I cant even imagine anyone doing this. It definitely wasnt a m+ if you just got another tank. I rarely see anyone talk at all in groups. And if they even say hey (which Ill respond to) thats the end of it.
So I guess the other 2 just clicked for whatever reason. But good on you to help the kid out! We need more like that and less like the kickers.
I rarely vote to kick people unless they are afk for a while, being a complete jerk and or just making the run miserable on purpose.

it definitely needs to be tweaked a bit to reduce the abuses of innocent players.
mature/unfiltered/non bannable for toxic chat servers would alleviate this. Instead of banning people for profanity and toxic behaviour, just throw them on the prison… I mean mature server. Eventually the other servers will clean up and we can see who the better players are vs. better experience.
If more players took the time to represent what they wanted to see from their communities.
If players stood up for those that are young or bullied when they are being attacked.
If you get up and take the attack upon yourself. Coerce the bully to say things that will get them banned. While not being a degenerate yourself.
There are steps you can take to ensure a better overall gaming environment. Little steps.

Pretty much what’s happening. People can’t and/or don’t want to think for themselves. So they “go along” with whatever is easiest and are easily swayed to attack, in various ways, actually innocent people. How many people insist we must “learn from the past” but themselves repeat the exact same mistakes, somehow not realizing they are what they claim to oppose.
So, you should do stuff that makes people angry so long as you’re within the ToS? Isn’t this what online trolls do anyways like the people in the OP’s scenario?
When one person is being deliberately belligerent, toxic, mean, hateful. Yes. Make them angry. Say to them what they are saying to everyone else, in a calmer, less volatile way. Force them to be the worst they can be so you can get the worst proof and have them banned.
When people abide by these fools every day, where they receive no punishments from their toxic lives. If I can find a way to neutralize them from the game I love. I will.
That’s considered mutual combat and will likely end up with both individuals being sanctioned. Best advice is to not engage with the troll, report, ignore, and continue on with your day.

I havent seen or dealt with that in game (which isnt relevant to others experiences)…in here, all the time. Some will keep baiting trying to get a reaction (and yet never seem to be actioned). And contrary to someone elses comment above, context is never taken into account from what Ive seen.
Best to just ignore everyone. Dont speak to anyone…ever. Not worth risking your game account being actioned

edit: I miss the old guard of this game, warts and all. They were still better than what we have now. Yes I am with what people do, as long as the game is good.
I always vote no unless there is a reason for the kick or they been d/c longer than 5 min
But I have put a vote kick on the jerks that do it to people that didn’t deserve it. Always super funny when they get removed because the rest of the group just auto accepts every vote to kick.
Thing is out of the thousands of dungeons I’ve run there have been I would guess I’ve seen less than 100 vote kicks for things other than 10+min no reason given afk or 5+min
