The Unofficial Stonemaul Ogre Playable Race Discussion Megathread!

I timed a route I had in mind for the Horde Ogre March event idea.

The route itself would start at the gates, go past the auction house to The Drag area, head into the Valley of Wisdom, turn right into the Valley of Spirits, and then into the Orgrimmar Embassy. A brief event there, then walk out, thank everyone, and that would be the event unless I think of something else.

Total Time at walking speed with the planned route from the gates to the embassy: Roughly 8 minutes.

Not too bad. If I used the Kovork Kostume toy, it lasts 10 minutes, and I might be able to make it to the embassy before I would need to refresh my buff with a reflecting prism. Unless I use another model, in which case Iā€™d have to use a reflecting prism every 5 minutes. Will need to consider this for consistency.

Of course, others wanting to march as Ogres would need to rebuff too, so that is also something to considerā€¦

Iā€™ve also been toying with the script idea to use during the event and will hopefully be able to start typing something up for use during the event. Iā€™ll also need to see the character limit for macros and also figure out how many to use so it lasts throughout the event.

Seems like all is slowly coming to plan though! Which means some day soonā€¦

The Horde Ogre clans will be having a meeting with Ji about full Horde memberships!

The only reason I wouldnā€™t want ogres is because of the small fortune of race changes Iā€™ll have to pay for :joy:ā€¦ in saying that Iā€™m prepared for when the day comes!! :+1:t4:

Speaking of race changes, I originally had created an Orc with the name I was going to use for my Ogre to be able to keep the name, which has a lot of meaning to me. I went ahead and played him, since I only played on one server and had 8 slots at the time, I pretended he was an Orc peon who became an adventurer, though it never really felt right. My plan was to reroll if Ogres became playable, which eventually I considered race changing if that happened.

Fast forward to the time of this post, and we still havenā€™t gotten playable Ogres. I remember clearing him out and rerolling him to L1 when I had more character slots since I would reroll him if playable Horde Ogres became a reality, as well as testing a few things as a new character. At the time, I honestly felt like they would be a matter of when instead of if.

While I see the appeal of race changes, itā€™s not something I personally would utilize. Iā€™m the type to start a characterā€™s journey from the beginning and level them from scratch. I even have a hard time with the free level boosts Iā€™ve gotten from expansions. Itā€™s a bit hard to explain. Itā€™s great if people like and use them, of course. I guess Iā€™m just a bit weird in that regard.

Anyway, if weā€™re ever lucky enough to get playable Horde Ogres, I plan to make just the one (Male Ogre Fury Warrior) that is based off my Everquest 1 and 2 Ogre. I want to experience his journey from the beginning, and I might even make screenshot stories along the way as I do.

Still, I hope we do see it become a reality, and people get to enjoy playing as their Horde Ogres. I can see people having a lot of fun making them, light role-playing speaking in broken English, and even role-playing in general on servers as mentioned earlier. I know it would be one of the most hype announcements for me!

I hear you. I race changed my gnome to a velf, and itā€™s kinda awkward. She still has the special flight whistle from the gnome heritage quest and everything. It kinda feels like I deleted the gnome for the velf, rather than theyā€™re the same character.

We need blizz to act

Well, it would be good to at least see the Horde Ogre clans acknowledged again and still part of the Horde. Would get me to feel a bit better. However, who knows when thatā€™ll happen?

On the other hand, since they have allegedly been considered as a playable Horde race a few times, I see no reason why they would be off the table. To be honest, every new expansion announcement trailer, I keep hoping to see playable Horde Ogres as a thing. Hopefully, itā€™ll be sooner than later we see that as a reality.

I took a couple of screenshots of an Ogre in Maldraxxus, similar to what I did with a few Saurok screenshots I took there. When weā€™re able to fly, Iā€™ll likely be able to find other areas in the Shadowlands to take screenshots.

Here is what I took:

An Ogre champion arrives in Maldraxxus, ready ā€œta bash sum tings!ā€

An Ogre champion watches the fight in the Theater of Pain. He has been in quite a few arenas before and is confident he would easily defeat the foes within!

Iā€™m surprised I havenā€™t seen any Ogre spirits in Maldraxxus. Seems like it would be the most likely place for them, since they love fighting and arenas. At the very least, seeing an Ogre in gladiator-like armor at the Theater of Pain is fitting.

Iā€™ll of course gradually take more screenshots in different locales as the inspiration strikes me. I got a few other ideas in mind when I have the time to plan it out and do it. Also still planning out the script for the potential in-game Ogre event/rally I want to do in the future.

Worth noting that Volunteer Guard Day is coming up at the end of the month. During the event, you can /wave at any guard to take on their appearance for 24 hours.

Why is this interesting? Well, unless Blizz broke them in 9.0, the Ogre Brutes near the profession vendors in Shattrathā€™s Lower City count as guards, even if you canā€™t ask them for directions(at least, I was able to the first few times I messed with the event). So you can assume the guise of an Ogre for an entire day, go to Orgrimmar, and then get attacked by the occasional Alliance Intruder mob.

There might be more Ogre ā€œtown guardsā€ elsewhere in the game to give access to more models and skin tones, but thatā€™ll require further research, I think.

I actually never knew you could turn into Ogres that way. That is very interesting.

The only other areas with Ogre guards of some kind I can think of would be Brackenwall Village in Dustwallow Marsh, where the MU Stonemaul Clan relocated to in Cataclysm, and the Stonemaul Hold in Feralas, where the MU Stonemaul was to help with the Gordunni threat and also help take over Dire Maul for the Horde. Not sure if they would count, but itā€™s something to look into.

Volunteer Guard Day is on April 28th. I should try to remember to look into this and maybe take screenshots with what I find. Feel free to post your results too if anyone else wants to explore it, too!

This is useful to know, thanks Greenguy! Iā€™ll be sure to spread the word about that on my server, unless itā€™s already pretty well known!

Stonemaul ogre guards are at Stonemaul Hold in Feralas and Brackenwall Village in Duswallow.

Took a screenshot as an Ogre in the Maw, similar to one I took as a Saurok for my Saurok megathread. Here is how it looks:

An Ogre champion arrives in the Maw, ready ā€œta bash da mooks an da Jay-ler!ā€

Gotta admit, an army of Ogres invading the Maw would be pretty useful. I can imagine them throwing and punting the Jailerā€™s minions at him while breaking out of his chains due to sheer Ogre strength. They might be able to toss him around like a beach ball if they get the upper hand, too!

So I thought of something regarding the Ogre event idea I had in mind, and that was regarding passing out reflecting prisms to those interested in joining the march as an Ogre.

The idea was to have both people in Ogre form and also people as themselves if they want to. Weā€™d likely get people there who donā€™t come to the forums, seeing the event, and wanting to be in Ogre form as well. I had originally planned to pass them out before the event for those interested when weā€™d announce the event starting in a bit.

There is a difference between those who help plan and organize it and those who just see the event going on in-game and want to join it. The latter is what Iā€™m more concerned on, as I want people to have fun as opposed to having something go wrong and feel that theyā€™re being ignored or something.

In that regard, I see a few problems rising from it:

First, the big problem is that you canā€™t pass out items unless youā€™re either on the same realm or a realm connected to another playerā€™s realm.

Second, youā€™d have to group in order to copy the appearance. It lasts 10 minutes I think, and obviously the event would be a bit more than that when it begins. People that come up to get an Ogre illusion would need to regroup to reapply it to stay as an Ogre the entire event which could cause some issues.

Third, point two occurring during the march. It might be hard to get those who would want to be part of the event to stop during the march, invite people, get them buffed, and keep an eye out for others to repeat the process to.

Something like the Vulpera Foxtober worked because the whole event was passing out reflecting prisms and getting as many people to turn into Vulpera as possible to run around Orgrimmar specifically to take screenshots. This could work if this was the whole event, and is something I likely will consider doing in the future for both OGres and Saurok.

Mainly, I was thinking of the little RP event I mentioned. Much as I want random people to join in and become an Ogre during the event, it seems like there could be a few hiccups along the way doing it.

I suppose the March event could just utilize Ogre illusions for just for those of us organizing the event and those in general from the forums, with maybe handing out reflecting prisms to random people afterwards for a photoshoot event, though as I said, I donā€™t want people to feel left out if they come across it and want to become an Ogre during the event.

As such, I could use some opinions here. The march in or itself takes roughly 8 minutes to get from the Gates to the Embassy at walk speed on the route I have, then itā€™ll likely be 2 or 3 minutes just to go through the script I have there. Itā€™s not expected to be a long event, but Iā€™m not sure of the practicality of getting random people in the event that just come across it right before and during the event set up as Ogres.

I want people to have fun and join in, of course. Iā€™m just trying to figure out the best way of going about doing this. As such, opinions would be appreciated!

As long as they donā€™t have to wear armor

Just their little loin cloth thing.

The southern most areas on the current map are all fairly equatorial. Itā€™d make a lot of sense if everything is currently in the northern hemisphere. If that was the case, itā€™d also make sense for there to be more to the east/west.

Itā€™d also be a simple way to divide up the mapā€¦click azeroth, then click hemisphere, then click the continent.

I have the ogre costume toy
Itā€™s the only toy Iā€™ve ever gotten from the old tcg.

I use it all the time

I think this would be possible for the most part since you can hide almost all armor slots on your character. The only exception I can think of at the time of this post is the legs slot. Itā€™s possible there are some loincloth transmogs, depending on what class you are. I definitely understand wanting the ability to make your Ogre character to look like some of the NPC Ogres.

Hopefully they drop this last restriction. This is the only slot we canā€™t hide, with the exception of weapons.

Come to think of it, hide weapons would be nice also for dual wielders. There are some invisible fist weapon mogs, but theyā€™re sadly monk only.
