The Unofficial Saurok Playable Race Discussion Megathread! šŸŠ

I really want a reptile race for WoW, if itā€™s for the Horde that would be just perfect

Iā€™ve been playing ESO for about a week now and finally made an Argonian. The customization isnā€™t bad and I think would work well if Saurok ever became playable.

You can change the spikes on the head to be a reptilian fan like some lizards have or you can change the spikes to be fanned out or just straight spikes. They have a hair option that is a little weird imo. They also have a facial spike option that is separate and is kind of cool.

Their skin colors are O.K., but the lizard spots kind of take away from the look since they are not separate options. The alligator skin option is rather nice minus the lizard spots/pattern I think Saurok should get a separate skin and pattern option so as to not make it as muddled.

Argonians donā€™t have a tail option in ESO but I think it would be cool to include that with Saurok. Maybe a long, short and cutoff option at the very least.

Argonians have some pretty neat customization options in the Elder Scrolls series in general. Quite a few of them would work very well for Saurok customization ideas.

Iā€™ve linked some videos on male and female creation in ESO before, though I searched to see if there were any more recent ones.

I did come across a detailed one for male creation here:

And a short one showing off a female Argonian creation here:

Sliders are used for the creation here, but there are some neat concepts that I feel would work well for Saurok customization options.

As for tail customization, I donā€™t really see that being utilized too much in WoWā€™s engine. Iā€™m not too sure what all you could do with them in that regard other than choosing different types of tails. I have mentioned the idea of tail equipment as a racial before, where I discuss it here for those interested:

Itā€™s a fine idea, though I donā€™t know how practical it would be to implement it. At the very least, I feel like a racial for whipping enemies with your tail should be a thing. Itā€™s something you see in several RL lizards.

I may very well give ESO a try at some point. It seems like they only offer free trials at special times though, which is a shame since I donā€™t really want to spend money in any way just to try out the game.

Since it doesnā€™t really need a sub, I could play it in addition to WoW. I donā€™t think Iā€™d ever truly quit WoW unless it just spirals into a horrible direction for long periods of time. I do hear that if you stick with ESO, being subbed gives some good perks as opposed to buying parts of the game.

Iā€™ll consider giving it a try at some point, though I still hope to see playable Horde Saurok someday. It would keep my attention on WoW for sure! :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

Over the time Iā€™ve supported this megathread, I noticed that it was been showing up fairly regularly in some Google web searches, which is pretty awesome.

Searching for ā€œSaurokā€ yields this megathread as a top result. Same for searching for things like ā€œwow saurokā€ or ā€œwarcraft saurok.ā€ Even searching some forms of ā€œFFXIV Bangaaā€ has this site show up close to being a top result, which is amusing to me. Makes me wonder what else this megathread shows up with all the things Iā€™ve talked about in it.

Searching for ā€œSaurok allied raceā€ leads to this megathread as a sub link to another thread on here which has long since stopped being active. I suspect the reasoning for it is because of the words ā€œallied raceā€ in the thread title. I suppose in hindsight I shouldā€™ve put ā€œallied raceā€ in the titles of my megathreads, but I figured at the time ā€œplayable raceā€ was more general and would cover both allied and core race status, assuming there is a difference these days with the new character creation screen.

Some of the posts linked on google searches are a bit weird. If you find this megathread from a search for ā€œFFXIV Bangaa,ā€ it shows in the search results a thread I talk about Bangaa, but it instead links to the post I did on skinks in general. It also seems to like a post here of someone making a brief comment about Kros, that devilsaur ā€œgodā€ the Skumblade Tribe worship.

A lot of my screenshots also have been appearing in google image search, along with some other images Iā€™ve linked in here. In some of the regular Google searches, it shows a picture of a dragonman next to the thread, which could paint the wrong impression of people who come across it and think that we think that itā€™s a Saurok. Not sure how it manages to pick images in search results, be it regular searches, image searches, or otherwise.

On the bright side, it has been useful to appear in search results. Several people have managed to find this place from Google searches. I seem to be one of the few actually leading a campaign to try to get playable Horde Saurok, so to see more outlets that this megathread pops up in to attract others to at least read the posts we all type here, the better.

Of course, I wonā€™t let it get to my head. I donā€™t want to play the Google-search-metrics game like YouTube content creators do just for advertising purposes. Being able to have this megathread be found in general has been a blessing, and if anything, Iā€™m still considering other avenues to supplement the playable Horde Saurok movement. Worrying about search results and the like seems more like a headache that isnā€™t worth it in the long run. Besides, Iā€™d rather focus on quality anyway.

This is just something fun I wanted to share that I noticed. Weā€™ve come a long way over the two years this megathread has been around, and itā€™s good to see it open up ways to get new people to find it, even if they donā€™t actively come to the forums.

As I said, Iā€™ll keep going the best as I can as long as I keep playing the game. :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

Yeah, the lizard guys in ESO seem like exactly what you want in WoW. When I played ESO all my Argonians were crafters, but I could have used one as my main, if I wanted to. There are certainly important NPCs in the game who are Argonians.

It all seems like a bad episode of South Parkā€¦or a bad dreamā€¦or a bad dream based on an episode of South Parkā€¦

I remember back in the days of Everquest 1, when I first came across the game sometime after its second expansion (Ruins of Kunark) came out, my search led me to various websites of guilds people had made.

Most of them were fun to at least look at, since they would often have screenshots of their accomplishments or just general silly ones. The coolest ones I came across were guilds themed around every member being of a specific race. I remember finding a few of them, but I only remember two specific ones in that regard.

ā€œDa Grobb Sqwadā€ was a guild where all members were Trolls and the other, I think named ā€œLegion of Cabilis,ā€ was an Iksar (Lizardmen) only guild. Both of them had some really cool screenshots of events they did, like raiding big bosses or even raiding some of the cities in the game. It was a cool to see a theme like that.

For WoW, I know Iā€™ve heard of some guilds like that, usually on RP servers, but it wasnā€™t quite as common as I saw back in Everquest 1. I remember when Cataclysm was announced, I saw people cheering Gnome Priests being available since some Gnome-only guilds could finally have a healer within their ranks. Iā€™m sure if I found some guilds that were themed around a specific race, they could have some fun screenshots. Especially if they raided cities.

Shortly before I got to play Everquest 1, I had the fun idea of forming an Iksar-only guild and possibly raiding different cities. Sort of a ā€œworld dominationā€ type deal. I mean, Iksar did have an empire before and they hated everyone (while everyone hated them). It wouldnā€™t be possible to take over the world, but hey, it sounded like fun trying.

Now if we get lucky enough to get playable Horde Saurok, is this something Iā€™d consider doing? Not particularly, since I donā€™t think I could manage a guild (especially when I play several alts). However, with cross realm grouping, I could see me forming some in-game Saurok events and taking some screenshots. Raiding capital cities, doing dungeons and raids, general hang-outs, and such. Something like that sounds like a lot of fun to do if they ever did become playable, and would give me a reason to continue posting in this megathread if playable Horde Saurok did become a thing.

Likely it wouldnā€™t be a regular activity, but itā€™d be something cool to do and share screenshots of. Iā€™m sure I can think of several activities to do if it became a reality as well. :lizard:

Anyway, just some cool ideas and good memories I wanted to share. :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

Managing guilds can be pretty tough, yeah. But I bet thereā€™d be some interesting ones thatā€™d pop up if we got playable Saurok. Itā€™d certainly enhance mine, which is a city of monsters. Well, if I ever start it up again. And yeah! Are and screenshots are good ways to spread positivity.

So Iā€™ve mentioned before that one of the many character personas Iā€™ve had across different games is that of a Lizardman Necromancer, who originated as an Iksar Necromancer in Everquest 1. Itā€™s someone who I hope to recreate in WoW as a Saurok Warlock (or Necromancer if that becomes either its own class or as a Warlock skin).

Looking around DeviantArt, I came across a really cool fan artwork of a Lizardfolk Necromancer that I wanted to share to show off the concept of a Lizardmen Necromancer. This was created by Vablo and was uploaded on December 20th, 2013.

ā€œLizardfolk Necromancerā€ by Vablo on DeviantArt.

The cool thing about this is that it shows off a Lizardman race in robes. I can see several Saurok looking really awesome in robes and a hood. Give them a neat staff, like a skeletal one, and itā€™d be really fitting!

Beast Lords/Masters are my favorite fantasy class, but Necromancers are up there as well. Not sure what it is about them, but the concept is really neat. Iā€™d be very content just having them as a skin for Warlocks, though Iā€™d settle for a regular Saurok Warlock if that was an option. Death Knights for Saurok would also be a class I especially want for them as well, in which Iā€™d love to recreate my first ever MMO character I made (Iksar Shadow Knight in Everquest 1).

Iā€™ll keep an eye out for more cool Lizardmen artwork to share for Saurok idea inspiration! :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

With the temperature becoming within the mid 90ā€™s here, it means that the first official day of Summer is coming up! Which means lots of swimming and munching on BBQ food!

Speaking of cooking food, I did come across a really cool celebrity lizard chef, ā€œLenny the Lizard Chef.ā€ He even has his own cookbook:

He gained some popularity during 2020 thanks to his owner. This is an interview with the owner that goes into more detail about the cookbook:

I share this because the concept is pretty cool and would also make for a great reference for a Saurok cooking trainer. Maybe they would train all sorts of delicious meat recipes to share to cooks in training! Iā€™ll likely look into getting that cookbook at some point, as Iā€™ve been wanting to raise my RL cooking skills with different cookbooks and recipes. :lizard:

As for the summer time, I hope everyone has a great one. Stay safe, stay cool, and hopefully people get to munch on some delicious BBQ! :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

If you havenā€™t heard by now, the next Shadowlands patch goes live on the 29th:

I donā€™t really expect much in the way of any Saurok related stuff, unless there are more Saurok spirits around somewhere, but Iā€™ll be sure to keep an eye out for anything of interest.

With this patch, I plan to work on unlocking flying as soon as possible. That will help me explore some of the Shadowlands areas better and maybe even offer more opportunities of taking screenshot art there.

Given how long this patch took, I do wonder if weā€™ll get anything else this year. If not, I would guess next February would be when Blizzconline could happen again, and we could get more info there on the patch after this one. Maybe the next expansion also if weā€™re lucky.

As I said, donā€™t expect much at all, but Iā€™ll keep my eye out for anything of interest. :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

Came across another neat Lizardman related artwork on DeviantArt I wanted to share. This time of an Argonian, created by LyntonLevengood and uploaded on July 11th, 2013.

ā€œArgonianā€ by LyntonLevengood on DeviantArt

This Argonian looks really neat. The armor looks pretty fitting and seems to resemble plate in some parts. There is some really good detail here, including the tail being free from the armor. It even has some spikes, which if theyā€™re sharp and strong enough, would really add to the damage of a tail whip attack. Also I think the feet are poking out of the armor, which can work because of the claws likely being annoying to deal with if theyā€™re completely covered with boots.

The spear also is really fitting. When I first saw Iksar when I was getting into Everquest 1, I imagined them as a tribal race that would have a spear as a weapon. This image in my head still sticks with me and has me considering a Saurok Survival Hunter as a possible character, complete with a spear of some sort as a weapon.

On another note, I did find the Age of Sigmar Core Book on sale for a really good price, so Iā€™m closer to starting my dream of building a Seraphon (Lizardman) army at some point. I know it costs a lot of money, but hopefully Iā€™ll be able to put some money aside to eventually look into it as a hobby. Itā€™s something Iā€™ve wanted to do for a long time, and maybe Iā€™ll take some pictures of my progress as I learn how to build and paint the models. :lizard:

Iā€™ll continue to keep an eye out for anything else of interest that could help give some Saurok idea inspiration! :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

Today marks the first official day of Summer! It also is Fatherā€™s Day, so happy Fatherā€™s Day to all the dads out there!

I would guess that Summer would be a favorite time for Saurok. Lots of meat to BBQ, swimming to stay cool, and basking to stay warm! Iā€™ve mentioned the idea of an area where there are several heat rocks to bask on, which would be utilized with fire magic of sorts to keep it constantly warm. Would likely be a great place to relax after filling up on meat and taking a nice swim.

As for Fatherā€™s Day, Iā€™ll be enjoying some BBQ with my dad. Iā€™ll unleash my inner Saurok with grilled turkey burgers and hot dogs. A really fitting meal for the summer time!

Hope everyone stays cool, safe, and has lots of fun! :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

My class has kept me very busy, having recently finished a hefty exam full of calculations I had to do with a time limit, so posts might be a bit slow or might be smaller ones for at least a bit. I wanted to at least keep trying to show support despite that as best as I could, however.

For this post, I wanted to share another cool artwork I found of a Lizardfolk Rogue that was based off the artistā€™s friendā€™s character in Dungeons and Dragons. This was created by Elestria and was uploaded on May 22nd, 2021.

ā€œGax3ā€ by Elestria on DeviantArt

Rogues are a class that I feel fit Lizardmen races very well. One idea brought by someone else earlier in this megathread was the idea of them being able to sneak in water and stay underwater until the perfect opportunity to strike occurs, which is something I can see Saurok doing.

I also view Rogues as useful skills when hunting as well. Being able to sneak and attack wild prey in a hunt sounds very useful and something that I can imagine Saurok utilizing very well. Not to mention that a Saurok sneaking up behind someone and then pouncing them with daggers, teeth, claws, and a whipping tail sounds rather terrifying as assassins.

Speaking of DnD, thanks to a recent Amazon sale, I managed to get some DnD 5e books for really good prices. This includes Voloā€™s Guide to Monsters, which has information on making a Lizardfolk character. Iā€™ve been interested in Tabletop RPGā€™s and was thinking of getting into them as another hobby, so Iā€™ll be looking forward to reading the books both for ideas for general story writings I had planned to do involving my WoW characters and also for some Saurok idea inspiration as well.

Lizardmen research in general is very useful for the latter, which is a reason I spend a lot of time doing such research. Looking at lizardmen races from other sources of media is always useful for Saurok ideas! :meat_on_bone::crocodile:

Other night I was playing Skyrim and thought Iā€™d come across an Argonian Necromancerā€¦he was certainly dressed similar, but turned out to be a vampire hunter.
Had a neat little tale he recounted.
He was added by this large mod called Interesting NPCs which just adds a bunch ofā€¦interesting npcs, as well as some being available as followers. Sounds like he is available as a follower as well.
I do think he was a mage though. Didnā€™t get to see him fight to find out.
Carrying on conversations with the NPCs added by that mod is great. Theyā€™re pretty well written.

An Argonian Necromancer is one of the characters I thought about creating both in ESO and also in the regular Elder Scrolls games if that is an option. Iā€™ve had a fondness of Lizardman Necromancers and Death/Shadow Knights since the days of Everquest 1, and itā€™s cool to see others create storylines like the one you mentioned.

Thus a reason I hope to create a Saurok Warlock and Death Knight someday. Maybe a few others, depending on class choices and whether I have free character slots. :meat_on_bone::crocodile:
