They/them pronouns

Isn’t they/them plural? Why don’t we call everyone “it” then no one can be offended or called by the wrong pronoun.

Hate to tell you this but to me, literally everyone is “that guy” (even not guys) or “this kid” (even not kids).

You can preach about disrespect all you like but fact is, I do not respect you. At all. You are a stranger to me. I will give anyone the courtesy of being civil off the bat, but you aren’t getting my respect 'til you’ve earned it, kid.

There is actually such a thing as the “singular they”. It’s been around for hundreds of years, though it’s primarily used if you need to refer to an individual and you don’t know their gender.

Of course in WoW, everybody gets referred to by their class name.

If there are 2 of the same class in the group, I will instead use the first 3-4 letters of your character name.

Beyond that you are all amorphous blobs who dispense damage, healing, and threat.

Dude gets used in our discord as a gender neutral word…other words get use as gender neutral but I can’t say those on the forum. These words usually come before or after phrases such as “get out of the” and “don’t stand there”.

That’s right, Precious, the mallet again.

Someone asks me in game to call them by their pronoun I’m either calling them their character name , their class or just flat out ignoring them

Why not just call them by their pronoun if they ask? Is it really that big of a deal to you not to?

You know, the only time most random people in World of Warcraft will ever refer to your pronouns in any way is if you’re offline/disconnected and someone asks “should we kick him/her” (very small probability here, someone’s just gonna initiate the kick without consulting party chat most likely). And you’re not even there to see it, so it’s ok if they don’t get it right.

The farthest I’d meet you on this is a compromise. If I remember you want be addressed a certain way AND it makes sense to address you in that way ok. But your class or you character name should suffice in most situations and I’m not straining or stressing to use pronouns.

There shouldn’t be any punishment for it either that’s exactly part of the problem today. Make fun of it all you want but if a society tries to continually punish people for every little thing that slights someone else that will lead to a weakened society . Why does that matter because like most things one condition or problem gradually feeds into other issues like people who can’t get along together because we walk on eggshells at every thing we say, we also lose any sense of humor because hey nothing is funny if it offends right?!

And it just starts there,

Pronouns aren’t an agenda. They’re grammar.

. . . yeah . . . they’re also an agenda.

I don’t bring my ‘reality’ into a fantasy gaming world and I hope others do not as well.

Grammar would dictate that an individual cannot be a plurality, so using grammar improperly is a political mechanism.

No, we are allies. Fact is, no one can have everything they want, but one thing for sure, it’s independents in the middle in swing states who decide who controls the Federal government.

Liberals fully support LGBT on important things like equality under the law, equality in jobs, equality in housing, equality in family issues. However when you start demanding They/Them pronouns, even if liberals went along you would lose those moderates in the middle who decide elections by chasing them away.

You don’t want to do that. Be reasonable. We will help you with the big things but don’t be into 99% support means we are not an ally. That just won’t work.

I get that. I call all gnomes “Rita” because you’re the Gnomish Standard.
