Things FFXIV does better WoW should learn from

Ill say, I miss job quests. Role quests just arent as interesting in ShB compared to having my own story for my own job.

It just feels a bit too homogenized in identity for me.

All the typical talking points.

  1. They never promised different genders for those races and they explained why.

  2. They explained why. Not even remotely an issue with the exception of a handful of angry players who won’t let it go (similar to the flying issue here)

  3. A non problem.

  4. An optional service. Don’t want to pay…you don’t have to.

NONE of these thing are “egregious” and are minor player gripes.

They don’t care.
The only thing FF players worry about is the toxicity that some WoW players bring with them.

Textbook under-criticism.

I dont care what the reasoning is. If Blizzard straight up did the same thing, WoW fans would crucify them for it.

Arent people criticizing Blizzard for walking back on customizations because they “promised” them? I dont see how this is any different at all.

So wait. One race has to buy a Fantasia (RL money store option) to change their hairstyle but the other races dont…and you dont see this as bad?

Lol stop dude.

That’s their forum. 1343 pages don’t even try to say it’s a small issue.

And you know damn well people in wow would NOT accept 1 gender race even if blizzard announced it beforehand.

Theres also a female Hrothgar one that has like 500+ pages too.

  1. No…they really wouldn’t cry over something so stupid.

  2. There’s a difference between hairstyles and complete customization. Are you seriously trying to be this dramatic?

  3. No, cause most aren’t going to buy a fantasia over a damn hairstyle.

It is. By the same people over and over. The rage wasn’t there until said players decided that we were getting them…something they (Square) NEVER said was going to happen.

I agree with most of this. I would be happy to make Ff14 my game but the thing that keeps me in WoW is playing with my husband. That is the most enjoyable part for me. He just can’t get into the aesthetic of FF.

I agree. But you physically cannot change the hair style of a Hrothgar without buying a Fantasia because its tied to face.

NO OTHER RACE IS LIKE THAT. Not even viera. Making hrothgar the only race not able to change hairstyle at the aesthetician. Thats really bad.

Yes, because glamour is actually a major part for a lot of FF14 players and they cant glamour a certain part of their armor with said race.

A promise is a promise, if Blizz gets crucified for breaking theirs…SE should be also criticized for breaking theirs.

Dude Alliance players literally complained about Mechagnome’s and transmog. Dont tell me that WoW players wouldnt have a massive anger if they decided to give male-only and female-only races.

Many of the areas in WoW are far more beautiful than FF so I could see that.

I just want to point out that preheat is really good at dropping conversation grenades.

ff14 should take a hint from wow and reduce gcd’s length.

that alone would go a long way - but i have a feeling their servers couldn’t take it.

Preheat threads make me miss Rastlin.

1343 pages is 13430 individual posts… definitely not just the same 10 people or whatever…Quickly skim through it and you’ll see alot of different posters.

And like the other guy said female hrotgar has a 500ish pages post as well, and they keep getting bumped despite being from 2019… people aren’t letting it go.

It doesn’t matter if they said it’s not gonna happen, if tomorrow blizzard said they’re making a new race but it’s only female people would lose their crap and rightfully so. It’s especially worse after they said from 1.0 they would NEVER do it again (male only highlander female only miqo) then went ahead and did the same thing.

It’s not going anywhere.

Without the random bump, it would stay 7 or 8 pages back once SE removed the sticky…nearly a year ago.

Yeah…it does matter. They knew what was coming long before it did.

So what? The point is that if Blizzard did the same thing that they would be called out heavily for it.

Its okay to be critical of games you play. But again, the amount of things FF14 gets away with – would boggle a WoW player if they ever were implemented in WoW.

This was the hardest adjustment. The CD took a while to get used to.

PvP is far superior here though. It’s terrible there. If they changed the CD to be as fluid, they would have an almost perfect experience especially for PvP players.

They aren’t getting away with anything. Different devs, different players.

Blizz get so much flack cause it just adds to the already massive pile of things they have done to players especially since Activision came along.

So no replayability with different characters then.

Sorry if i disagree with this one, but one of the things that people enjoy about RPG’s is having different classes (and Races) to choose from to offer differing gameplay styles, as well boosting the replayability for different runs.

Ovbiously not all RPG’s etc, Skyrim is one popular example of being classless, but allows you to either be the jack of trades or just specialize into one “class” if you wish.

Well i guess you would hate 95% of the RPG’s out there then.

That sounds like a balancing nightmare for the devs.

I love how people just latch this on and say whatever they dislike is “Poor game design”.

What’s next? Picking a race is poor game design now?

…Mmm. :man_shrugging:

I think this has a level of validity that i can get behind, so let’s see how you –

:face_with_raised_eyebrow:

As much i like solo content in an MMO, i think at this point, you’re asking for Skyrim.

…Okay.

What do you mean “PvP doesn’t count”? it’s still an activity, casual or otherwise that people can partake in.

Based on what?

No i haven’t actually wondered that. Personally speaking, i’m a casual and i don’t see any desire in trying in any of the Final Fantasys. It’s just a franchise i’m not interested in.

Define meaningful here.

Sure. :man_shrugging:

Maybe you aren’t looking at Normal or lower keys?

Want to provide some numbers here to see how close were talking?

I honestly don’t believe this isn’t the case, considering meta’s exist in any sort of game and those people who does some level a gatekeeping, whether it be though achievement or classes that might be powerful this month. Just because you don’t hear about it, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

Well since you said in FFXIV we can change classes as we please, i’m going to go out on the limb and say their isn’t any meaninful choice to begin with and it’s just for the most part cosmetic.

You actually do have a choice.

Then make your own group.

I never felt the need to swap.

Okay while i do agree that their should be a better currency rate here, i do have to ask, is this what you mean by ‘meaningful’ here? getting better rewards?

https://media.giphy.com/media/K8zzqui9viWT6/giphy.gif

Because it’s fun for them.

Is your point here is if WoW doesn’t have tons and/or silly outfits/cosmetics as FF14 has, it’s pointless to have or something?

I do agree we should have more cosmetics in general, but this is a strange point to bring up.

So to make crafting meaningful, just throw in cosmetics to craft?

I do think that crafting should provide another path of gearing if you’re willing to grind out the resources to upgrade/craft your gear. I don’t think it should be like up towards Mythic raiding level though.

Looks at the OP.

This is like saying you cant criticize free to play games for being P2W because “different devs, different players”

Like unironically, thats just shielding devs from criticism.
