There's people like this

screaming at an organized event so the people gathered cant hear a thing the event speaker is saying. this is free speech. yes or no?

/giggles

You’re wrong, it’s had the auto-squelch in place for over a decade.

And we know it’s not. And you can prove it for yourself. Get a group of 4 other people together and report someone and see if they get squelched. Then repeat that a few times. If 95/100 people you do it to are squelched, then you’ve proven yourself right.

Came in 4.0 - Cataclysm

Came in Patch 3.3 - Wrath of the Lich King

Came in Patch 4.3 - Cataclysm

Irrelvant since that just moves players to different instances of an area to protect server stability. There could be 1,000,000 shards but they’re all using the same General, LocalDefense, Trade, etc. chats.

And still you’ve offered no proof that the system is being abused in retail right now. Asmon-whoever asked people to mass report him. They did. No abuse there. You keep referencing a mysterious video yet you haven’t even pasted the link to it or embedded it if its YouTube.

And the squelch is temporary and does not leave a permanent mark on your account’s punishment history. So no, it is not “game breaking”. You obviously must have issues following the rules if your this paranoid about being reported.

It could be far worse than even that.

We do not know how many reports are required to trigger a squelch.

If the number of reports required to trigger a squelch is 10, there could be 100 people who think you are doing nothing wrong and are even conversing with you.

10 people that think you are the scum of the Earth for having the audacity to use /trade in a manner they do not like can squelch you, despite the 100 people with whom you were conversing that believe you did nothing wrong.

so far i’ve been called paranoid, should not be allowed to have children (ha, they are all grown. my daughter manages a shop doing a job i would’ve never expected – automotive (she’s my amazon), my oldest is married looking to adopt (he’s my philosopher) and my middle son is my wonderful neckbeard.), accused of telling various untruths and all because i can be trusted not to vote them into silence.

i’m terrible, i know.

Yo, I accept your surrender.

Yo.

Person B would no longer be seeing person A regardless of whether they were ultimately squelched.

You truly need to become educated on the subject. Your little giggles are the icing on the cake of ignorance.

And yet you insist that players be given the power to conspire to squelch any other player at anytime for every little slight they think they had to suffer, even though they no longer have to see anything that person says once they submit that report.

okay fine. be silenced. lol
and you think i’m being silly. you must hate yourself.

Let me take off my Blizzard hat for a second and put on my Mom/Grandma hat and just give you some pretty simple rules to live by if you want to stay on the right side of the rules. 1. If it’s not fit for polite mixed company, probably best not to be spouting it in an open channel. Things of that nature - my mama always told me weren’t appropriate for polite mixed company are. Sex Politics Religion 2. It’s not that hard to be polite and civil, really - it’s not. 3. Don’t cuss - simple as that. It’s against the rules, always has been - likely always will be. The filter is for the convenience of those that use it, it’s not an excuse to be able to use proscribed language. 4. Lastly, please don’t trot out ‘freedom of speech’ or the term first amendment. I’ll have to go into a whole civics lesson that many may apparently need - but I don’t particularly care to delve into, and most don’t want to hear…again. Thank you.

we already said, several times now, that the issue isn’t that people may discuss inappropriate topics and be squelched but that the feature can and will be abused. it’s infinitely more avoidable to simply ignore or change tabs than it is to become the target of someone who doesnt like you for whatever reason, even if you haven’t said a thing. all i did to get banned one day on the forums was login and say hello lol dont sit there and pretend this isn’t going to be a problem in classic, where everybody knows everybody/

What alternative to the auto-squelch do you suggest Blizzard use to quickly and efficiently eliminate Gold Seller spam from the public chat channels?

Keep in mind, the WoW token will not be available to sell on the AH like it is on Modern WoW. This alone is going to contribute to an increase in Gold Seller activity and if you remove the system that was implemented to quickly disrupt their advertising, it’s going to be an even bigger issue.

hire ythisens back as a gm who handles tickets. win-win. unless the idea doesnt appeal to him, which it may not, i dunno. but he loves blizzard. loved working for them. have you seen/heard the interview he did with esfand? was quite touching and heartwrenching.

Your solution is to hire one person to handle all the Gold Seller spam on all the servers? How do you suppose he’s going to manage that 24 hours a day?

an apprentice perhaps? one takes day shift, the other takes night shift?

I’ll do it and answer every ticket through rhymes.

Where do I sign up?
