The war within is formulaic and boring

I’m only at 75. But this expansion is the most bland we’ve had in a long time. The whole lot feels like playing Zaralek Caverns from DF. The stories are boring. The villain is very generic. Sure the scenery and music are great. But they usually are.

I actually wrote a longpost about the change in tone both visually and narratively here:

You might like it.

It’s a good post, unfortunately heavier themes don’t sell as well in the modern market, so they’ll never return to them. All anyone cares about now is taking ‘cute’ screenshots and making memes of their silly characters with the silly npc’s doing mundane things.

Yeah the golden age of metalhead fantasy is pretty much over as much as I hate to admit it.
Died around 2010 with the surprise success of shows like Adventure Time and Steven Universe with Teen/Adult audiences I think.

WoD very much feels like a last gasp attempt at preserving it but unfortunately that expansion was so burdened with other storytelling and mechanical problems that we didn’t see what it was trying to do.

I sat down where I was, logged out and unsubbed.

This is it, too. I’ve had a few books published back in the early 00s and 10s, and it has absolutely changed in the fantasy writing market too. BookTok did a lot of it, so now if you aren’t writing generic Fae Court Romance #203094, you’re gonna have a hard time marketing your stuff.

The good news is, eventually people will get tired of that, too. Just a matter of if WoW survives long enough for the pendulum to swing back or not.

I’m going take all the candles

It does seem rather like a cobbled together version of previous expansions.

Feels incredibly boring so far. Story is not there. No dread or threat. The Jailer was more menacing. Also we have another full on femdom expansion. The anti male trope is getting old, been going on since BFA. I’m not even shocked at the DEI hire in Faerin but she is quite laughable and the pandering is on full display. Also she is named Lothar. I know tv commercials can show a family with 4 different races but I didn’t expect it in WoW. Stop checking DEI boxes and make quality content. Most of us don’t want real world BS in our game. We play WoW to escape the noise.

ur mom is formulaic and boring

my big gripe is why they yeeted xalatath not even before the season started

The main campaign may be a bit stiff but I’m liking the non story related quests, recently completed one with a trio of explorers, got a few smirks out of me.

Yeah, I kinda just don’t wanna play anymore. I think about other games when I play like all the time now.

I just feel super bored with the classes and the story is, IMO, bland and without good characters. It took me a bit to arrive here but: I think Warcraft needs some of it’s old masculinity and political intrigue back because it’s 100% starting to feel like a bad mobile game plotwise.

I mean think about this: the Arthas vs Illidan duel that spiked the franchise popularity would never be allowed to be created anymore. That’s how you know the story is in a zombie state, when it’s greatest strengths are now fully off the docket. Can you imagine ever getting a “Succeeding you, father” moment again?

To gameplay, hero talents were kind of lame, a lot of them are worse than normal talents and maybe its just me but Delves so far seem like a waste of development time as right now they’re all just boring scenarios and single player quests.

I think I need something to change before if I play again. Story needs to get its soul back or the gameplay needs to see some real big changes. If it doesn’t happen, oh well, WC2 thru Legion is a hell of a 20 year run for my tastes.

nope, I’m absolutely loving it. Every story in it is connects to older xpacs/lore, the cohesive underlying themes are about personal freedom to choose, you’re helping different races to find their freedom and happiness. I actually care about beating the baddies.
And whoever animated the mudskippers, I adore them.

idk if this is relevant to anyone here, but I’ve noticed throughout my life that if you come into any experience with expectations (esp media like shows, movies, games), you set yourself up for disappointment. Expectations ruin experiences. Try to just enjoy it for what it is and if you still cant, then do something you do enjoy <3

Is it though?

And that comment shows your views are worthless and your complaints vacuous.

Doesn’t have to be though, should feel like an adventure like when the game came out.

Part of the problem is probably just the robotic mannerisms of the Earthen and the generally nondescript buildings. It just feels monotone in tone and appearance, like everything is mechanically manufactured (which it technically is for the Earthen).

The city Councilman secretly be a mafioso type crime boss and the theatre troupe were the only thing that really stood out for the Earthen up to halfway through Ringing Deeps barring a very touching side quest here or there.

It improved a good deal with the Arathi and the chess and even a little with the Nerubians, both feel like they had slightly more in personality going for them… even if I revile the spiders.

Name seems appropriate :stuck_out_tongue:
