The Unofficial Saurok Playable Race Discussion Megathread! šŸŠ

Iā€™ve not dabbled with the magic side too terribly much, but as for Skyrim, Iā€™d think doing something similar should be doable. Thereā€™s a number of necromantic spells, and thereā€™s even a mod called ā€œUndeathā€ that builds on necromancy as well.

Iā€™ve kinda thought about making myself the equivalent of a death knight and playing around with that as well. I even saw some mods that try to replicate some of the Warcraft spells.

Iā€™ve seen a few Warcraft-related mods for Skyrim, which looks really neat. Also saw some guides to making a Necromancer build in Skyrim, which I might consider if I ever played the game. Itā€™s hard for me to get into the Elder Scrolls games to be honest, as in most cases Iā€™d rather just play a MMORPG. Just how I am, personally, but I do see the appeal of the Elder Scrolls games.

In terms of Saurok and Necromancy, assuming we go with the whole meat lovers thing, I would imagine that bones would pile up from hunts and meals. If not used for weapons/armor and tools, I could see Saurok utilizing magic to reanimate skeletons to act as guards and such. Itā€™s something I could see as Saurok logic to make use of all parts of a kill as possible.

Not exactly the worst thing to do. Especially compared to some of the other classes. Death Knights wander cities with ghouls and skeletons whose bodies belong to just about anyone, Warlocks wander with dangerous demons in cities and openly do research there, and Shadow Priests who delve into the Void and fight going insane on a regular basis and are allowed to walk opening anywhere. Not to mention that the Horde seemed ok with Sylvanas raising fallen Horde soldiers to take on the Alliance in the middle of battle, so I donā€™t think they would particularly care for the most part provided that Saurok donā€™t raise Horde members from their graves.

This assumes that Saurok would gain the intelligence to research Necromancer related magic (from pillaging Mogu artifacts, books, and such), of course. Itā€™s just me imagining this for fun. Though if Necromancers did become playable, even as a skin for Warlocks, Iā€™d be very happy if Saurok could be them. Otherwise Iā€™d be content with a Saurok Warlock and Death Knight. :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

Yeah, thereā€™s one guy who does really HD remakes of some of the Warcraft weapons for Skyrim. Very well done.
Iā€™ve kinda thought about trying out ESO again. Itā€™s been a long time since I tried it lastā€¦was when it first came out and was sub based, Iā€™m sure itā€™s changed a lot since then.

Animating the leftovers from dinner would be funny.

Fear of undeath in the current WoW game doesnā€™t make a lot of sense anymore. We see it all over and even work with people affected by it. Thereā€™s a point where itā€™d become accepted since itā€™s so commonplace.

I heard it was rough at first and has become decent since then. Itā€™s currently the only other MMO I have particular interest in, aside from the upcoming Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen MMO coming in the future.

Iā€™ve thought off and on about giving it a try, especially since you can play it without a sub fee, but I donā€™t think Iā€™m quite ready to try it out myself. I still can have some fun with WoW, where currently Iā€™m playing TBC Classic which has made me feel much better because Iā€™m not in the afterlife. I also donā€™t think Iā€™d have much time for another MMO, since Iā€™m going to be finishing my degree program soon and will be job hunting. Not to mention that Iā€™ve been exploring other potential hobbies lately, so that also has been eating up time and money.

Also, WoW has a much better race/class selection than other MMOā€™s in my opinion, and has much more potential to add in really awesome new playable races. A few more specific races becoming playable, and Iā€™d be really likely to stay with the game much longer.

Of course, a lot does depend on what direction the game goes whether I take a hiatus or not. Assuming the next expansion has a better theme than Shadowlands, I donā€™t see myself leaving anytime soon, but weā€™ll see what happens. Still hoping for a better direction.

ESO is something Iā€™ll consider trying, possibly when there is a free trial, but a lot will depend on where WoW goes whether I explore other options or not in terms of MMOā€™s.

Gotta find a use for leftover bones and such! If it isnā€™t making weapons, armors, or tools out of them, might as well practice magic on them to make them useful. :skull:

I donā€™t really see it as fear so much as it being an affront. But as I said, we accept Death Knights walking around in places like the Stormwind Cathedral with ghouls and skeletons in tow who could be someoneā€™s relative or significant other among other classes of low moral fiber. So seeing Necromancers with skeleton pets walking around likely wouldnā€™t bat an eye, assuming they donā€™t go to the local graveyard and nonchalantly raise the dead from there.

Not to mention that walking around in the Afterlife likely helps it become even more accepted. :stuck_out_tongue:

Whether Saurok practice Necromancy or not, I still see them fitting well in the Horde just fine. If anything, I at least imagine them crafting weapons, armor, and tools out of bone from prey they kill from hunts. Leave nothing to waste! :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

Iā€™d have to look into that one some more, but it did sound interesting.
Iā€™ve been playing a bit of Skyrim lately. Then last night spent a number of hours trying out this ground mining vehicle Iā€™d rented on Star Citizen. Ran into a number of bugs (to be expected) before I had luck, finally managed to get things working right and had a decent little run at it.
Iā€™d played through the newer Doom games recently and had a lot of fun with that. Those were really well done and I look forward to more.
So many other games I could be playing tooā€¦the list on steam and other similar launchers are extensive hahah.

No kidding, they could be doing so much more with it. They really need a dedicated team to just character customizationā€¦races, appearances, classes, class visuals, etcā€¦so much potential.

Reminds me of a little meme/story image I saw the other day about aā€¦I guess it was a D&D campaign, and they were fighting these skeletons, the cleric and paladin were wondering why their turn undead and such spells werenā€™t working on the skeletonsā€¦end of the little story explained the baddie was using spells to animate inanimate objects, no necromancy involved, so they werenā€™t undead, they were just plain ol bones being magically moved.

Death Knights, Warlocks, Demon hunters, Void elves, werewolves, undeadā€¦necromancers should already be an option. Itā€™s dumb theyā€™re not.

So yeah, this should all be stuff people see on a daily basis and have grown accustomed to.

Come on Blizzard. Sauroks would be a very welcome part.
Right now, the game needs something new. Sauroks would be a new breed and players would love to have one.
The game would benefit from having this breed playable, as it would recover some of the prestige lost in recent times with something easier and less traumatizing than new systems and resources collected tiring and with ephemeral results.

Legends come and go but playable races are eternal.

My gaming backlog is a huge black hole that just keeps getting bigger. I wish I had more time and energy to work on it, but free time seems to dwindle at times, and will likely plummet when I hopefully get employed. Steam sales, like the current Summer Sale, also donā€™t help things much. ā† <

This is one of the big reasons Iā€™m a supporter of new races and customizations. The player character to me is the most important part of a MMORPG. WoW has the potential to have a lot of variety that would be wonderful for character creation.

So many current NPC races would add a lot to the game if they became playable. I still think new races being gradually added are in the cards for now, so I still keep hope of more being added as time go ones. I mean, there is all that room on that new character creation screen!

Itā€™s something I harp on a lot, but I just feel strongly about it. Itā€™s why I hope people get the races they want playable, since characters in MMOā€™s mean a lot to players.

Very much agree. Adding playable reptilian races would be a breath of fresh air and huge news for the game. Both Saurok and Sethrak are wonderful choices that would add a lot to the game, with both offering different flavors in terms of culture and personality.

Iā€™m sure they both would be well received favorably, and I still hope to see Saurok get some love, care, and expanded lore while getting on the Horde side of that character creation screen! They can be much more than just angry NPC jobbers! :lizard:

Iā€™m sure Horde cities like Orgrimmar would quickly get use to seeing voracious Saurok walking around too. Especially if they bring with them some delicious recipes and host some huge BBQ parties! An excellent way to make friends, Iā€™d say! :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

AmƩn!

Including sauroks would be something far less convulsive than more of a borrowed power system or some bizarre feint with the lore.

Coming up with a name for a character can be a really tough time. Often times, itā€™s hard to come up with something (especially if you want to be original) and many times when you come up with something, itā€™s already taken! You could spend hours trying to figure out a name, likely getting disconnected from the game from ā€œinactivityā€ and having to constantly customize your character!

Iā€™ve been there before with a few characters, and when things seem dire, I look at some name generators online for inspiration. One such website Iā€™ve used before is Fantasy Name Generators:

It has name generators for all sorts of fantasy brands, with races included in each. This of course includes name generators for several Lizardmen related races as well, including one for Saurok:

Iā€™m not sure how this one was formed, but it offers several Saurok names. There is no selection for gender, so it likely focuses on male names since at the moment, female Saurok only exist in Hearthstone. Maybe weā€™ll see female names added if female Saurok appear in-game.

There are a few other Lizardmen name generators on this website, which features male and female names, and some offer neutral names.

Lizardfolk (In General)

Lizardfolk (Dungeons & Dragons)

Argonians (Elder Scrolls)

Lizardmen (Warhammer)

Trandoshans (Star Wars)

There are a few other links to reptilian races on the bottom of the Lizardfolk (In General) name generator.

I figured I would link some Lizardmen specific ones for those who might be interested in coming up with names for possible use in the future, should we be lucky enough to get playable Horde Saurok or maybe for other general Lizardmen uses. Character names are a very important decision, so hopefully this helps anyone interested in coming up with one.

I already have a few names in mind to use that come from my Iksar characters from Everquest 1 and 2. Hopefully, Iā€™ll get to recreate them as Saurok someday! :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

Iā€™ve been eyeing a few things on saleā€¦wondering if I should bother getting them for much the same reason. Quite a large back log, but seeing ones I wanna play real cheap is sure tempting.

So much potential that seems to be wasted since theyā€™re doing so little with it.

Thatā€™d be a sure fire way to make friends, massive BBQ party!!

Itā€™s fun when one just jumps to mind. Iā€™ve got a few characters I wanna get around to playing at some point that had names that just popped into my head and I had to go make them.
Iā€™ve still got a few bouncing around in there that I should makeā€¦

Indeed. Itā€™s a shame since character creation in general can be a huge deal and lasts throughout the lifespan of a MMORPG. I hope things change and weā€™ll see it get more support.

I do want to think that new character creation screen is a way to gradually add in new races in the future. At the very least, I still see new races in the cards at the moment, so I still think itā€™s important to voice your support for new races and also customization options for existing races. You never know if it could lead to something.

Of course, playable reptilian races would be big news, add a lot of variety to the character creation screen, and would likely well received. Iā€™m a little biased, I admit, but I still think itā€™s true! :lizard:

If we ever get playable Horde Saurok, I want to host something like a huge BBQ party in Orgrimmar to celebrate. I donā€™t know how to make it work, but maybe Iā€™d figure something out. Food is the best way to make friends, after all! :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

Sure looks like it was laid out that way, but itā€™d be nice to see them actually use it that way too!
Iā€™ve been supporting pretty much any of the options players have been asking for. Thereā€™s so many that should already be a playable option.

I agree. I am of the opinion that the more the merrier, and the more options for customization options the better. It adds a lot to the game, the world-building, and gets players invested and really attached to the game as a result which lasts across several expansions.

Itā€™s a reason I do support a lot of races people want. A lot of them would add a lot of variety to the game. Especially when they fill in a niche that isnā€™t represented currently. Races like reptiles (Saurok and Sethrak), big lumbering brutes (Ogres), aquatic races (Kelfin and Jinyu/Ankoan), vampiric races (Sanā€™layn), avian races (Arakkoa), and so on.

Itā€™s also just cool to see how the Horde and Alliance have evolved as timed goes on. This was touched upon lightly at the end of the Hordeā€™s BfA ending cinematic how how much the Horde has grown with their new allies. Itā€™s cool to think how the Horde started with the Orcs fighting for their freedom with a few allies into something much more with several allies fighting for the same cause.

New races I expect to be added gradually as opposed to getting a bunch added in all at once like with BfA, but itā€™s something I still hope to see with future expansions. Both for members long overdue of the Horde and Alliance and also new members in general.

Not to mention that NPC races can become much more when becoming playable. Races that exist just to be quest givers or just jobbers for quests can get fleshed out and become something much more with a lot of potential. A big reason I support playable Horde Saurok, but a lot of other races apply here.

Time will tell what happens to that character creation screen, but I hope it gets filled up with races people have been wanting and that dreams become fulfilled with those races becoming playable.

I know I keep saying this like a broken record, but I feel itā€™s important to keep repeating it. :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

Kinda along the lines of the allied race recruitment quests and such, Iā€™d quite like seeing more questlines that build and dive into the culture. Explaining more of their background in game or things that have changed for them. Undead started out as former minions of the lich king, then basically fodder for Sylvanas, and now theyā€™re kinda mehā€¦no home, no leader, no real direction yetā€¦
I quite like the questlines that tell a good story, a lot more than repetitive dailies.

Wanted to wish Canadian WoW players a happy Canada Day! My father is Canadian, so I celebrate my Canadian heritage in addition to my USA heritage. :canada:

I like it also. I like seeing the culture of different races and how their point-of-view on different situations. It makes for a good connection and also for world-building. Also helps to make sure they arenā€™t forgotten and even adds personality to the game.

One of the things I like about the allied race system is that you get to meet and work with those races who did eventually join. You got to learn about their culture, their struggles, help them with it, and then get help from them on things. It wasnā€™t a perfect system, of course, but it was enjoyable to work towards unlocking them. It did add a lot to see more about new members of the Horde/Alliance before and right after they join.

Then again, Iā€™m the type to really get into world-building, lore and such. So itā€™s kinda up my alley. Some races I do hope get expanded lore and culture, as they could be really interesting. :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

Just finished a big exam and have another one to prepare for. Free time has been very limited as a result, so Iā€™ll do another quickie post for here. Another artwork piece.

This one is a Lizardfolk Barbarian on DeviantArt, created by Frankhorlw and was uploaded to there on May 16th, 2020.

ā€œCommission - Lizardfolk Barbarian, Verthicaā€ by Frankhorlw on DeviantArt

I wanted to share this artwork because I like the pose and body language of the Lizardfolk. You can tell they think highly of themselves, likely having accomplished some task or perhaps slayed a fierce monster. It seems like theyā€™ve had several battles, judging from the scars on the body.

I imagined Saurok being a bit smug in that way after a battle. If they believe in strength over enemies, I could see them making a pose similar to that over a battle. This goes well with the idea weā€™ve floated of them being into hunting, and the spoils that would come out of it. An idea of them being fierce and proud of their strength could be an important part of their culture, though

I would guess such actions would be a matter of practicality (actually having strength to overcome opponents) as opposed to just showing off. Although, Saurok are capable of the latter when you think about that Brinescale Saurok flexing and showing off to a couple of human pirates in Tiragarde Sound. So I could imagine smug Saurok being a thing, since they are capable of emotions other than RAWR and HUNGER.

Iā€™ll keep trying to do some more posts of support and ideas as best as I can. Hopefully some more free time will pop up to do more elaborate posts in the future. :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

I hope yā€™all get to enjoy some neat fireworks and, most importantly, eat lots of good food! I usually get to eat some delicious BBQ food myself, which involves turkey burgers and hot dogs. A very delicious combination I get to unleash my inner Saurok on! :hamburger: :hotdog:

Since Iā€™m stopping into the forums again (though am returning to my ā€˜break possibly foreverā€™), I wanted to say I still support Saurok and really hope they get added. As I say many times, they have a lot of potential, and I can really see some rich lore for them.
