They know Twink wasn't a term of endearment right?

I’ve played both. I don’t get it.

Has the term even been offensive or used in the manner op is insinuating in the past 20-30 years?
I can’t say I’ve ever heard it used offensively in my entire life, other than satire in movies.

I feel like most people who used “Twink”-ing in games and stuff are largely ignorant to the word’s IRL meaning.

Twinks are handsome male gay boys irl, usually teenagers or young adults.

In WoW, they are low-level (levels 19-29 teenage/adult), over-geared (“attractive”) alts. You can see the parallels.

There’s a bunch of these, terms/words. The word just takes on a new meaning of its own, in a different environment.

And no, no one I’ve ever seen has used “Twink” as an insult lol, it’s more of a descriptive term of a handsome, boy-ish male rather than one used for hate.

It’s seen as more of a compliment than anything else. You’re at least being acknowledged as good-looking lol.

This seems to be a new twist on the Fallacy of Ad Hominem, claim the post was written by an AI. Still the same, it comes from someone who knows they can’t attack the content of the message so they fall back on the only thing they have, attack the messenger.

What content? The paragraphs of tinfoil hat nonsense?

Did you even read the post?
Op was talking about “twink” being used offensively vs it’s actual intent of describing low level players decked out in bgs.

Then we jump to comparing destiny to wow?
Then the last paragraph is basically incoherent.

All this leads to… really bad ai post. Which we’ve been seeing more and more of lately.

This more or less matches my understanding.

In the LGBTQ context, a twink is a young, attractive gay man, usually supported financially by an older, wealthier gay man. In the gaming context a twink is a lower level character supported financially by a higher level character.

No one was accusing your post of being well written.

I mean… if we could figure out what the message actually is, maybe we could attack it. Until then, though… :woman_shrugging:

I used to be a twink. But that was many, many, MANY years ago.

Ok, re-reading the OP. I feel like I’m piecing together what they’re suggesting. Except I hope I’m wrong, because it’s just such nonsense.

They are seemingly suggesting that the wow community’s adoption of the word “twink” into our vernacular caused confusion in more recent times for newer hires and/or AI by giving the impression that the playerbase had a predilection for gayness due to the word’s place in real life gay culture. And so they therefore wrote more gay stories into the game. Or a

As they put it.

Not sure where that fits with the bit about colour pallets though.

Bestie, this is like complaining they don’t know what bear means when you see a bear in game.

Blizz didn’t coin the term, players did.
And why would you think a word cant have more than one meaning?

I used to play a twink who was a bear.

100% this.

I remember hearing that term being used in society when I was in high school. Which was from 98 to 04. I graduated the same year WoW launched.

Ok so make a rational argument against that point. The fact that you bypassed the rational argument and attacked the form of the message suggests that you can’t attack the argument made. That is classic Fallacy of ad Hominem.
