Significant upsides:
-It allows players to choose their favorite race/faction without being hindered by their friends’ choices
-It increases the available player pool for both factions to group with
-It’s canonically supported by every story where a greater evil threatens both factions so their heroes work together
Agreed.
The only argument against it is “but faction war.” IMO anyone who is truly committed to faction war would have quit the game a long time ago.
In lore, most of the raids were cross faction. The only ones I cannot think on the top of my head, that one side definitely was the one to fight in the raid were in ICC (Gunship, we fight Alliance/Horde) and Zandalar. Besides that, we’ve pretty much always put the axe and sword down and come together to fight a threat.
I mean, after which we pick them up and beat each other up screaming - but you get my point.
Tbh the faction war should have died in WoD. “Oh look we stopped Sargeras from wiping us all out… but that guy over there… lets kill that guy for shiny stuff” its incredibly stupid at this point.
I personally think it ruins the game.
Yeah, no one cares that other factions can group with eachother but still PvP in ESO. It would be better for the game if it happened here too.
Merge the factions.
Turning on warmode by talking to an NPC.
Then the system will flag you either red or blue based on current balance to maintain balance.
You are now ready to wPVP in a more balanced state.
Did you just fix PvP faction balancing?!
I’ve been saying the faction thing should have ended with MoP for years. After Mists, it mostly became this hamfisted story element that more or less hasn’t made any sense since then.
City of heroes had a betrayal or going rogue option. People could start on one faction, complete a wuestline and move to the other faction.
Wow doesnt need a permanent choice like this, but a mercenary temporarily joining another side could work.
It really made no sense why there was any faction conflict in WoD. For all of MoP the Horde could at best stalemate the Alliance. Then we had a civil war where we lost an enormous amount of Kor’kron, which was the brunt of our fighting force. We shouldn’t have the means or motive to challenge the Alliance.
But somehow our military respawns as quickly as the Dothraki after the long night.
you’ve got a point… I hadn’t thought of it from an eso lens. It’s true, grouping can happen cross faction. I think you may have convinced me… at least somewhat.
Goblins and Gnomes in the… SAME GUILD. This needs to happen Blizz. Just think of the possibilities!
I agree. I really hope this cross faction play becomes a thing. It’ll be good for the game.
Are we playing same game? Most of it go smooth. Then the trolls will take over. That were they start doing stuff to ruin it for everyone.
There is a difference between working together to over come a world ending threat and sitting around sharing a beer with the group that burned down your homes and murdered a civilian population.
Why do I want to be flagged on the blue side when Im a horde player? No thank you
This also needs to happen so the star crossed lovers can stop hiding who they are!
I hope Blizzard does what FFXIV did and deletes Azeroth at the end of this expac and begin anew with no nonsense like factions. Factions worked for a few expansions but now it’s getting ridiculous where it is impacting the story a lot.
A lot of cool stuff could be done with factions like civic/political unrest within a faction or philosophical concepts could be explored but knowing Blizzard and their caliber at story telling i am glad they avoid these complex topics.
Cross-faction instancing doesn’t bother me. In fact I’m behind it.
Cross-faction world does bother me. Too many quests catered towards their respective faction. I really don’t want any of my Horde characters coming into contact with Sky-admiral Rogers. That’s just one example.
