The world is making me sad

Climate change has become worse.

I have to say I’m right there with you. There are times when I watch the news or hear of things happening these days and I hear Beethoven’s 7th, 2nd movement in my head and can’t help but think of that scene in X-Men Apocalypse, but instead of ‘No more superpowers’, the conclusion is some politician coldly saying ‘No more freedom’. I can’t even bear to log into my Facebook account anymore. I’ve deleted my Twitter account. I can barely get through my Youtube news feed without just turning it off. The world these days is depressing.

Yea it been over a year of non stop hate and corona virus. You are not the only one at the end.

To feel better just walk around today saying endure in your best Michael Cain voice.

I feel great. Humanity gets what it’s deserves. Intelligence was a mistake, nature should remove us all.

Good morning nihilism, how are you?

  1. As others have mentioned, the world has always been on fire. But the good news is: over the long arc of history, things overall, generally, globally, have improved (eg, slavery no longer prevalent, women’s/children’s rights, medical care - yes, even with the current pandemic). Humanity is an emotional, short-sighted work-in-progress, whose betterment comes in increments generally exceeding human lifespans.

  2. Limit your daily intake of bad news. And also, upsetting discussions.

  3. Make plans for something positive in your life, something to look forward to, even if minor.

  4. Find something inspirational to read (eg, Footprints in the Sand, Serenity Prayer).

FWIW: my opinion of humanity has never been lower than currently (I’ve had to scrap out a trough in the bottom of the proverbial barrel). But as a young mother said some years ago, after her 4yr old daughter was killed in a hit-and-run, and asked by a reporter how do you face each day: the mother said, “You never know how strong you can be until being strong is your only choice.”

Last night I was having this problem. Everything that’s going on right now has left me feeling small, meaningless and sick to my stomach. If you have ever been into jogging, then I suggest that. I brought my dogs for a nice long jog and felt much better after.

Yeah. But it’s a little bit more than that. It feels like the whole world is dancing on the edge of a razor blade just waiting to fall off. Like society is doing a solo synchronized ballet while circling the drain. Fourth turning stuff.

Sadly many people, including mental health professionals, don’t seem to make the connection between the environment we live in and it’s negative effects on mental health, instead choosing to place the blame on chemical imbalances, or genetic predispositions.

While I find it a bit much the other way, once in a while to get some perspective I try:
the site happynews(dot)com

The trick is to find a balance. Don’t immerse yourself too much in the constant. when I find myself too overwhelmed by the bad, I turn it off for a day or two. I often find that a) nothing much has changed in that time and b) I’m not feeling so negative because I focused that time on other things.

This reminds me of a quote:

“When times get tough, suck it the hell up and stop complaining”

I find this quote very motivational

Problem is, with this mentality nothing changes, even the things that desperately need to change until they reach a critical mass with potentially devastating results. Sometimes things make you feel bad because they are bad and they need to be addressed.

try a different news source https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7drK5-sMns

It is a lot to take in. There is some beautiful in all that sadness though if you look.

I think younger people are being raised into a culture that are training them to see fault in everything.
Yes some of its needs to be addressed but I also think a lot of it is simply self created issues that get pushed out to the rest of us through social media creating a lot of unnecessary unhappiness.

Sorry, if I helped an old grandma cross the road, that wouldn’t sell papers and make $$$ sorry.

Buy the chocolate with the booze inside. Every time Blizzard does something dumb have one. It will make you feel better. (Note: limit yourself to ten a day no matter what Blizzard does. For safety!)

truth is the news you watch only tell you what they want you to hear go to another country news and look at yours its diffrent news

youre not depressed, youre seeing the worlds stupidity for what it is.
