The war within is formulaic and boring

It has a better narrative hook than DF, but that’s kind of a low bar. I’m enjoying it so far, and someone on the writing team was deep into the hollow-earth conspiracies. Even named an earthen character Agartha.

I too enjoy crackpot nonsense.

Quite easily actually. Been playing on and off since the game has been released and I normally went through the campaign/explored the map/dabbled in PVP and then called it a day.

My achievements are actually quite low for how long I’ve been playing, but the formula just hasn’t changed and the gameplay isn’t that great. This is compounded by button bloat and NPCs hijacking your game by forcing you to listen to their nonsense. The worst for this by far was shadowlands and I had a similar situation to this one where I just quit immediately upon trying out the expansion.

The WoW story has been a horrible mess for so long, i’m surprised anyone still cares or gets disappointed by it anymore.

I enjoyed Isle of Dorn and the VERY end of Ringing Deeps was ok. The kobold thing should have been converted to an optional quest - that entire piece felt like a joke more than a serious campaign quest. Feels like they cut a lot out of ringing deeps. They outline a bunch of problems and we spend like 40% of the zone dealing with comedic relief kobolds…

So far Hollowfall, which was my most anticipated zone, is just ok.

No, we aren’t. At the time, and since, it was virtually unanimous that Castle Nathria and the first patch arc were actually great pieces of story. If you skipped that and played after where you jumped right into Sanctum of Junk or Zereith “YOU CAN WALK ON WATER” I’m sorry. The expansion definitely had a lot of problems PvE wise but the first patch story was fine and Castle Nathria is a top 10 raid ever - and nothing SINCE has come close.

Some serious irony here. The kobolds was one of the parts I liked.

The Faerin and Arathi part is really making the lore nerd part of me itch. I thought it was going to be a long lost expedition that grew over centuries into its own unique society, something akin to the Seanchan in the WOT saga. Not Gilligan’s island with glaring continuity issues.

The last line of questing that started off w a bang and kept me interested was in WoD. Too bad the rest of that expansion fizzled out

IK,R? But me, I do, both.

So much so, that I just cancelled my sub. i didn’t want Dragonflight 2 or Shadowlands 3, but that’s what I got.

Yeah I’m level eighty and still trying to finish the campaign. This is the least enjoyable leveling experience I’ve had in my decade and a half of playing wow. And if it weren’t required to open adventure mode I wouldn’t be doing it at all. I don’t care about kobolds enough to quest for them. These arathi but not arathi people might as well call themselves “typical azeroth humans, the underground version”. Xalatath isn’t suddenly scary just because she laughs all the time now. Wasn’t long ago she was begging me to save her life after all. Earthen are rock robots and are as interesting as actual rocks.

How do you improve an already launched story?

Frankly I think the story died when the devs claimed Sylvanas burned down the new world tree at the beginning of Battle for Azeroth.

Or maybe the story died when the devs retconned the lore behind the Old Gods, the Titans and the Burning Legion for Legion.

Wrath of the Lich King was basically the end of the lore setup from WC3 so everything after that was made by a group with a different idea about the story they wanted to tell.

And he hates books and reading!

I think they missed an opportunity with hallowfall and developing a mega dungeon in the zone. Could’ve made that “last mage” questline around him discovering a hidden cavern with deathly influence yadda yadda light following necromancers. Or maybe he staged his own death, after he made crime investigators get locked in his spells.

Luckily its the first line of quests and we have more in the fall so I’m glad there are potential loose ends that can be expanded on… given the vast amount of different magics we’ve seen having influence underground I’d be surprised if blizz doesn’t have the story branch in every which way direction.

Maybe they all trace back to the void, sort of like how pandaland traced to the sha, but seeing how light, arcane, death and nature all interact to the void will be nice

Then don’t play it. :point_right:t2: :door: :wave:t2:

War Within feels like “WoW on the cheap”.

The famous 17k achievment guy that never stepped sinto the game

This, After the opening quest line I was really hoping warcraft got its “soul” back. but these quests, and dialog are so toned down. Like this is a war, where is the warfare? Also I’m leveling so fast it feels like I’m blitzing through these zones…

I don’t think anyone at blizzard currently realizes what made the earlier expansions and older warcraft stuff work. Sad times we live in.

Yeah… imagine you copy the exact same race for the THIRD time and try to sell it as a new race. It hardly gets any cheaper.

Couldn’t agree more. And I say this with a heavy heart.

just launched the game in the hopes of finding some will to play before my last few hours of sub expire and… there I stood, staring at my character for 2 minutes straight, then altf4’ed.

I grew tired of world of friendship, uninteresting foes, allies and enemies I can’t relate to, and a life lesson being forced every second quest.

Sounds like you should probably play a different game that interests you more.

Yup, what you do, a lot of it ends up being world quests :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
