The Unofficial Saurok Playable Race Discussion Megathread! šŸŠ

Reptiles seem to get a lot of flak by being viewed as emotionless creatures, but that is far from the truth. I came across a neat video that shows a woman bonding with her Tegu, who shows off a lot of emotion and also bonding.

Please note that this person did roughly 8 months of research in order to train her Tegu. As fun as the Tegu looks to have, they require a lot of work in general and arenā€™t an animal thatā€™ll act like this instantly as soon as you get one.

Anyway, video is here:

Iā€™m sharing this just to show off how some reptiles are capable of bonding with others and do have emotions. Itā€™s something important to consider for something like Saurok. While I donā€™t imagine Saurok being cuddly (unless you deliver them a lot of meat dishes, perhaps), I do think they would be capable of bonding and making friends/allies in the right situation. They should be capable of having emotions other than RAWR and hunger, especially since they come from different types of lizards.

Just some food for thought that I thought was neat to share. :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

With a new year having begun, I again want to thank everyone who has supported my megathreads in wanting both Saurok and Ogres playable on the Horde.

Whether you post in here or just come to check out what weā€™re discussing, it means a lot to me to see a lot of positive support. I continue to see people on the forums begin to get interest in playable Horde Saurok, often naming them in different threads of players asking what we want as playable races. I canā€™t say that I had anything to do with it, but itā€™s still cool to see such interest growing.

Seeing others support the cause keeps me going as well, and as I mentioned, Iā€™m not planning to stop any time soon. Weā€™re going to hit our 3 year anniversary later this year, and weā€™re still going strong. :muscle:

I canā€™t guarantee weā€™ll see playable Horde Saurok as a thing, but Iā€™ll keep going as long as I keep playing the game. Hopefully, weā€™ll be lucky enough to see Saurok as Horde champions become a thing in the future. I know that a playable lizardman race in WoW would be huge news, and Saurok have a lot going for them to be a well received playable race.

As long as I keep playing, Iā€™ll keep dreaming of seeing Saurok players run around Orgrimmar as champions of the Horde! Thank you all for your kind words and support! :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

I think your dedication is amazing and the Horde Saurok idea is great. Theyā€™re a really cool race with unique origins and lore. Go Lizardmen !!! :crocodile:

Ogres and Saurok as playable Horde races have been my most wanted playable races for a long time. Itā€™s funny that I use to think Saurok didnā€™t have much of a chance when I saw them in MoP, only to lead the charge for them years later when it seemed like they were much more under the surface.

When allied races were announced during BfAā€™s reveal stream, I decided to try my luck to support them as best as I could. It was a fun time to be around here, seeing all the passion of the different race request megathreads. I figured it was worth trying. So far, it has been a fun thing to do in addition to playing the game.

As hard as it came be at times, Iā€™m still going. I firmly believe that WoW getting playable reptilian races in the form of both Saurok and Sethrak would be amazing and huge news. Moreso since Saurok would be WoWā€™s first lizardmen race if they became playable, and given how popular they are in other games, they would make a lot of people happy.

So I hold my head high and march onward with great determination, alongside those who would share in my dream:

Even through the darkest days, this fire burns. Always! :fire:

Had this video of an alligator doing some bellows in my YouTube recommendations. Iā€™ve shared some videos before, but this is a pretty good angle:

Not sure if a bellow is fitting of a Saurok, but itā€™s still an interesting idea I wanted to share. I imagine an army of Saurok bellowing in such a fashion would be very scary for their enemies! :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

Will be posting this in both my megathreads since it is relevant to new playable races in general.

Awhile ago, Wowhead posted an article that on the official WoW website, the playable race pages have changed. The article shows off the differences between the old and new:

There isnā€™t too much out of the changes, but interesting to note is the layout in general changed again. It makes me wonder if it could be something they implement as a layout for future playable races, especially since this has happened more than once. Not that I take this as a hint of some coming soon, but still, it is interesting to note.

Iā€™m guessing that new playable races may become pages of the expansion features section of whatever expansion they are released in on the official website. Iā€™m sure they would be put on the official playable race page at some point, if not right when they would be announced.

If you want to see the official WoW playable race pages for yourself, you can see them here:

Plenty of room for new races in the future on there, of course! Also plenty of room on that character creation screen, too! :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

I wish theyā€™d capitalize on the appeal of new races and more customizations. Feel like such things should be being added every few patches. Keep people coming back.

Customization options for existing races I feel should be a continuous thing that occurs throughout the gameā€™s life. More options are always a good thing.

Customization races are something Iā€™m not against entirely, but if they become a thing, they need both something that shows them taking the initiative of helping their respective faction or shows them joining their chosen faction, along with a story presence and their own identity.

New races are something I can understand not coming out too often, but are something I would hope would be a regular expansion feature we would see. I know they take a lot of resources to make (building models, animations, fitting armor pieces, recording voices, etc), even with something like allied races where it isnā€™t as much work creating a new playable race from scratch (but still requires a good mount of work!).

At the same time, I feel like BfA really increased interest in seeing new playable races. The allied race system was something that, while having some criticism, was really popular. While I donā€™t expect to see 10+ new playable races in another expansion, I do think seeing the Horde/Alliance work with races, whether theyā€™re existing ones or new ones to the game in general, that end up joining their respective faction is exciting and really cool when you think in terms of the Horde/Alliance expanding and evolving into something bigger. It also keeps a lot of interest in the game and keeps those of us who love our alts more reason to keep playing longer.

I will admit that seeing an expansion giving us several new races that have been requested for a long while would be really exciting to me, such as if the rumors of an old world revamp come true which would be a good time to do such a thing in my opinion. Seeing people excited to make their dream characters, like with the Vulpera and MechaGnome megathreads, would also be great to see with celebrations going on here and in-game.

Iā€™m sure weā€™ll see new races gradually overtime. Especially since they revamped the character creation screen in-game to have a lot more room. Hopefully with the popularity of the allied race system and the various support movements, like the megathreads on here, weā€™ll see some races people want to see become playable become fully playable races.

While expectations will be tempered, Iā€™ll always keep hope! Also more character slots per account would be great too! :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

Came across a neat art piece on DeviantArt of a Seraphon from Warhammer: Age of Sigmar riding a Carnosaur. This was created by the user named ā€œIndofreceā€ and was uploaded to the website on July 12th, 2018.

ā€œSaurus Oldblood On Carnosaurā€ by Indofrece on DeviantArt

I wanted to share this art piece because it looks pretty amazing to see a ferocious lizardman riding a ferocious mount. Something I imagine with Saurok is them riding similar types of mounts, assuming some Saurok tribes have tamed such beasts on other continents they travel to.

Mushan mounts work fine as well, but this brings up the image of having Saurok with something like devilsaur mounts or other giant, ferocious reptile or dinosaur mounts. It seems really fitting and is one of the many reasons I like the Serapon in Warhammer: Age of Sigmar.

Speaking of, Iā€™m hoping when I finally get a job, Iā€™ll be able to put some money aside to build a Seraphon army. It is something Iā€™ve wanted to do for a long time and is really exciting to think about. Whenever I can afford to do it, Iā€™ll likely share some pictures here to help inspire some playable Saurok ideas!

Hopefully, weā€™ll be able to build up an army of Horde Saurok in-game someday! :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

They would go to Horde which would further kill the Alliance. So no.

Very very neat.

Iā€™d love to see them either gather their own Dino mounts or get help from the Zandalari to do so.

Mushann I think are nice though.

Oh!

Any ideas on scale colors youā€™re going to do?

Iā€™ve been very fond of the blue-green scale color. That is likely what I would paint my Lizardman/Seraphon army, though I could always have a variety as there are some really neat scale color patterns Iā€™ve seen. The blue-green scale colors are what Iā€™d go for first as I like it the most so far.

In fact, should Saurok become playable, one of the scale colors I want for one of my Saurok is the blue-green one seen here:

I just really love the scale color for it. I also like the scale colors of gilla monsters, so Iā€™d consider that as another Saurok characterā€™s scale colors should that be an option. :lizard:

I donā€™t know if Saurok would need help taming beasts to use as mounts. Maybe they could consider it as a rite of passage of sorts to tame and raise whatever they would use for mounts. If theyā€™re capable of having devilsaur mounts, for example, maybe they could teach the Zandalari a thing or two! :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

Found another neat Warhammer Lizardman/Seraphon art piece on DeviantArt. This one was made by the user ā€œHKDrawingā€ and was uploaded to the web site on July 29th, 2021. It shows a Lizardman walking through a jungle up close.

ā€œLizardmenā€ by HKDrawing on DeviantArt

Showing this art piece is useful because of it being a closeup shot. You can see the Lizardman is wearing a skull helmet of sorts, and as I mentioned before, skull armor for Saurok is a fitting theme in my opinion. So seeing examples of that with Lizardmen races in other media is very useful.

The idea of hunting fierce opponents, overcoming them, and making armor out of their skeletons, hides, and such seems like something that would be fitting for Saurok culture. It shows strength and would likely have several good tales to tell around the camp fire.

Iā€™ll continue to look for other interesting things to bring some Saurok idea inspiration! :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

If you havenā€™t heard, at the time of this post, Microsoft had just bought Activision, which of course includes Blizzard:

Itā€™s going to be awhile whether we see if this will be a good thing or not for WoW. Usually when Microsoft buys a gaming company, they let them operate autonomously without much if any interference from Microsoft.

There are a few things Iā€™m hoping that will come out of this. First is hope that this will lead to better treatment of Activision employees. Phil Spencer was critical of Bobby Kotick and Activision over all the stuff going on for the last several months, both of which will be reporting to him. Hopefully, this leads to better working conditions.

I also have some hope that maybe weā€™ll see WoW go in a bit of a better direction and that Blizzardā€™s infamous stubbornness will be lowered. Maybe to keep up the revenue, weā€™ll see things like player requests get considered more than before, and that weā€™d see more resources and time will be put into making the game better.

This is of course just some hope. As I said, itā€™ll be awhile before we see the effects of this, for better or worse. I canā€™t imagine that everything will become perfect and the game will become the land of milk and honey that pleases everyone. Still, Iā€™m hoping for some good changes in general.

Interesting to note is that WoW and ESO will both be owned by Microsoft, making them sort of a sibling MMORPG, which is cool to think about. Maybe weā€™ll see ESOā€™s Argonians inspire WoW to give Saurok some more love and maybe make them a playable Horde race at some point. Well, I can at least dream! :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

I think youā€™re right that time will tell, but there are good things right off. First off the Chi-Coms are out of the picture which is pretty huge for Blizzard, at least from my standpoint. Thereā€™s also Microsofts history, which as you said is hands off, but can lead to greater funding for Blizzard which would be absolutely amazing.

Reminding Blizzard of my support for Saurok, and while Iā€™m one person, I think many in the community would enjoy a lizard race. The Saurok have a unique history and thereā€™s a ton of story that can be done with them. I would love to see good story developed for them.
