It would be very nice to have Saurok in-game as playable honestly.
This is true. Some other features could go out of armor in general, like horns and spikes. May look a bit odd depending on the armor, but Iām sure it could be workable. Frills in particular could still work with helms, Iām sure.
I agree! It would be a dream come true to see playable Horde Saurok. Playable Horde Saurok and Ogres would be on the hype level of Smash Bros. character reveals for me. Iām sure it would be a really popular announcement in general, since a playable lizardman race in WoW would be refreshing and exciting.
Only Blizzard seems to be the only one who does not realize the interest that this would bring. It seems that Blizzard doesnāt like money.
So I was looking up an upcoming MMORPG, āAshes of Creations,ā and saw that they kinda have a playable reptilian race.
There is a group of races called the āTulnar.ā So far, you can edit your Tulnar to have reptilian, mammalian, humanoid features. The only thing shown of them is a group of silhouettes:
Which, if in-game Tulnar can look like these, would be a playable Lizardmen race in a sense.
There is a wiki that covers the race in more detail here:
And a Youtube video covering what we currently know about them is here:
I donāt really know what to expect with this race. It does seem like it could be a full lizardman race from the silhouettes as opposed to a human with reptilian features plopped onto them, like the Au Ra from FFXIV. Itās something Iāll keep an eye on for Saurok idea inspiration.
Itās interesting to note that some newer MMOās are including playable Lizardmen race of some sort. Itās definitely a popular race that WoW could use to add in some much needed flavor to the playable race roster. Not to mention the huge marketing buzz and interest it would make for the game to announce playable Saurok.
Iām also still keeping track of what comes first: playable Bangaa in FFXIV or playable Saurok in WoW. Maybe if FFXIV does it first, WoW might be more likely to copy them. Guess weāll see if either happens at some point. Iād prefer playable Horde Saurok sooner than later, myself.
What a curious raceā¦
Neat!
Hope those negotiations go well. Playable Saurok big yes please! Crossing my fingers for good stuff when we finally return to Azeroth and leave the nonsense behind.
Firstā¦ Apologies if I came across as rude in any way, not much sleep so wording is a bit more wonky. So may not come off as friendly as usually!
ā¦ eyes slowly widens at seeing your post BRUH, this is honestly the MMORPG Iāve been keeping my eye on. So far Ashes of Creation is REALLY looking promising, only concern is that some people are raising their expectations too high, so this will inevitably cause them to be disappointed. Which, seems to have caused alot of MMOās to do more poorly in the beginning from what Iāve seen, itās worrisome.
Many people know that lizard, and overall beastial races are VERY much sought after and praised in many games, more often than not being rather popular. We saw that on FFXIV, because from what I heard (heard this from a few friends who play, while I do trust their word, take this with a hint of salt), the ONLY reason Hrothgar (big ol cat men) even became a playable race in FFXIV is because of the community demanding itā¦ Although Iām seeing alot more people wishing for Lizard men in it as well now, least when I played.
places monopoly money on the table and pushes it in middle of the table, narrowing his eyes with a grin Hmmm, Iām betting that weāll see it in Ashes of Creation before either of those gamesā¦ Alright, seriously, from what I understand, (again take this with a grain of salt, been awhile since Iāve played FFXIV, or kept up to date with it) FFXIV has no intention of adding any other races, due to the difficulty with the armor involving races. However, I may be wrong in that, as for WoW, despite me personally REALLY REALLY REALLY hoping for playable Saurok and/or Saberonā¦ I donāt think Blizzard is going to do it, I HOPE they do, but Iām not getting my hopes up. If Iām wrong though Bagzak, I owe you a drink
Yeeee, would be great to return to a updated Azeroth, and just have an expansion in the world we already know. Also hope to see Blizzard making the old zones meaningful, for both new and old playersā¦ and I donāt mean the chromie stuff.
I dunno, as much as I personally prefer them too, I wouldnāt put monstrous races up there as being super popular choices. If they were, the horde wouldnāt have originally had a player population problem back in vanilla. Thatās why they ended up with blood elves in the first place, and why the alliance is swarmed with humans and elves as well. And I think thatās why nightborne and void elves became a thing at all, since most people go gaga over elves and they were probably the most likely preferred faction-swap models. And as far as FF14 goes, I believe the demihuman option won out by far, most likely because viera were mentioned by name as an example.
I also imagine itās partially why race/class combination restrictions as still a thing as well; it keeps the non-human/elf classes from swapping over to them as well. It sucks for someone like me, whoād rather play a tauren mage, but Blizzardās not budging on that for now.
The elves and anime demi humanās are usually much more popular ye, same with humans, as you said people go gaga over the elvesā¦ Which Iām not surprised, elves are some of the most interesting races in books and modern film, meanwhile the demi human creatures are rather popular in anime. However, more often than not itās usually (in most cases, for the female versions of the races) due to how attractive those races are. Look at belfs and velfs, look at the Miqā¦ I forget what theyāre called so Iāma call em Nekos and viera, theyāre some of the, if not THE most attractive races in game. However, people still like those beast races, they still want em, are they the most popular? More often than not, noā¦ But, thinking on itā¦ Heh, why is it everywhere I go, where you canāt play a lizard man, everyone seems to want a lizard person to play as?? THis is as much a jest, as it is a serious question. Cat people, UNLESS theyāre like the Neko people in FFXIV, ARENāT super popularā¦ Unless itās ESO, so far thatās the only game I see more cat people than lizard people. But maybe Iām just blind But no seriously, when I first started playing FFXIV, in their trade chat think they called it world chat all I saw was guild stuff, events, and talk concerning lizard people. Bagzak this is more directed at you than anything if I really had to bet money, on what race is more likely to enter wowā¦ Out of saberon and saurok, I honestly think Saurok have a higher chance, since from what Iāve seen personally, lizard men are more popular.
That post was all over the place Apologies if I came across as rude!
Resident elf lover here! I donāt think you were being rude. I adore elves and most of what I play are yeahā¦ elves. I will flat out say I enjoy how attractive they are (and Iām not sure if this makes much of a difference, but Iām also a lady gamer, and I play both genders in roleplay.) I also adore the Miqāote and Au-Ra in FFXIV, though people do poke fun at those of us who do because theyāre attractive. Aaaaaand elf players BUT! AS SOMEONE WHO DOES PLAY PRETTY RACES AND LIKES THEM AESTHETICALLY! I can say I also love beast races.
Now, Iāve moved onto actually playing FFXIV, and I think that is one of the things I am kinda sad about (the lack of variety). I do love the beast men and learning about them. I learned about the Vath (bug people) recently and thought they were neat. I actually wish Blizzard would make hive-mind-break-off lore like them for Mantidāwhich, to be honest, I really want playable and would play in a heartbeat.
So, while I do enjoy the very attractive elves, I also do really want to see things like Arakkoa, Saurok, Sethrak, & Mantid added as playable in WoW. Saurok being at one of the top of the lists for me, because theyāre going to be the closest things to playable dragons. And that aside? Because I think they have so much potential to have some really, really rich lore and rise up to be a great story. Heck, their story is great already. The important thing is, I would play all that I mentioned here (and have a Vulpera as well Iām an altaholic.)
Oh also the race might be attractive but that canāt be the sole reason for me at least. If their lore is boring (high elves to meā¦ meh, theyāre boring, not to put down others who like them, but meeeeh. Blood elves are also now falling into this ) I wonāt be a fan or write a story around them. People (not you from what Iāve seen) imply some are only played because theyāre pretty, and that might be the case for some, but it all depends. Gotta like the stories for me too!
giggles in āat least Iām an exception thereā
As am I. Seeing what direction the game will go next expansion will really make or break it for a lot of people. Iāve said it before, but change the setting of Shadowlands with all else being equal (systems and such) and Iād enjoy this expansion much more.
Will hope for the best next expansion, of course.
Iāve seen this occur with various MMOās before. I remember being really hyped for Warhammer Online, then finding it was more of a theme park game than any other MMO for its PvE and having various issues that went ignored for other aspects of it. It sadly folded before we even saw Lizardmen become playable, too.
I do hope weād see some good competition in the MMO business, as competition is good and would strive companies to do better than what they could do being complacent. Not too sure on how lucrative it would be to set up a MMO these days, since itās a really volatile market compared to other genres.
Iāve heard rumors of this also, though it seems odd since theyāve done several different types of polls to see what types of races people want to see playable.
Honestly, if people really want a race playable, Iām sure they would do whatever is needed to make them playable. This is the company that turned a MMO from a pile of ashes into a phoenix, so I imagine making a Bangaa wear armor and ride mounts and such wouldnāt be entirely impossible.
Seeing as new races are an exciting thing to add in MMOās, weāll see if they add more races or not to that game.
Well, you never know. The stance that I take with my megathreads is that anything I do could have no effect on what gets added to the future.
At the same time, if I thought anything I did was ultimately folly, then I wouldnāt be here. I figure at the very least, showing support of some sort would be better than having none be there at all.
Weāll see what happens, though I will keep some hope at least as long as I continue to play WoW.
This is one of the rumors Iāve seen for what could come as the next expansion to the game. Iām all for it, myself. Lots of possibilities for new races and such too!
They wouldnāt be near elf levels of popularity. I do feel that having options like Ogres, Lizardmen, and so on help give variety and attract players that like those kinds of races. It also adds to the worldbuilding to have options like that as well.
Yeah, the poll I linked earlier I recall seeing mentions of that being the case. They are indeed popular for various reasons, shall we say.
Still, it doesnāt really help give variety to the gameās playable races for someone like me that likes to see variety of some kind. Iād feel a bit better if there were male Viera also, or at the very least some of the other FFTA series races were also playable with them (like Bangaa) as a theme of some sort. Hrothgar, as Iāve mentioned before, are a good choice, but the game needs more like that to get me interested. Especially since it wants you to focus on just one character.
It just doesnāt sit well with people like me who havenāt followed Final Fantasy in general to see bunny girls of all things added as a playable race compared to other more interesting possibilities. Nor does it give me much faith to see any other interesting races added to it.
At least other MMOās have my interest presently. I think FFXIV just isnāt for me in general.
Iād say that Lizardmen races are pretty popular. Again, not elf levels of popular, but still a relatively popular choice.
They have cool designs and likely people have good memories of playing them from the Iksar in Everquest to Argonians in the Elder Scrolls games. Itās also a race you see made playable more often than not in various games in general. Not to mention that reptilian races differ very much from your usual human, elf, dwarf, etc races.
Itās not just my love for Lizardmen as a race when I say this, but having some playable reptilian races (Saurok and Sethrak) would be huge news for WoW and likely get a lot of interest back in the game again.
Iām not really the type to compare chances races have to become playable with each other. Itās not really fun to think about regardless of what race would be more likely, and there are multiple considerations when it comes to adding in new races (expansion storylines, settings, etc) that would be difficult to gauge without knowing what Blizzard is planning for future expansions.
I wouldnāt say that Saberon have no chance. They certainly have a chance of some kind, and with some having come with the Magāhar and having ran off into the Barrens, Iām sure something could be done with them. Not to mention we donāt know is going on with them on Draenor still with Yrel going insane with power and such.
As for Saurok, there is a part of me that hopes theyāre getting some popularity with Blizzard staff. From seeing them used in a few places in BfA (working as pirates, chilling in a bar) to that Saurok spirit being part of (to my knowledge) that text event in Maldraxxus, maybe itās leading up to us seeing more of them in general in the future.
Would be great if it was leading to them being considered as a playable Horde race, but Iāll temper my expectations until we see what happens in the future.
I recall rumors that in Cataclysm, the playable Alliance race was going to be a dragonkin race of some kind. I would guess itād be similar to these guys:
Dragonkin type races are cool, though they donāt quite scratch the itch I have for Lizardmen races specifically. Itās hard to explain, but there are differences between them that I prefer Lizardmen races more as a personal preference. But hey, the more reptilian races, the better IMO!
Still, Saurok have a lot of potential, which I hope to see them get on the Horde side of that character creation screen someday!
Yeah I dunno, not a fan of drakonids myself, their lore is pretty lackluster (I meanā¦ theyāre mutated humanoids from being exposed to dragons, apparently, and servants. Dry, and meh.) Not to mention, they look Terrible to me, though that could be fixed with updates, I suppose. Iām not as big of a fan of them as Saurok. I feel like Saurok would capture ādragonsā for me more thanā¦ wellā¦ those things anyway. Besides, WoW dragon lore is utter trash to me, I still hate it -,- Love dragons, hate the lore ( a lot).
When it comes to saurok, their lore is much more appealing, and very importantly, they have a HUGE chance to grow into something super interesting. Plus, yeah, lizard men in general are really neat, and the more I learn about Saurok, the more I enjoy the idea of them being playable.
Admittedly drakonids might be either my #1 or #2 pick, swapping with naga, based on how I feel at the time. Drakonids do have a rather unfortunate running animation, though.
I guess saurok or saberon seem like the best chances at a reasonable addition due to their size and being based off a preexisting model, although Iād be worried about them lacking a mage option.
Fair Sorry for being a bit meh about them! Theyāre a valid choice too, just not my number one, and I would really hope more lore is added to them myself ><
I wish all races had mages
Ugh, I feel that. In my opinion, the only horde monster race worth a damn is the tauren, and Iāve been waiting for another mage-compatible one ever since. Worgen going alliance was such a letdown for me because of that.
This is something Iāve tried to show off when I started this megathread.
Funny thing is when I first saw them, I didnāt think they had much of a chance and that they would be relegated to mook-status, having minimal lore and just there for us to beat up during the expansion. A yearning for them to be something more, but not a whole lot to go on.
It wasnāt until much later, during BfA, that I researched them and saw the possibility. It wasnāt just because I particularly wanted them, but I saw potential for them as a playable Horde race. It makes me glad I went with making this megathread to try and make a case for them.
I guess Iām the main researcher of Saurok and likely one of the main supporters leading the charge in supporting them becoming a playable Horde race. Maybe there are others trying to do that on other forms of media, in which itād be cool to band together if so.
At any rate, Iāll keep marching for them to become a playable Horde race as best as I can. Hopefully, itāll become a reality someday!

My God! What cruelty.
Profiling a Charr and a Worgen, talking about options for customization is cowardly.
Current Worgen options do not even reach 1/4 of what the Charr have at their disposal.
I even feel sad to see how well a Charr is served in this regard and how much warcraft is deficient for worgen in this area.
āPlayers will have dials to adjust the reptilian, mammalian, humanoid, and other attributes of their Tulnar character in the Character creator.ā
I have to wonder how diverse the customizations will be. Itās hard for me to imagine there being a lot of options if theyāre going to stuff 3 or more different species into one race. I think I read rumors of avian options also being possible.
As I mentioned, I would hope reptilian options lets people make races like Argonians from the Elder Scrolls series or Iksar from Everquest, as opposed to humans with reptilian featured stapled onto them like the Au Ra in FFXIV.
I honestly prefer Lizardmen races to be their own race slot on character creation screens. Something like Saurok would have 100% focus on adding customization options as opposed to lumping said features in with other different species on a dial.
Guess weāll see more when Ashes of Creation gets more work done on it. Iāll share whatever they do in order to potentially show off some Saurok customization idea inspiration.
I was looking at the Lizardfolk skills/features from D&D 5e and came across an amusing one:
āHungry Jaws. In battle, you can throw yourself into a vicious feeding frenzy. As a bonus action, you can make a special attack with your bite. If the attack hits, it deals its normal damage, and you gain temporary hit points (minimum of 1) equal to your Constitution modifier, and you canāt use this trait again until you finish a short or long rest.ā
Thinking about Saurok utilizing their teeth as a racial, I find the idea of one taking a bite out of an enemyās flesh and gaining some health to be a bit amusing. Especially in a circumstance where an enemy may have knocked the Saurokās weapon from their hands mockingly, only to have the Saurok just pounce and start biting and clawing.
Not too sure if gaining health back would work in terms of balancing, but at the very least, it could leave a bleeding DoT after doing a bit of damage. I do like the idea of just eating the flesh to gain back some health, though. Seems fitting in a way.
I mean, a Saurok has a tail, claws, and sharp teeth. Might as well utilize them as best as you can!
