Elden Ring actually has a fairly active pvp community in case you weren’t aware
I’ll agree that arenas are dumb. But the rest of pvp is the only reason I play the game. Bgs, world pvp and duels are really the only reason I log in anymore. You can do a level 10 dungeon and a end game dungeon and it’s basically exactly the same experience. Leveling or doing quests remains the same from one to max and forever after max. Pvp is quite literally the only content in the game that changes. For whatever reason people wanna kill the same NPC 10000000000 times is beyond me. That stuff is worse than watching paint dry. Leave pvp alone…it can’t hurt you. You literally don’t even have to acknowledge it.
Rated battlegrounds should just be queable… so should mythic dungeons. I have no idea why they force us to make groups for them… PVP is still a zerg fest and damage is always wonky… it’s fun sometimes… but not always.
The people that play this game are so funny to me.
Remove PvP. Remove Mythic. Remove Delves. Remove flying mounts. Remove. Remove. Remove.
Like if Blizzard listened to the community it would be a game where you log in at level 1 and walk around in the world doing nothing.
Well this is fun, hasn’t been a PvP hate thread in a while since Plunderstorm
What planet are you playing WOW from, if I can inquire?
That’s awesome! people are having fun, you’re not.
That’s ironically what most of the complainers do. Instead of realizing the game is THE GAME they are stuck in this pit of the past where everything they compare to their childhood remembrance can never compete. It’s intriguing but also really sad that there’s people without the seemingly regular ability to question themselves.
I just hate losing fun PVE things because of complaints of how it causes imbalance in PVP.
I understand the complaints, but I still hate it.
pvp is a rock paper scissors of mitigating big burst in the beginning.
if fights are lasting longer, the different classes shine. some classes damage is lower because they are effectively unkillable when using their full kit / kiting / etc.
Going toe to toe and pressing buttons is a totally different thing and really shouldn’t be considered, however it’s very easy for classes that benefit from toe to toe to force that level of fighting due to stuns/cc.
for instance, there are classes where if they live through an initial burst/cc barrage, they win. and there are other classes where if they juke out CC and wait to burst not at the intro but a few seconds deeper, they win.
Unfortunately you will notice the classes and times that someone runs up to you and unga bungas you to the graveyard more than the slippery weasel characters that it feels like you should win but they beat you in attrition, especially because basically every PVP scenario involves multiple players.
They should make M+ invadable by enemy players where you have to fight them off at times. Maybe then pvp would have better balance. You know just like you can be invaded in Souls games before you enter the boss room, but in this case they can invade you on the way.
You must not have played during legion or any time before that where people would be dueling 24/7 outside SW gate or goldshire or Org. It felt like about 40% of the people that played the game only played for PvP and those numbers have NOSEDIVED since then. PvP is in a sad state and it needs more love now than ever.
It’s always been this way.
I remember as a rogue on a PvP server, trying to figure out if I could alpha a hunter/mage/etc or not. If I was wrong, I was toast.
There’s an official poll that was conducted on this: Poll: What is your favorite game mode in WoW? - Community / General Discussion - World of Warcraft Forums (blizzard.com), and PvP was the #2 favorite activity (after M+).
The claim that “there’s probably a tiny fraction of the playerbase that actively pvps” is probably false, and invalidates your unsubstantial rant.
We can do polls on these forums?
Blizzard can, not us.
Assumption is the mother of all f… well, you know the quote. I came to this game in 2006. A friend, who played gave me a card from their TBC purchase that let me download and play free before purchase. So I did. He gave me his server name. So I found it and made a character. The server, was a PvP realm. I cannot even tell you how fast I deleted that character and went to an RP realm.
I hate PvP so much, in almost 19 years of playing, I think I might have 10k kills, in BGs. Never did RBGs, Arenas, and NEVER turned on War Mode. I hate PvP more than a plus sized person hates a diet. I’ve not even stepped INTO a BG since Arathi Basin, and refuse to. And, you proved my point. Dangerous PvP happens in the real world, when you do not see it coming and cannot stop mining that node before a Feral or Rogue unstealths and wipes your face on that rock.
Instanced PvP is planned, serves a purpose, and offers a reward. The real danger is WarMode and the prayers of not having some god-tier geared goon swooping out of the sky to pick you off, /spit (now removed), and then fly away.
I play PvP. I’m fairly certain there actually isn’t a dedicated PvP developer, because the game mode has been circling the drain for years. Nothing is being taken away from PvE resources. Just don’t play PvP if you don’t like it.
SS is the most fun I’ve had with PvP in years. Random BGs and even Rated Blitz are awful, but at least in Blitz there aren’t premades. If you’re thinking about trying SS, check out Skill Capped guides on YouTube and high ranked players for your class giving advice. It helped me improved a lot. You don’t need to start with add-ons and macros, but you’ll naturally reach a point where you will want them, and you’ll understand why they exist when this happens. And when you do, they won’t seen overwhelming to use.
PVP is at the heart of World of WARcraft. Orcs vs Humans…its a tale as old as time
PVP is at the heart of video gaming in general- Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Marvel vs Capcom, Super Smashbrothers, Minecraft, etc. Then there’s first person shooters, 5v5 games, etc.
I don’t think they need to get rid of it because it will narrow their customers, and if they focus on one specific type of audience it could probably mean the end of WoW retail. They need to have something for every gamer, a broader gamestyle, if they want more subscribers and stay in business.
More like a drop in subscribers…
The top games in the world PUBG and Fortnite are …bum bum buuum … PVP games! Shocking, I know! …OK (KO lol ehehe) not really shocking, nor am i surprised.
They’re one of the most popular and influential games too. But player vs player has been the heart of any 2+ player games. MAGIC the gathering, for example of a non-video game player vs player.
When arcades first began, they had a lot of 2 player video games and first-person shooters too.
I think WoW devs forgot how pvp works. They need to actually play pvp from the top pvp games and the worst pvp games then everything in between, to get how pvp works.
It’s almsot like playing shadow priest- they had a lot of damage BUT it required certain spells and in a certain order, to do huge amounts of dmg. Also combos, special powers were situational too. Examples, i honestly don’t remember them but were like - jump, back, back, kick, or W, A, A, D, or X, Y, Y, Z, or Triangle, traingle, square, square etc, then booom massive special attack with lots of dmg.
In fighting games, You had to know who you were actually good at playing vs the toon you wanted to play, plus you really had to know how to play the toon, practice, practice, practice. Much Like mtg, you really needed to know each card and each of your deck’s strengths and weaknesses were before you can play strategically. OTHERWISE you reaally reallly got lucky if you won, or the fighting game toon was the easiest one to play that even your 5 yr old cousin would win at
