They are going to have ogre druids and skar necromancers. I am so looking forward to that game now.
Their Ogres seem to be similar to how Everquest 2 Ogres are, in that theyāre brutal and intelligent. In the Everquest series, Ogres were like that before and would invade and conquer other lands in the name of Rallos Zek, the god of war. However, when they started invading the planes of the gods, the gods went āNopeā and cursed them into being the dumb beings you see them as in Everquest 1. In Everquest 2ās timeline, that curse got lifted when the gods abandoned the mortal world because mortals would invade their planes to kill them and the denizens there for loot, more or less.
I can see the appeal of that type of Ogre, though I do like the big and dumb variant, myself. Thatās just how I see my Ogre character for the most part. Itās just a fun type of character to play as. Nothing wrong with the other type of Ogre, of course. Itās just my own personal preference.
As for the Skar, they have a cool design, though it isnāt quite as appealing to me. Iām not sure what theyāre suppose to be, but I would hope that they wouldnāt be a substitute for a lizardman race in that game (they certainly arenāt anything like one to me). On the bright side, if that game does well, maybe weāll see expansions with new races in the future, and potentially weād see a lizardman race in the future.
I know Pantheon has been in development for a long time, so I donāt know when itāll come out. That said, I hope they see success, as competition is good and, in theory, would cause other MMOās to strive to be better as a resultā¦at least, I would hope so.
Itās something Iāll likely check out at some point whenever it launches, though as with any new MMO I would keep expectations tempered. I may be more inclined to check it out if WoW continues in a direction I donāt personally care for, but as I said before, Iād prefer for it to get better as opposed to crumbling. Weāll see what the future holds, I guess.
Dream big, Ogre fans!
I like both types of ogres. I like the dumb, strong version and the smart, cunning, inclined to use magic, two-headed type. Of course, I can see a two-headed dumb brute that argues with himself and just engages over said argument only to have both heads stop arguing long enough to kill anyone stupid enough to get between the two, lol.
I didnāt take the Skar to be a lizardman replacement just possibly a new race never seen before. I donāt know anything about that game so not even sure if lizardmen are even part of that world or not but if so one would hope to see a race rarely used in games as playable in the future.
I would hope that any MMO that comes out in this day and age would know to include future playable races since that is something most gamers Iāve talked with, played with or have read on game forums like. WoW was at least adding new races so that offset the terrible state of the game a little, at least for me, but now they seemed to have abandoned them for right now.
Like I said before āWoW has removed everything Iāve ever enjoyed about WoW and it is now a totally different game and not enjoyable to me.ā. My sub is up in about 11 days but I am not really playing it anymore, not even to just do a daily covenant quest. I hate letting a sub just burn but I just donāt like most things about WoW now. Wonder how many other WoW players have left to find other games because they just keep breaking the game instead of fixing it.
I am now playing ESO and rather enjoying it. Only other Elder Scrolls game Iāve played was Oblivion and I enjoyed that. I am enjoying the different little stories they have. So far they are all voiced which is one of those things I love with story content and I have listened through most of them. I think Iāve played something like 20 hours and my highest toon is only lvl 9. But I donāt feel rushed to level like in WoW and so am just enjoying the adventure which is great.
And the Dunmer, aka Dark Elves, remind me so much of Kain from Soulreaver series or even a little bit of what I picture Sanālayn would be like. They have red eye options, which I chose, and they have a kind of cockiness that would fit them. This one Dunmer named Ashur so has the Sanālayn thing down but maybe a slightly less conceited attitude but still rather conceited at that, lol. And I made my Dunmer look like the vampire elf I drew which makes her even more special to me. Now if I could just get the vampire virus she would be just missing her outfit.
To each their own.
Playable ogres.
One of the things Iāve grumbled about with regards to Horde Ogre clans is how forgotten theyāve become. This includes utilizing them in ways that would make some sense, given that weāve dealt with many world-ending threats as time goes on.
I wanted to look at a few events that happened since we last saw anything to do with the Horde Ogre clans. In this case, it was the Stonemaul Emissary in MoP when we last saw anything to do with them. Since then weāve had some of the following happen:
The Siege of Orgrimmar
Seems odd that the Horde never really thought to get the MU Stonemaul Ogres involved in this, especially since the Stonemaul owe a lot to the Horde. Moreso since having Ogre soldiers wouldāve likely helped a lot, granted it might be confusing to the Horde Ogres on who to bash at times I suppose.
I would say that the Stonemaul would be happy to assist the Horde and I have little doubt they wouldāve supported Garrosh at all, especially since he wouldāve looked down upon them. I donāt really see the Stonemaul on Garroshās side at all.
Iām also guessing Megs Dreadshredder is busy doing whatever with the Dunemaul, but it wouldāve earned some major brownie points with the Horde to help them in this siege.
The Legion in general
In this case, I imagine the MU Stonemaul wouldāve been useful soldiers against the Legion, though they could have stayed to help protect territory. After all, the Legion was assaulting different parts of Azeroth, so it couldāve helped to have Dustwallow Marsh covered just in case. I donāt believe they assaulted that area or Feralas if I recall correctly, though I wasnāt really active much doing the assault events.
Speaking of, the Legion did try to kidnap the Dunemaul forā¦reasons. So they did at least attack from Tanaris. Afterwards, I assume Megs just utilized them forā¦whatever she has them doing for her. A running theme youāll see when I talk about the Dunemaul.
BfAās War and Nāzoth in general
This is the biggest missed opportunity to me and something I wonāt understand how the Horde didnāt think to utilize any of the Horde Ogre clans, even gaining a third one clan in the ranks and doing nothinf with them.
The MU Stonemaul were completely absent. Not an Ogre soldier in sight. This is also odd since theyāre shipwrights, who did build their own ships and sailed to Kalimdor from the Eastern Kingdoms, and would also be good to have in combat in general.
The AU Stonemaul Clan joined here, standing with the Magāhar while being inducted into the Horde, and then they, as I lovingly put it, disappeared into fat air. They didnāt appear at all, even with the other Draenor denizens used in some of the world quests. Who knows what happened? I see no reason why they wouldāve left and not wanted to join the Horde, as it wasnāt like they had anywhere to go. Not to mention being better off being part of the Horde. All I can think of is that they went to join with the MU Stonemaul Clan.
As for the Dunemaul, the same thing applies here in that Megs Dreadshredder likely is using them somewhere to do things for her. A shame as getting some Dunemaul soldiers to help out wouldāve gained some really big brownie points for her and also would get the Dunemaul officially recognized as part of the Horde.
Andā¦thatās it really. None of the Horde Ogre clans got used at all during BfA for anything. Not for the war. Not against Nāzoth. Nothing. Even if they wouldnāt have become an allied race, which of course Iād grumble some, at least they wouldnāt have been forgotten and had some role in BfA. Instead, the Horde bends time and space to force AU Orcs into helping fighting this war for them as opposed of getting all members and allies involved firstā¦this will always boggle my mind in terms of logic.
For Shadowlands, we donāt know what is going to happen during the expansion, but Azeroth is suppose to be flooding with undead that is causing destruction and mayhem across the world (of Warcraft!) I would guess all three Ogre clans are helping fighting undead off in different territories at this point, which I will admit would give them something to doā¦if the undead threat was shown in-game. For the most part, it hasnāt.
Much as I do grumble, I do hope that the Horde will remember that they have three Ogre clans within their ranks. One of which, the MU Stonemaul, owe the Horde several favors. Iām sure something could be worked out with them assisting with something. I suspect there will be many more world-ending threats in the future, so maybe they can help out then. Who knows?
Though I will say getting Ogres on the Horde side of that character creation screen to adventure for glory in the name of the Horde would be the best thing they can do. Still hope for that being a reality someday!

One of the suggestions I usually see regarding playable Ogres is that the male Kul Tiran model could be utilized in some sense for male Ogres at the very least. Obviously, Iām no programmer or designer, so I canāt say how easy that would be to translate the model or skeleton to that of Ogres.
I will however stress the important of keeping character and personality regardless of what would get done with playable Ogre models.
If you look at the Ogre models now, both the old one and the Draenor models, youāll see body language, voice, and mannerisms that make an Ogre feel like an Ogre. This is especially important to retain in the playable Ogre models, as you want them to feel like an actual Ogre and not something that is just the male Kul Tiran with a different skin on.
This is one of the reasons I would hope and prefer that the Draenor Ogre model be fleshed out more as the playable Ogre model. Again, I can not say that this is possible and Iām sure a lot of work would have to go into making it possible (especially when considering two head customization). However, it already has several emotes, including a dance, the ability to ride mounts (for the Draenor model) and has several animations that feel Ogre-like for the most part. If itās possible to add armor and customization options, I feel like it would be the best thing to do for them.
Thus the importance of feeling like an Ogre when playing as one. It creates a connection from the player to the character, and seeing how they act can make a player more attached to said character and enjoy the game more. If Iām an Ogre, I want to act like one. I want to be bumbling around, looking like Iāll shout WWAAGGHHH at any point. If I hit a mob, I want to look like Iām bashing it as an Ogre would. If two heads are an option, I want to see an occasional animation of the heads arguing and one or both of them getting bonked in the head. Stuff like that goes a long way in the enjoyment of characters. Sure, some animations would likely look serious (especially since some would like serious Ogres while others like me also want an option to be big and dumb), but the important thing is to retain that Ogre personality in the player character model in some way.
Iāve stated my preference, but I am open to whatever makes it easier to make Ogres a player race. However, I will always stress that Ogres need to have their own identity as a player race. I want to run around as an Ogre and not a male Kul Tiran in an Ogre costume, if that makes any sense. If you retain Ogres being their own race in the model animations, emotes, and such, then Iāll be very happy.

I found a really cool photoshop someone made of an Ogre on a character creation screen on DeviantArt. It was created by TheWabbajackX and uploaded on July 7th, 2012
āCustom WoW race: Ogreā by TheWabbajackX on DeviantArt.
The background looks really cool. I like the skull and crossbones sign next to the bridge to indicate danger. Iām not sure where in Dustwallow Marsh this would take place. Maybe in front of the Stonemaul home to indicate death for Alliance trespassers?
The class selection looks about what I would expect, though Demon Hunters I could see if more races were opened up to be that class (FYI this image was made in 2012 and Legion came out in 2016, so this was made well before Demon Hunters were an actual class). Priest is also there and, according to comments, could be a possible class for Ogres because there does exist Ogre Priests in the game:
Which is a pretty cool find. I should consider adding Priest to the class list when I next update the megathread.
There are a few other races added to the banners, most of which the user has created photoshop images for as well. Some interesting choices for playable races on there were made, especially for a full neutral banner, and it very fitting to see Forest Trolls on the Horde side as their own slot.
As I mentioned, this mock-up was created in 2012, which is why it uses an older-style of the character creation screen. It does look awesome though, and it makes me hope weāll see Ogres on the Horde side of that character creation screen someday!

I mentioned this in another thread relating to Saurok, but I feel like ogres would be a great addition to my āCity of Monstersā guild even if I myself might not play one. I imagine many people would come up with super neat stories for them and such, which would be tons of fun to see, if Iām going to be honest.
As much as I love my Wildhammer Dwarf and believe me when I say I do. Once Ogres become playable and I think itās more of a matter when they release them, he will be taking a long rest, I only play 2 characters, my Main āWarlockā who I push content with and my alt which is Shaman who I chill with, Iād def be chilling on my Ogre.
With many other MMOs on the horizon, old and new bringing out more playable races and classes, I do hope this comes sooner then later to bring fresh life to this game, letās be real during this drought of content they missed a large opportunity, they could of been like, āwhile we perfect 9.1, hereās Ogres and an Alliance Raceā, atleast to keep us preoccupied to level and gear for heritage armours and so forth!.
One day we will get Ogresā¦One dayā¦Throw in Tuskarrās aswell and Iām set for the rest of my life .
I find the biggest missed opportunity was BfA as a whole to introduce playable Ogres. Especially to not have any of the Horde Ogre clans fight in the war against the Alliance at all.
For playable races, Iām not really expecting any during Shadowlands. Likely, the earliest weād see any would be the next expansion, likely with early access as a pre-order bonus. Introducing playable races during Shadowlands, while possible, might seem a bit out there and out of place, so I can at least understand that. I also am still of the opinion that Covenant races should not be playable for several reasons Iāve talked about before. If I were to expect any new races during Shadowlands, at least for the Horde, Sanālayn could fit very well and have several connections to what is going on at the moment.
Not to mention that something must be going on behind-the-scenes to cause such a delay in developing the expansion. This something might have been a reason why they backed out of their customizations during Shadowlands promise, in which it couldāve been handled a much better way than the callous way they did at Blizzconline to mention this. Thus I donāt really expect resources at present to be working towards much other than trying to get the next patch out and possibly work on the patch after the next.
Donāt get me wrong, I love seeing new playable races. However, I do understand they take a lot of work to get just one race playable, even if theyāre similar to core races like some of the allied races. For something like Ogres, they would likely take a lot of work and require a hefty budget. Moreso if they look into two-head customizations. Imagine both having to code two heads, two separate customizations, and having to test all the helm graphics on each head. Itās a lot of work and I hope it wouldnāt be impossible to create.
As such, I feel like Ogres might be something weād see at the launch of an expansion. I certainly wouldnāt want Ogres rushed out to meet a strict deadline, and they would require a lot of love and care to make sure things work well. Itās unclear if we would be able to get two-head customization, or if that might be something weād see later on via a quest like the Night Warrior questline. Something that could explain why some Ogres have two heads and the process of that is could be interesting. I do know some people want two-head customization, however, so ideally it would come when Ogres would first become playable.
There is still a part of me that feels like Ogres are a matter of when and not if. Theyāre one of the biggest (in more ways than one) missing pieces that would help make the Horde feel complete, as well as being requested since the game launched. At the same time, however, a lot will depend on what direction the game goes and whether resources can be allocated to making new races.
That said, I do think new races are still in the cards at present. It brings some fresh air to the game, acts as a cash cow for boosting and race change services, and works great for marketing buzz. Not to mention that new character creation screen has a lot of room for those races weāve been requesting for a long time.
Iām still hoping there are rainbows at the end of the storm that is Shadowlands. Hopefully, weāll see where weāre going afterwards in the near future, and itāll be a better direction than the current course. Give me playable Ogres and Saurok on the Horde, and Iāll personally be set. Other races in general would be icing on the cake.

Came across a really neat fan artwork of an Ogre Monk on DeviantArt. It was created by Shockowaffel and was uploaded on April 22nd, 2012.
āWorld of Warcraft: Ogre Monkā by Shockowaffel on Deviantart
Personally, Iām fine with Ogres being Monks. I donāt think itās too impossible, and I can even imagine some aspects of Ogre Monks in my head.
Realistically, I donāt know if Blizzard would add that class to them or not. Monks do require a lot of animations, which would need to be applied both to one head Ogres and two head Ogres models, both male and female.
I will say that any Pandaren trying to teach Ogres the ways of the Monk would need the patience of a thousand saints, Iām sure. Still, an Ogre that could become a monk would be really powerful.
Dream big, Ogre fans!
Ohā¦ Oh no.
Now I want an ogre monkā¦
Oh no.
Part of me wonders if Ogre Monks might utilize more sumo related moves. Granted, seeing Ogre Monks being agile and doing flying kicks and stuff would be awesome, but given their size and girth, I could see some advantages if they take it another direction.
Dream big, Ogre fans!
Iām naming my Ogre monk Ozeki nowā¦
Iām also adopting the headcanon that ogre monks do sumo.
I love sumo.
Also yeah I can see an ogre monk using their strength and girth up their advantage like that easily.
Imagine instead of the punching repeatedly power (canāt remember its name) they did a more hand shoving move!
Well, as hopeful as I was before Shadowlands launched I am just as disappointed in just about everything now. From the classes feeling broken and incomplete to no customizations or new playable races. I will be unsubbed this afternoon and have no plans to return in the foreseeable future. The earliest I can see myself returning is maybe 10.0.
9.1 giving the one shoulder transmog is too late and not enough for me to stay subbed. Reintroducing Comp Stomp in August is also too late and not enough for me to stay subbed. Not to mention that they have taken it down the exact same day it becomes active at least the last 2 - 4 times so not falling for that again. No new playable races or customizations also gives me no incentive to stay either.
Me leaving has absolutely nothing to do with the draught either. Iām tired of classes feeling broken at the beginning of an expansion only to feel complete near the end. Iām tired of having to relearn a class or straight up abandon it like I had to with enhancement shaman with each new expansion. Iām tired of classes not having a core/baseline set of abilities that keep the class feeling the same each and every expansion. Iām tired of classes requiring their rented powers to even feel halfway decent. Iām tired of the grinds on top of grinds on top of grinds. Iām just tired.
If Blizz gave us playable ogres I think I would sub one more time and end up loving the ogres but still hating the classes. This game needs a fix and playable ogres just is not enough anymore to cover up the terrible design decisions regarding classes.
I enjoy the ogre community and thank everyone for all their ideas and shared love for playable ogres. You guys rock. Take care all.
For my ogre homies.
Playable ogres in the future.
To each their own.
I widely agree with you about the classes and your pain with rented power.
It sure aināt giving me much reason to stay.
I hope to see you again come 10.0 my friend. Iāll miss you.
Ditto kiddo.
If you ever decide to resub for whatever reason, youāre always welcomed here. Chances are Iāll still be here promoting playable Ogres and Saurok for the Horde. You might want to bookmark this megathread and check up on us now and then to see if any Ogre news has happened. If we get lucky to get playable Horde Ogres, this megathread will likely be very busy.
I donāt really know what to expect in the future. To keep my interest in the game, a lot will depend on what the next expansion will not. Not so much specifically what I want, but moreso what the theme, storyline, and features will be. If it isnāt my cup of tea, there is a chance Iāll consider taking a hiatus.
Of course, I hope things will improve and the game will get better, but Shadowlands really killed a lot of my interest in the game for various reasons. Iām not quite at the point where Iād try out other MMOās, since Iām still having some fun with TBC Classic and doing older content in retail. ESO seems the most tempting, though it hasnāt really interested me from gameplay Iāve seen, and I have no interest whatsoever in FF14. Maybe Iād just focus on my backlog of video games or something and take a hiatus from MMOās in general. Who knows?
It says a lot when the majority of people Iāve seen are quitting and even several content creators are moving off to try other things. As I said, I hope the game does get better in the future and that there is a brighter direction. However, it may be awhile before we know whatāll happen.
Whatever you plan to do, I hope you enjoy your time and have a lot of fun. That is the most important thing when it comes to pastimes. Life seems short, especially as you get older, so itās good to enjoy it and have some fun when possible.
Dream big, Ogre fans!
If I ever check up on WoW between now and 10.0 I definitely will be coming to this thread and Sanālayn. Two main reasons I even get on the forums.
I found out there is an entire map/zone that is basically dedicated to the Argonians (Lizard people) and there are a couple of dungeons focused on them also so I think you might like at least that aspect if you ever gave it a try.
The gameplay is action camera, which I love, but it can be a little finicky at times and you canāt run and jump at the same time which gets awkward. There is tab targeting and they have what appears to be a druid type spec for healing which Iāve enjoyed from the little bit Iāve played. Argonians are also the best healing class so there is that if you like healing.
Some things that are different from WoW and rather cool are that any race can be a werewolf or vampire. And they have these things called polymorphs that act like costumes. One is the cadaverous assassin and you appear as a skeleton of your race. Looks rather cool even though I donāt have it yet.
Here is the argonian:
[Cadaverous Assassin Polymorph | Elder Scrolls | Fandom](https://elderscrolls.fandom.com/wiki/Cadaverous_Assassin_Polymorph?file=Cadaverous_Assassin_%2528Argonian%2529.png)
Me too but, as of right now, they donāt show any signs of acknowledging there is anything wrong with the game.
This exactly. Iām enjoying ESO so far and plan to delve more into it starting tomorrow since my sub is up in about two hours. Love that it is voice acted which makes it feel more alive to me then just reading the quests. The stories are interesting to me and have some comical stuff too like an illusionist that gets turned into a bottle, lol.
I also have Divinity Original Sin 2 which is really fun and I love that story so far but didnāt get far because I had a WoW sub to use. You can even make lizard men or skeletons as your character. Plus a couple other games like Valheim and No Manās Sky that I havenāt played in a while.
Keep up the great work on the Ogres and Saurok threads. Hopefully Iāll talk to you again when either Ogres become playable and/or they fix the game.
As you say "Dream big, Ogre fans!
The next patch release date has finally been announced:
Of Ogre interest, the only thing I could possibly think of is running into some of the Stonemaul Clan spirits from the Dustwallow Marsh quest in the Shadowlands. I feel like the chances of that are low, however, and even then I donāt really know what to expect if we run into them somewhere in the Shadowlandsā¦other than feeling empty if they ask if the Stonemaul got their home back finally.
Iām planning to unlock flying ASAP so I can explore the Shadowlands areas easier and maybe even take more screenshots for fun. I donāt really expect much Ogre-related, but you never know. Best to not leave any stone unturned. Although I really donāt expect much, Iāll be sure to report anything of interest if I do come across anything.
Dream big, Ogre fans!
Canāt remember if flying by character or does it unlock account wide once the one character gets it?
