Now that I have time to type out a longer post, it’s time to celebrate our megathread’s 4 year anniversary! :fireworks:

It was 4 years ago yesterday that I decided to brave the untamed wilderness that is the official WoW forums and start the third Ogre megathread! Time flies, doesn’t it?

There have been several people showing support for playable Horde Ogres since WoW was in alpha. I would say that Ogres would be one of the most popular playable race requests, since you usually see that quite a bit.

Honestly, I thought it was something inevitable. I remember thinking that when I first started playing WoW during TBC, saving a character slot to remake my Ogre Berserker from Everquest 1 and 2 in WoW in the future. Then time passed…and more time passed…and unfortunately, at the time of this post, we’re at 20 years of WoW and still no playable Horde Ogres.

But that hasn’t deterred me at all! We Ogre fans are quite tenacious and dedicated. And seeing as we’ve kept at this for several years, some since the game’s inception, I think we’ve proved that we definitely want playable Horde Ogres.

And without y’all helping to support the cause, I likely wouldn’t be here. I can’t begin to say how much I appreciate all the support, discussions, and idea sharing y’all do here. It really makes a lot to me to see us come together into what feels like facing an impossible task. But we’re 4 years in and still going strong! And for that, I thank each of you who have come here to help. It is greatly appreciated!

I can’t say we’ll see playable Horde Ogres any time soon, but I know I’ll keep at it as long as I keep playing WoW. My Ogre Berserker in Everquest 1 and 2 was one of my favorites to play back in the day, and it would be a dream come true to be able to make him as a Fury Warrior in WoW someday.

Playable Horde Ogres are quite the dream to keep marching in support for. And someday, I hope to see them on the Horde side of that character creation screen and be able to see Ogre players run around Orgrimmar as champions of the Horde!

4 years strong and still going on! No matter how frustrating it can be or how dire things look, I’ll always march in support of playable Horde Ogres! For those that march with me, I thank you again for your continued support, and look forward to continuing onward with y’all!

-Dream big, Ogre fans! Always! :cut_of_meat::japanese_ogre:

Ogres for the Horde!

Congratulations on going strong for four years so far!

These two npcs have the same size. So Ogres can have the same size as Tauren so they can be a playable race now :dracthyr_yay_animated:

would you want them to be able to run like worgen on all 4s

would they be tiny or gigantic

Seeing these screenshots reminds me just how long it’s been since WoW player models had received any kind of graphics overhaul. 10 years and it shows–those texures look like something from a PS2.

Actually…those are the Mag’har textures aren’t they? So they came out even more recently than that…wtf.

I’m back for a little bit. I think I have about 15 days left on sub. Only came back for Orc anniversary back item and Sylvanas armor but looks like that is a December thing. :frowning:

Happy 4th anniversary!!

+1 Playable Ogres for the Horde.

wonder if we’ll get ogres in midnight as a nod back to the 2nd war? they were a pivotal troop on the front lines when the horde was sieging quel’thalas, they were the equivalent to 5 orc soldiers

I honestly don’t really know what to expect with Midnight. It sounds like an Elf-centric expansion, so I’m not sure if we’d see much outside of that.

One of the main themes of Midnight is apparently uniting the Elf tribes, which I don’t know if that is all existing Elf tribes or if there is some place with multiple Elf tribes. Honestly, I’m hoping there isn’t some random group of Elves that come out of nowhere we meet with and then become a neutral race.

I’m assuming if we’re dealing with existing races for Midnight’s potential new playable races, assuming we get a new playable race or races of course, I could see Forest Trolls having a role as a playable Horde race. A part of me hopes to see San’layn playable as well, being part of the Elf tribes we’re suppose to be uniting.

On the Alliance side…the only race I can think fitting what we know of the theme of Midnight is the “FORBIDDEN” Alliance race, which I would be fine with if paired with something else for the Horde (Ogres being a top choice here). Then again, we could just see the Haranir/Harronir as a Neutral race for Midnight. Hard to say, really. :person_shrugging:

When it comes to Ogres, they could be written in just about any expansion, so there could be a chance, albeit a small one to see them in Midnight and having a role of some sort. However, it’s hard to really speculate since we barely know anything about it.

Will it be Xal’atath as the main antagonist still? Will Denathrius come back with his dreadlord followers? Will Hot Topic come into power and seek a monopoly in the US economy? It’s going to be a bit before we find the answers to those questions.

Granted, I will say that Ogres as a playable Horde race and High Elves as a playable Alliance race in the same expansion would really break the internet. Likely on levels of how Minecraft characters were playable in Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Best to just keep an open mind and see what happens when it happens, I guess, though personally, I’d still prefer Furbolg as the Alliance counterpart to Horde Ogres. :polar_bear: :japanese_ogre:

I really hope we will get them as neutral race in TWW. Can’t wait to play one. :dracthyr_blob_dance_animated:

Broken / Krokul could work too when we know Krokul can master the void and Broken can be shamans. Maybe Krokul could play a role with the Void Elves and the Ethereal in Midnight.

Yes Forest Troll as playable for the Horde please. :dracthyr_love_animated:

We could get San’layn customizations for Blood Elves with a quest. Sure it won’t be a playable race but it could be better than nothing for this race.

Ogres should have come as playable during Cata back when Ally had many more players than Horde. Now Horde outnumber Ally so much in every version of the game that there is a next to 0% chance of that ever happening.

I’m holding out hope they come in Midnight. It’s actually probably the last possible chance they could add them and I’d still play WoW. After Midnight I don’t think they’ll be added in the the last Xpac of the trilogy and I’ve not been impressed with WoW in many years. Barely hang around anymore. So pretty much on my way out.

To go back to why I am holding out hope for Midnight. I’m under the impression that Midnight is going back to the BE lands. And that is where the Ogres helped build the magical stones, can’t remember correct name, so hoping there are some holdouts there. Would love to get playable Forest Trolls too since I could see them holding out there also being that they were enemies of the BE’s.

Midnight bringing playable Forest Trolls honestly sounds perfectly right. I love the idea of Zul’Aman becoming a Horde capital. And I rather like the idea of the San’layn, or a least a group of them, becoming apart of the elven reunification.

That is all very true and I just thought of an idea for Ogre involvement in Midnight. What if we have a child of Cho’gall stepping forward to help combat against the Void.

I would be very surprised if they didn’t become playable. The level of detail that went into them is just rather suspicious.

They were considered, before Blizzard went with Goblins.

Altar of Storms.

Another point I would like to add: If Mogu can’t be a neutral race, we could get Mogu (Rajani) for the Alliance and Ogres for the Horde. So we could get two races coming from an old empire lead by an emperor.

Mogu (Rajani) could make a new “destiny” for the Mogu in the Alliance with other titan-forged races but also for the ones wanting to serve the will of the titans again. Meanwhile the Ogres could make a new clan (Stonemaul, Dunemaul and Ogres coming from WoD) in the Horde and try to make a new Goria on Azeroth as new capital (Stonemaul keeping theirs villages in Dustwallow Marsh).

If you want to know more about Mogu, feel free to check my thread about Mogu :dracthyr_yay_animated:

For me, Ogres could be playable for the Horde meanwhile the Alliance could get Broken/Krokul or Mogu. I think it could a good choice for the both sides if we need to choose a race for the Alliance if the Horde must get Ogres as playable race.

You know since both races came into being because of the Titans (The Mogu being amongst the Titan-forged and Ogres being amongst the races descended from Grond, the elemental giant created by Aggramar), they could easily be paired together for The Last Titan.

Though I hope we get Ogres beforehand, there’s just plenty of of opportunity for them before we get to that last chapter of the World Souls Saga. Like aiding their goblin allies with whatever happens with Undermine, Lantressor leading his Boulderfist into the Horde, or even with Midnight as the Ogres come to the aid of their Blood Elven allies in defending Quel’Thalas.

what if the ogres become neutral

I can’t except that. They were Horde to begin with and we haven’t gotten them yet so to turn around and make them neutral would p*ss me off to no end. Probably so much so I would send Blizz a ticket where half the words were F-Bombs, no lie. I would not care if they permabanned me because turning Ogres into a neutral race kills the game entirely for me.

If they had introduced Ogres back before BE’s than I’d be O.K. with them becoming neutral now but since they have yet to even be playable I can’t except them turning them into a race playable by the Alliance. This is a huge NO for me. I don’t mind Alliance getting another big race like Vrykul though.

EDIT: By complete blind luck I ran across something I had said in this thread a while ago and did not realize it. I’ll put it in quotes.

“I’ve had a little time to cool off and if Blizz made Ogres neurtral and available to both factions I’d still probably play them but I would not be happy for reasons stated above. I would just be glad we FINALLY got them and swallow my dislike for the perceived slight.”

I’m not sure this is true anymore. I just get super salty when Ogres are mentioned in any other way except playable for Horde. The simple fact that it has been SO long without them just rubs me the wrong way. So not sure if they were neutral that I would even play them. I think I might rage quit in all seriousness. I’m just beyond tired of Ogres being disrespected by Blizz.
