I find that very disappointing too.
I’d be fine if it was just for release, that’d be understandable.
Continuing to ignore things played have been asking for years for feels bad.
Especially when it’s things that would go over very well
A team dedicated to this kind of stuff would be fantastic.
I’m getting real tired of waiting years upon years just for things that should have been added to the game already.
They say they want to let players play the way they want to, but then don’t add the things we’ve been requesting for us to do so.
It has me absolutely disheartened. I’ve had plenty of ups and downs with the game over the years, but a threshold has been crossed for me.
It’s not just ogres.
There have been so many neat things over the past few years like Allied Races, Heritage Armor, the new customization system, and more, that start out really exciting, but then never get finished or expanded upon.
I have no reason to doubt the answers we get that the devs have the intent to get back around to them, but the promise that they’ll be expanded when the time is right is starting to become like the new “soon”.
I can’t think of a time in which the time has been right to come back to any of these things. The closest I can think of was Demon Hunter, but that was retroactive, and even that was almost 10 whole years from the first time the time was right.
Being told that a feature will be expanded upon when the time is right is not a comfort when that has meant a decade before. It’s not a comfort when we’re being told before a new expansion is even out that the entire expansion won’t see an expansion of a popular feature.
I can be patient, but there’s a problem if a new, unfinished feature is added instead of finishing a previous one each time. At that rate, the backlog will fill faster than it empties and become increasingly difficult to address.
If I had it 100% confirmed for me that ogres would absolutely become playable in the expansion after Dragonflight, I would happily wait. The problem is that these things never actually do seem to come back around, and one expansion quickly turns to two. Two to three. And each expansion is a two year time block, so that time adds up fast.
Exactly. I’m right there with you.
There’s tons of races we should be able to play as already.
The more variety, the better.
it’s like this last expansion and necromancer. It’d have been a perfect time to introduce it as a class and work it into the story. They’re featured in the intro quest area that was added and more later on in Maldraxxus…but nope.
More allied races and such would be great and players would love it.
Can always add side stories to introduce stuff at any time, it doesn’t have to be center.
BFA had the whole mechagon addition and would have been a great time for a tinker class. Nope.
That’s a good point. There’s a bit of an irony in that one of the other things I’ve heard the community asking about for a long time is for the game to have more side plots: Ways to show what other characters are up to or fleshing out a race even when they aren’t the focus of the main plot.
That’s the perfect way to kill two birds with one stone. The Heritage Armor quests are a good opportunity for this sort of thing, but instead it’s backward. Instead of being something evergreen about a race that can be explored at any time, the entire thing has to wait until the main plot lines up with it.
It’s not like there’s a danger in running out of things to add and needing to stretch selling points out forever. Dracthyr are a good example of something new that can always be added even in the unlikely event that it seems like we’ve ran out.
Also, it’s not like that means we’ll never be sated either. To be perfectly honest, it is something I’ve worried about before, but Total Warhammer III dispelled that notion for me. I could never get into the tabletop game, so I’d been waiting since 2006 to get a chance to play the Warhammer ogres.
Even with all the issues the game had at launch, I was not only having so much fun playing the ogres, but everything else became so much more exciting because I finally had what I wanted and everything else became a fun bonus.
It’s funny that people often say things are done to increase played time, but if that was true, wouldn’t they be adding things we want?
I’ve not played a whole lot of WoW lately, instead I’ve been off playing other games.
If the races I wanted to play were added, I’d be leveling those up.
There’s a lot of them that really should be added.
That’s why I keep saying there should be a team dedicated to it.
I’d love to see more questlines like the heritage quests of the allied race intros and such.
Stuff that tells a cool story but doesn’t have to be part of the main storylines.
While looking at Dracthyr related videos, I noticed something interesting at one showing the character creation screen in the Dragonflight alpha.
You can see it in this video at roughly the 1:00 mark:
Notice the placement of the Dracthyr mugshot on both sides? You’ll see they were added to the bottom of the column that had more races as opposed to the one with fewer races.
Assuming that the Dracthyr mugshots stay in the same place on release, then there is room for three more races on the other column before either column would need to be expanded or a third column of playable races would need to be made. It’s an interesting observation, isn’t it?
I’m sure new playable races will continue to get added to the game overtime, but part of me is hoping that we could see some races people have been requesting for quite some time. Especially if Blizzard has been heavily considering feedback in general as of late. Of course, this is likely wishful thinking and it would be awhile before we see what the next playable race or races would be, but you never know.
I already know some races I’d love to see on that character creation screen. Especially on the Horde side!
I actually didn’t think about keeping core and allied races separate. If we get more core races in the future, I wonder if that column would get extended more or if they’d have another column separate from the allied races.
I suppose a lot also depends if the current allied races eventually get unlocked for everyone as time passes. I imagine new ones would still need to be unlocked, but older ones could be made available since it would make some sense with those races comfortably part of their respective factions by now.
Seeing as Dracthyr would be considered a core race, I assume Ogres as a core race could still be likely. They could still go the allied race route also, with the MU and AU Stonemaul Clans becoming full members in the process (and Dunemaul Clan if possible) similar to the Dark Iron Dwarves becoming full members of the Alliance in their unlock scenario. I’m sure we’ll still see the allied race system utilized for some races, and it’ll be interesting to see how it is handled in various ways.
Whatever the case, I’m happy that there is plenty of room on that character creation screen for races people want. As well as the placement of races on there able to be reorganized and expanded as needed.
I wouldn’t read anything about the race selection screen ever. It’s a simple UI overlaid on a background that can be changed with minimal work. There’s really no need for them to plan ahead and leave space.
That being said, hurry the hell up with Ogres blizz!
wouldn’t really be much confusion as some of the allied races being nightborne and night elves are just 2 sides of the same elf 2 different cultures just the same race pretty much, they could make the draenei and lightforged draenei into one race but you’d have complaints about the racials, i for one don’t care about the racials i just want race individuality without it being a elf copy paste for the unteentith time already
I finally got Kovork Kostume just as my free time is about to run out (one of the longest grinds I’ve ever done for something that’s supposedly not even that rare). It’s great that it’s a transformation that actually lets you do things like fight and mount. Only being able to do it for ten minutes every hour is a huge drawback though. Thinking about using it on a Kul Tiran just so I still feel ogrish in the downtime. It’s by no means a replacement for actually playable ogres with their own customization and place in the world, but I’m sort of excited about the potential of the toy.
Problem is I’m not usually so good about making my own fun. I guess if we ever do that ogre march it’ll be easier for me to participate at least.
I’m happy you finally got that item. I know you’ve been farming it for a long time.
If it helps you feel better, I’m almost at 4,000 attempts of getting the Son of Galleon mount, rotating between 40+ characters each week. They weren’t kidding about that 0.02% drop rate. < - <
The march idea is something I’d still love to do. RL unfortunately has been unpredictable to really be able to plan out in-game events. I occasionally mention the idea to see if there is any interest in it. It’s something that could be possible when I’m able to schedule something, though I sadly don’t know when that is.
If I ever get to a point where I can actually plan it out at a certain time, I’ll be sure to post here to see who all would be interested in it. In the meantime, I’ll continue to hope that one day, we’ll be able to march around Orgrimmar as real Ogre characters.
Thanks. Early on I was trying to get a rare mount at the same time and moving back and forth between them was pretty annoying. I still haven’t found that mount, but I’ve mostly given up on it now and only checking when I’m in the area, as I wanted it for my ogre but I’ve come to realize I probably wouldn’t actually use it on an ogre in the long run anyway.
Really low drop rates don’t get along with me very well. I only started fighting Kovork because his Kostume wasn’t supposed to have one based on my initial research. Once it seemed it was going to give me trouble I initially took a break because I figured that once I got playable ogres it wouldn’t matter anyway. I would say another two years minimum before playable ogres motivated me to try again, but mostly it was just that I didn’t really want to commit to anything else right now so logging in to kill a boss every once and awhile wasn’t a big deal compared to catching a bunch of alts up.
As for the march, I totally understand. I think it might have been around the time you initially thought you might do it that I myself started having some extremely crazy things happening in real life. I’d still really like to do it, I just hope I’m paying attention and don’t miss it if we manage to get it scheduled.
