My mom was like this when I got into Runescape and watched me closely. I had to convince her I couldnt make money or trade other players because I couldn’t talk to others online.
chatgpt usually uses paragraphs
My thing is they are 14, if this story is real.
A 6 year old can bypass parental locks on a tablet these days.
You are telling me a high schooler is blocked from chat? Aaaaaaaaand got mom involved?
Tbh that wasn’t my angle at all.
I know as a teenager I had a lot of “blocks”, but I also knew how to get around them.
Not being allowed to talk in chat at 14 just seems super farfetched. Especially not being able to attempt to outsmart parents with another chat window… chat addons…etc.
Then quite literally crying to mom.
I just don’t really believe it. Especially with how many fake vote kick stories we’ve had lately.
Second paragraph was at OP.
If I take it at face value it’s not really an impossible scenario. Kid cries, parent is likely young given the kid’s age, likely understands enough to put 2 and 2 together on “kid mad about people in game” or something. They already seem pretty involved with the kid’s online life.
Sounds like millennial parents.
A 14 year old isn’t fooling me with a new chat window.
To be clear, this isn’t to say I believe OP, just that it isn’t some freak scenario for me. It’s also entirely possible the kid posed as a parent to gain sympathy. We’ve all been kids, we know how wily and manipulative we could be back then.
Oop my bad lol.
Eh I just find it super odd claiming a 14 year old quite literally went crying to mom to yell at the mean people online.
Teenagers aren’t like that. Normally anyway.
I’d have a new chat window and close it even I heard anything going on in the room.
Tbh if I was a parent, I’d set up chat filters.
People say mean things online, but fully limiting it doesn’t really do anything. I’d rather allow them freedom and block the nonsense.
My chat filter does that for me right now, but I mostly use it to filter out spammers cus moonguard.
Tbh thats more than likely what happened. Or op used a fake story to garner sympathy to push vote kick changes.
Impossible to tell unless they out themselves.
But tbh posts like this tend to me more telling when op posts something controversial like vote kicks then doesn’t participate in the thread at all.
I kind of agree, but I don’t think the image painted was that the kid cried to mom. I think it was the mom noticing an upset kid.
Yeah, but most peoples’ parents at our time of kidhood were not savvy with online programs.
My dad was, so I have a good frame of reference for how I could be even on the low end of aptitude. Or, TLDR, that still ain’t foolin’ me if I have a mind to be a nosy parent.
I don’t mind entertaining it for one very specific reason.
You could give me one thousand clear examples of how the vote to kick seems to suck… it’s still a drop in the bucket of all the vote to kicks that happen. A 1% or lower rate of “oof that sucks” is not bad.
Because there’s no such thing. The majority of the group wanted him gone (assuming this r/thathappened story is genuine) and so he was removed. No abuse of any kind.
Tell that to Charlie Brown.
Mine was as well. At that time, he had his own security company. I built my own pc at 12 with a bunch of spare parts from old recycled computers he replaced.
Dual roms, floppy just in case. No colors matched
Heck. We had our own mini server for our home for movies, music, files.
So I get it too. Didn’t stop me from hacking his runescape because he had a members account and I didn’t
I agree, I just like asking questions.
Tbh I’d love to see vote kick stats. Like % of groups that actually have them then a chart of reasons. Blizz would shut down a lot of nonsense by just showing us. Because tbh its probably a lot less than us being generous with percentages.
14 and crying over a dungeon kick? Like I get it, sucks to get kicked, but 14 is like about to get a part time job, about to be able to drive on the road.
We have adults crying about it on these forums all the time.
Oh, yeah, you right
Like I’ve said before, Blizz could at least put in a strike system. First kick of the day could be a fluke or harassment or who knows what. I’ve been kicked once in years and it wasn’t something I did. It was during Remix. Group formed, and within a minute I was kicked. No one had even said anything. We hadn’t even pulled. No weird character name (unless a paladin named Glory is offensive?). Just kicked for no fault of my own. I’m sure that’s happened to other players too. Maybe a five minute debuff. Tops.
Get kicked out of a second group? It’s getting more likely it’s something that player so doing, but maybe not. 15 minute debuff.
Get a third kick, it’s really, really likely it’s something that player is doing getting them kicked. Full 30 minute debuff.
This wouldn’t 100% solve that kid’s problem, but he at least could have been playing again in five minutes instead of 30.
Fake stories get old.
The box should be bigger, the character being kicked should have the portrait beside, a delayed “yes” button of 10 seconds OR you need to type out yes.
Unfortunately you cant force a human to read why, I decline all vote kicks unless I know the reason but the same cant be said for everyone. Its really weighing the options, keep the person that seems to aggravate a teammate and wait for the auto fill to kick in or have a grumpy teammate spamming the vote kick the entire dungeon which splits your focus.
Nope. The whole point is to annoy them into being predisposed to click “no”. Typing out “yes” completely kills that purpose. Typing “yes” takes less than a second.
people vote to kick for stupid reasons. I personally dont think a vote kick should be an option if the toons are under max level because we all know there are toxic players that will kick someone who isnt as good at their toon as others.
In this instance the minute the tank got kicked i would be asking questions of that other player. But what do i know, I’m just a healer and if a group did something like that to a tank, I would leave the group also. Let them wait in DPS queue now after what they have done.
Kicks should require an ingame Veto that demands an actual reason for kicking that the Game itself and thus the Devs will accept(which includes something that the Game can read which means no typing out overly complicated or grandiose reasons for kicking).
That’s ridiculously restrictive. If you’re spamming dungeons you can get 2 dungeons in a row where a player never enters the dungeon but can’t be kicked immediately now.
As I said above, it’s not unusual for a player to not enter the dungeon. In a TW dungeon last night we had to wait to kick someone who was in ICC.
I allow my daughter to play and we turn off the chat entirely and make sure that she doesn’t talk to anyone, we’ve been doing this since she was about 5. Its a great game and she has always had a blast making characters and just killing things or flying around or just jumping off of large heights. I’m not going to allow here to see all of the stuff that is said in this game though as much of its not age appropriate, for now she can experience it as a single player game.
At this point we’ve also had to go over not giving out personal information etc as well as how much of an expletive people can be due to playing other games. Twice now we’ve simply had to uninstall a game because of the repeated behavior of people. One of which was animal crossing if I remember right for people who would talk her into trading rares and than not uphold their end of the trade.
