The WrA FFXIV Thread: WILD. FREAKS

nin main here

i think it’s more like a net gain 1 really, the raiju 2-parter uses the same button like a pvp combo macro so you can just slot that in where you put shadow fang, and kamaitachi somewhere where assassination used to be

ideally you can just put the huton refresh somewhere where you can hit it when you need it

there’s some jank that the balance discord has been arguing about for the past two days regarding phantom kamaitachi not being affected by the bunshin potency gain and also the raiju combo dropping if you do literally any other GCD despite being buff-based so hopefully stuff gets clearer down the line
the main problem being ninjas usually popping raiton when they have to disconnect from melee due to mechanics but losing the big potency raiju combo if they have to stay at range for an extended period of time

Oh, I didn’t know the Raiton combo used a single button. Sweet!

If you have to disconnect for a long time, though, it’s basically just back to where we were anyway. Throw down a Raiton or two and wait until you can close in again. At least with this new combo, we have the option of reengaging with a gap closer/high potency combo.

I also believe they extended the time between combos to 30 seconds before they fall off, so that’s a lot more flexibility.

i appreciate them folding the 1-2-3 gunbreaker combo into one button

the better question is why doesnt every melee class have that

The devs consider hitting multiple GCD combos and weaving OGCDs in between them to be core to the DPS experience and where much of their challenge comes from. It’s why they have the most combos and OGCDs.

But Gunbreaker is a tank. All the tanks have pretty simple combos because they’re expected to tank first and DPS second. But Gunbreaker has several combos and OGCDs, moreso than other tanks, which makes it a lot more complicated to play. Turning it’s extra combos into one button brings it back in line with the simpler combos of other tanks. It also frees up buttons for Tank related abilities.

In PvP, I think the reasoning for single button combos is that they want the REAL difference between a good/bad PvP’er is a matter of stuff like timing, teamwork, positioning, knowing when/where to engage, and a lot of other second to second decisions that aren’t tied to perfectly executing a combo. Not only are rotations simplified, but level/gear normalized.

i would honestly hate it if they universally folded the 1-2-3 combos into one button

it’s fine in certain instances like the GNB change but it’s better used sparingly because pressing 3 buttons has a different cadence and feel for me than repeatedly pressing 1

aye that’s fair, and didn’t think you would peek into some of the story about that. tbf i thought i went back in time over how the main area you appeared in looked strikingly similar to the one you just left… And then everything else being a twisted version to what you knew in ARR I was rather amused by, oh and the emotional scaring, cant forget that.

this! also to add to it, in ff14 light and dark arn’t necessarily 'Teh EBIL/GUD energies of the world but just about ‘how you use them’. there’s several optional dungeons that illustrate that like amdapor or if your REEEELY pushing it void ark. heck even some of the magic you see before then gives you a sense of ‘oh yeah these are kind of wild and not even the big main thing of the world’ think ShB even straight up tells you how elements ‘do be like that’ and some rather… ‘interesting revelations’.

Hotbars have never really been an issue for me in any mmo honestly. I do a combination of clicking skills and keybinding them, not sure how common that is though. Normally have the most common skills on main numbers, then have the burst and not as often used skills on separate hotbars which I’ll click.

As a Mch main, I get a replace ability (spread shot turns into a shot gun) and a new ability, the chainsaw.

I use controller for ff14 because I’m a sane person. But joke aside, As looking at my controller I have 1-2 places chainsaw ability can go without it being a strain on my fingers. I hope it has a longer cd so I’m not double tapping triggers all the time. Because if it short, it going feel weird as said.

DnC alt. Hard to say. It looks smoother and faster to play. But I forgot what they even did. lol

Also I dislike of ff14 is how many spells you have as a job. I sort like the small amount WoW has (well on Hunter/Bm).

chainsaw’s got a minute CD last i saw so ya good, as of media tour it’s got the same potency as drill and air anchor so you basically just have another big button

DNC got another button after technical finish which also applies standard finish while doing a good chunk of damage
their 1-2/aoe1-2 combo procs are now shared among both the melee and ranged combo so you can choose which one you do (
improvisation changed to pure support + shielding, no longer increases espirit

I was not expecting the Carpenter job story finale! Was probably very emotionally resonant for anyone following the Ala Mhigan or Gridanian stories closely, or who have any experience living as an immigrant.

I wish it had a little more buildup though, the last 3 quests leading up to it just involved running around Yanxia helping fix an energetic catgirl’s blunders (though I admit the catgirl in question was very likeable)

when it comes to the Light Being Evil thing id argue theres a core difference in the way the two games do it

in ff14 its shown that the primordial element of light is just a source of energy that will destroy the balance of aether within ones body the same that any other element or primal would and the flood of light is just another calamity instead of being a unique evil

in wow the light is ‘evil’ because danuser and his band of dipsharts are chomping at the bit for the right to say the draenei deserved it

i think i like the ff14 depiction better

Agreed. The Light of FF14 comes across as a neutral power that any can draw upon for their magics. There’s no inherent morality attached to it outside of Hydaelin.

WoW, meanwhile, went from “The Light is good and the Void/Shadow is evil” to “mOrAlLy GrAy” elements, with overbad of each being presented more for the shock value than actually built up to anything.

We’re in agreement that WoW handled the “light is suddenly ebil” story very badly.

I think it was also a rather sudden shift in FF14, compared to how the light and void was depicted in ARR. I mean, several ARR dungeons are all about how dealing with the horrifying things the voidsent do. Meanwhile, the climactic battle against Ultima Weapon has Hydaelen chanting “IF YOU WOULD PREVAIL, LOOK TO THE LIGHT” at us while shielding us from harm and helping us conjure a holy blade of light to save the day.

Anyone who hasn’t done the white mage quests or any of the (optional) Amdapoor stuff might not even be aware that overusing light magic is harmful to the environment, similar to anyone in WoW who skipped Legion and didn’t do the Mag’har recruitment quests.

That is, until the Warriors of Darkness storyline in the MSQ. I’ll grant that this was excellent and necessary foreshadowing for what would happen in Shadowbringers and it was very impressive that it seems to have been added so many years before Shadowbringers came out. Its clear the writers of FF14 have a solid plan for their story, at least.

Finally started Shadowbringers the other day. Still early on, just did the first dungeon, which was AMAZING by the way - the music was so good and the environment and just all of it. Also I really love Zenos as a character. And Gaius. And Varis. I just freaking love Garlemald. They are so bad but they also kinda are pitiable in a way because they can’t wield magic. I’m excited to be on the best expansion, and it’s looking like I might finish in time, or at least be closely behind the herd, without rushing it too much.

Hey, does that robot in the Endwalker Benchmark trailer (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=IkC1r0eJZ-c) look kinda like Omega from the Stormblood raid series?

Well they did say to be familiar with that raid series so I think he coming back.
