Fair enough. You’re right, i misread that.
If there is no race out of Horde lore that connects with TWW, it because they never developed one. And they certainly have had no problem introducing allied races that did not exist before, introduction. In the end, the lack of such a race is because they did bother to have one.
Bro, please bro, just give us even more lore and screentime, more people will totally like it bro, just give it a chance, bro
I like the Blood Elves, and I like them as part of the Horde, but I do feel like their connection to the Horde is loosening recently, and they are feeling more and more like a neutral race, what with Void Elves being their Alliance counterpart now, and with Midnight promising to reunify the elves, and the Horde as a faction not really feeling like it has much of a presence at all after the Fourth War.
I think the problem is they defined the Horde as the active/aggressive war faction. That is basically all they were at the end of the day. If they are avoiding faction conflict, what are they now? They need to spend time figuring that out and explaining their vision for a Horde after the war is gone.
As for the Kaldorei. I am honestly unsure if they will crop up in midnight or not. It will depend if they mean to reunite the thalassian elves or… All elves. The latter is a much harder thing to justify, though perhaps more doable now that Tyrande has retired from running things. Shandris is a lot more open minded and flexible, and the Shen’dralar are fully integrated into Kaldorei society so…
Not only night elves. Only Trolls get special treatment in this dimension. If a troll gains the favor of Bwonsamdi, no matter what kind of person was in life, he will go to the safe The other side, and I’m not saying it’s bad. I love the idea of gods bending the rules for their followers. I want more of this.
Night elves must become drudis or hunters to get there. Elune doesn’t magically place them in Ardenweald beacause she want it. Elves from organizations like Wardens or priestesses of Elune don’t seem to fit in there.
So if I say that Light lore belongs only to the Draenei because they’re a chosen race of the Na’ru, would you agree with me? Of course not. Blizzard loves writing about Light, that’s why so many races worship it. Each of them has its own interpreting, culture, ideology, and nuances of Light.
Elune lore is closed to night elves only because Blizzard was too lazy to write it in interesting way. Or to write about it at all… Harronir is their first attempt to take back the monopoly on Elune’s lore from the night elves. I want to give them a chance.
I really want this to be true but since BFA Elune has been pushed as the goddess of Life. Maybe Metzen’s return will change this.
Saw the beta spoilers. Once again it’s just alliance plot as usual
Nah i’d rather they keep their monopoly on elune, they can keep their failure god
It is more what are night elves if you take Elune away from them? That is pretty much their only defining feature at this juncture. Even all their racial abilities are blessings from her.
Okay, so you contradict yourself. You say Elune is a break from Light, Void, and Titan, mythology, but now you want her to be the creator of the Naaru. Would you still say there isn’t too much Elune in the game if that happens?
I don’t want to take Elune away from the Night Elves, I just want to see more Elune from the perspective of other races.
The Light is worshiped by Humans/Dwarves/Draenei/Arakkoa/Blood/High Elves, Zandalari and even Tauren (if the theory about An’she=God of Light turns out to be true) and many other races. And many organizations were created in his name.
Elune is worshiped by Night Elves, Furbolgs, Tauren and maybe Lun’alai. Outside of the NE, no group has been as developed as their Light counterparts.
Light is more interesting to a much larger player base than Elune, because many races have a connection with it. Elune is exclusively NE and I think that hurts her image. As we can see from the reluctance associated with her lore in TWW.
I don’t mind if the Night Elves developed without her for a while. If the only characteristic of a race is their goddess, it is not a good sign.
Many times we see members of different pantheons working with different forces. Elune helped create the pillar of creation but that doesn’t make her a Titan, she may have helped create the Na’ru core but that doesn’t make her a being of light.
Okay, you tried to say that there isn’t too much Elune in the game, but now you want Elune to be featured even more. You talk about showing Elune from more races’ perspective, but there’s a reason people are complaining Elune is too heavily featured. Not everyone WANTS Elune to be featured in their race’s religion, or at least to be a main focus of it. Peoplle want An’she, for example. He’s gotten zero attention compared to Elune.
Okay?
I think Elune could have story connections to other playable races, but I think it is way too far into the story to introduce those links now and expect players to feel anything about them.
Elune is the night elf goddess - that’s been one of her main defining features for most of the game’s history. She has always had ties to other species like dryads and keepers as her literal grandchildren, moonkin as her creations, and perhaps a few other species like furbolgs… but even their focus is all about how they relate to the night elves.
The Lun’alai in Zandalar are a mysterious outcast sect and not a core part of the playable Zandalari background or experience. The tauren include Mu’sha (Elune) as a secondary tier in their worship of the Earthmother, and frankly I think that’s the best approach - tying religions together without trying to pretend they are the same religion, or placing one above the other.
I don’t think redefining Elune as ‘oh, she’s a Naaru mother’ is going to suddenly make Naaru fans feel that all Elune lore is now their lore, or make Elune fans feel that now all Naaru lore is their lore. Same with making Elune represent one of the Titan artifacts. Or giving her a sister in the wish version of the Emerald Dream afterlife. Or, I fear, what they’re planning with the Harronir.
I feel like the writing is pushing too hard on the track of ‘you should care about Elune! She’s uh, [scribbles over the script] a vital part of your religion, yeah! Like, she made the gods you worship or something. So she is your lore now!’, when a better approach would be a more laid-back version like Mu’sha, in a theme of ‘Our own deities recognize and (some) respect the moon goddess, and so we will reflect their feelings towards her’.
For example:
- The tauren respect Elune as one eye of the Earthmother - so get the Earthmother involved as their main motivation whenever Elune is mentioned. (And as part of that, show Elune recognizing and caring for the Earthmother in the night elf perspective, and the night elves respecting the tauren’s beliefs towards An’she and the Earthmother even if they disagree on the nature of the moon.)
- Have shaman focus on the water elementals who in turn view the moon as a distant but eternal part of the natural cycle.
- Name a few interactions that specific Loa have had with Elune - bargaining, gifting to/from, arguing, stealing, aligned/misaligned themes, etc. Have any quests relating to Elune be given through some Loa/loa-follower who has had friendlier relationships with her.
I think the key thing to keep in mind is to try to link these religions horizontally - have them relate to each other as more-or-less equals, rather than placing one group atop each other - that’s only going to annoy fans of whatever it is that got squished to force it into a new forced shape.
I’d guess that Elune fatigue comes from how they streamlined her nature/presence in Shadowlands and Dragonflight.
Before, Elune was a mysterious and powerful goddess. Her domain stratified Light, Shadow, Arcane, and Life magics. She was potentially connected to the other druid races like the Tauren. There was a lot they could have done with Elune.
Elune (like many other entities) didn’t fit well into one Wow sphere of magic. Now she is bland and locked into (potentially) being the Winter Queen’s sister.
It falls into the larger reconstruction and rewriting of cosmic entities that modern Wow is doing.
That’s basically how I’d fear other races getting developed if Elune stuff started to get further pushed onto them. I don’t want to be the furbolg.
It’s kinda like one of those new Earthen NPCs that were just added to Thunder Bluff in the PTR talking up runemasters and reverence for the land. Like, great that it’s acknowledged… but why do I have to hear about this from some reskinned dwarf that may as well be seen as closer-connected because they’re literally of the earth themselves? It seems like lip service to play up someone else.
Elune’s champions are more powerful than old gods.
Sit down.
Elune created the night elves in her image.
The light didn’t create draenei.
Yes, they need their memories & identities completely purged — So that they can proudly stand beside loyal Forsaken & Orc souls who were received into Bastion, who too had their memories & racial-identities utterly purged
Tyrande will forget her daughter, husband, Elune and any ties of loyalty to her people – perhaps becoming more fond of a former orc soul Bastion sounds perfect.
Bastion did away with that rule or did you skip out on that bit of Lore?
Lets be real, shes got some time booked in Revendreth for that whole “lmao I’m gonna enjoy watching those kids starve to death” spiel she went on.
Honestly, most “good” WoW figures probably have it coming. Too bad they’re not the PCs and don’t have cachet with the Venthyr.
