There is no significant downside to cross-faction grouping

I think cross-faction grouping should be a thing only in expansions we work together, for an example, it would be amazing in Legion but of course not in the first half of BFA, in the Eternal Palace it could also work.

If they made an intelligent system that follows the theme of the expansions - working together or at war - I could see a system like this being good.

That’s…not what he said?

All the expac-culminating raids, plus a couple more per expac canonically involve both factions participating together, and largely not fighting each other during the conduct of the raid. Trial of the Crusader and Icecrown Citadel stand out as large exceptions where the participants still fought each other at some point.

There is a very big precedent that horde and alliance heroes could group up, knock out an instance together, then rejoin the war as soon as they leave the dungeon.

He said a sentence, obviously one has to consider what he’s implying in the 10 words he said.

I just wonder… Where is the immersion in this?

“Ok, dungeons over. See you on the battlefield, I look forward to slaughtering the fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters of your allies. See ya!”

Can’t be done. Dwarves and Tauren on the same side, it’s too awesome.

There’s no immersion in dungeons to begin with.

It’s just ‘Go go go go" clear it as fast as you can like your life depends on it, dont’ talk to anyone, ignore everything else, and just finish it asap then leave and never talk again.

Those are gameplay mechanics.

So would simply letting cross faction grouping.

It’s just a game mechanic to ease the burden on players.

You can’t leave something like that unaddressed. It has to have a story implication, this is still an RPG.

At this point, it’s long overdue.

I’d be all for playing with my friends who faction changed Horde again.

Alliance and horde group up to take down big bads all the time, it’s already been addressed.

Individual soldiers is not the entire alliance and horde teaming up to deal with a threat.

I’d rather make pieces out of those enemies.

I never want to see a filthy orc or forsaken casually walking through Stormwind. I never want to see a Forsaken in the same group as my Worgen.

There are plenty of downsides to cross-faction play.

Faction merge is a terrible idea that destroys a core philosophy of the game. With that said blizzard is terrible at managing things now so I am sure it will come to pass.

I hate the horde and never want to play with them.

As one unified group? No… Not ever.

I largely lost immersion with regards to the faction war a long time ago. Nothing about the ongoing conflict is believable anymore.

That said, to do things like that is immensely believable. Medieval European Knights would fight against each other one day, go on a Crusade together another, capture one another the next, dine and train together quite cordially while waiting for a ransom payment to be arranged, marry each other’s relatives, then go to war again.

Arab culture is largely this way even now. The biggest enemies will become great friends at a moment’s notice to deal with a mutual enemy, then go back to being enemies.

It seems strange to you because you don’t do any of this, but I assure you it’s not all that strange.

The entire idea is a downside because it kills the soul of the franchise. Its just asnine both gameplay and lore(look at my daughters killer whom is proud to cut her head we must band together!), there are several ways to improve alliance population. Not even blizzard wants it its just people hallucination going on because thye dont like the game. If you want no faction play ESO im gonna quit before doing dgs with a random orc.

It actually still does, if you check reddit…

Agreed. Reducing the restrictions is nice.

Hopefully they’ll remove role restrictions next!

Cool i didn’t maybe you shouldnt play on the largest faction by far.

To elaborate further.

There is no gameplay or mechanical reason to now allow cross-faction play at this point, outside of PvP. And with something like War Mode even that can be addressed.

Example:
Faction Divide dropped. Players of all factions can now play together in Dungeon Finder, LFR, out in the world, ect. This way, we don’t have to deal with issues like the Mythic Raiding race being dominated by one faction or having to deal with one faction having OP pvp racials.

Players who still hold the fires of war in their hearts can turn on War Mode and make the enemy faction hostile. Doing so will also limit your random queues to only pull members of your faction.

Would this be easy to implement? Don’t know I’m not a programmer. But that’s the general idea.

But that isn’t what is being suggested?

It’s just being suggested that allowing cross-faction grouping for PvE reasons has no significant downside, and would only help the player base as a whole.

That isn’t abolishing the faction (Though I’m still not against that, as I personally have grown to detest the stupid faction war, and how much it gets in the way of real issues).
