The need this community has for there to always be an “us vs. them” thing going on is disheartening.
Riiiiiight.
Who is doing that? I want more GMs. I want them to be there to punish abuse of the reporting system and hand out actual silences to those deserving of such.
But to suggest that they were answering reports within 1-2 hours is abysmally dishonest.
You mean beyond actually working to make public channels less of a joke?
Mention the current POTUS, get my posts flagged as “inappropriate”.
Right-click reporting won’t be abused at all. Nope.
People somehow feel they should have the right to judge and punish others because they are the ones who knows what is right and what isn’t right, while doing this proving they are just as bad or worse.
If your gameplay would suffer so much due to not being able to spout off in the public channels about real life politics then that is pretty sad.
If your worldview is too narrow to be able to handle other viewpoints than your own, and you relish in silencing those other viewpoints, then that is pretty sad. And I imagine if you’re so petty that you’d toxicly abuse a tool that is supposed to be used to fight toxicity, I doubt that said abuse would be strictly relegated to political topics.
But that’s none of my business.
Neckbeard is a state of mind.

Keep pretending it is about opinions. Take your “viewpoints” to reddit.
Let me take off my Blizzard hat for a second and put on my Mom/Grandma hat and just give you some pretty simple rules to live by if you want to stay on the right side of the rules.
- If it’s not fit for polite mixed company, probably best not to be spouting it in an open channel.
Things of that nature - my mama always told me weren’t appropriate for polite mixed company are.
Sex
Politics
Religion
It’s not that hard to be polite and civil, really - it’s not.
Don’t cuss - simple as that. It’s against the rules, always has been - likely always will be. The filter is for the convenience of those that use it, it’s not an excuse to be able to use proscribed language.
Lastly, please don’t trot out ‘freedom of speech’ or the term first amendment. I’ll have to go into a whole civics lesson that many may apparently need - but I don’t particularly care to delve into, and most don’t want to hear…again.

Agreed. Whats shocked me so far is the absolute bone chilling fear these folks have of not being able to spam in public channels though. I mean Ive seen it in real time on private servers, but I didn’t know it meant SO MUCH to them.
They are really scared of right click report. Theres more crying about that here than sharding or loot trading by a humongous margin… It kind of funny seeing so many people running around trying to scare people into supporting them.
“Bbb…bb.b…but what if they target you and mute you for no reason!”
Sounds like the bargaining stage of denial.
“The lady doth protest too much” comes to mind too. Sooo much noise made over this tiny issue. It begins to illuminate that perhaps there’s more hidden under the table here than just worries about “Muh freeze speech”

Well, no. It isnt. That was my experience in vanilla and bc, it got worse in wrath with 4h + and even worse after that. Until the point where it took days.
I mean, if you go back and read my entire post that you quoted from, you’d see that I’m saying it actually isn’t just about opinions. I digress, though. No use arguing with a wall.

And I want them to be there to do the job themself.

You mean this part where you made a blanket statement that you consider reporting people as something “toxic”?
And I imagine if you’re so petty that you’d toxicly abuse a tool that is supposed to be used to fight toxicity, I doubt that said abuse would be strictly relegated to political topics.
Yeah that is some hard hitting truthiness you cobbled together there.
And I want them to be there to do the job themself.
The two are not mutually exclusive.
There is this exact behavior from people who claim to be adults in this forum. The person who this thread is inspired by sits there and does exactly this to anyone that they don’t agree with. Also there will be 14 year old kids on classic regardless of how old it is and let’s be real… teenagers are horrible.
And I’ll bet you dollars to donuts whoever that person was took a long forum vacation. Possibly even a permanent one, if this wasn’t their first offense.
How brave of you to make such an assumption.
When people against auto-mute talk about how it will be abused and won’t be properly reviewed, they get called out on spouting conspiracy without evidence. Say that it’s been in the game for years and not abused yet.
Then people come here and talk about how they have been abused by the system and have had to reach out to support and repeal the ban, because they were guilty until proven innocent.
Then those who support the system come back and say they are sure the person who wrongly reported got banned, now without any evidence.
Whatever fits your agenda? There’s no way to know if the person reporting out of spite faced any account action. But people are abused by it, they do get muted/ banned even on the forums.
Why not just move past the whole issue and remove right click + report from classic and encourage people to make detailed reports from the help window if they need to report something. There’s no reason why this wouldn’t be reasonable unless you plan on making mass reports. Unless you feel like reporting things that don’t warrant further details.
But people are abused by it, they do get muted/ banned even on the forums.
Nobody gets banned unless a blizzard employee hands it down, but hey, keep repeating misinformation and maybe enough people will believe you.
Well call those people snowflakes. They get bullied in RL and game worlds are their chances at revenge.
You can call people whatever you like. They will probably not even see it as you’d likely be squelched already.
Your freedom of speech is not bundled with freedom to have the audience of your choosing.
