we’re offered. Unfortunately these seem to be a really big deal for so many players. And they offer a huge advantage over pets for Blizzard, quick and easy to toss into the game. No need to worry about animations and abilities. Artists generally work a whole lot cheaper than the programmers.

I beg to differ, but pet battles are not the least popular. The amount of people that engage with the activity is quite high. Just because you don’t see the numbers doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. I’ve been in numerous guilds that are extremely large and its a huge thing.

Like i stated earlier just because something is not used by everyone, does not mean it should be removed..

This is what your stating by stating " It just doesn’t make sense to continue developing things for such a niche audience.":
Not everyone collects mounts.. better axe them
Not everyone collect transmogs.. better axe them
Not everyone pvps.. better axe them
Not everyone mythic+ runs.. better axe them

see where we are going with this..

Well, you’d be wrong lol.

Again, you’re forgetting that all of these things are SIGNIFICANTLY more popular than pet battles lol.

People PVP for Pet battles or did you not see the post above you. Also why post on a lil alt name Petdetective when you do not engage in Pet Battling. Ive been playing since Vanilla came out. I quit raiding in Cata. Im so sick of nothing in this game but Grinding for Rep and I only do that if there is a pet involved to get. This will probably be the end of the game for me. I wont bother paying for Midnight when the game will not have something that interests me. Its no wonder Blizz couldnt be bothered to fix the Caged Pet bug in Gbanks.
