The Unofficial Saurok Playable Race Discussion Megathread! šŸŠ

Awhile ago, I mentioned a game called ā€œAmber Isle,ā€ which is a dinosaur version of Animal Crossing and Recettear combined. It comes out in October on Steam and Nintendo Switch for anyone interested:

Of particular interest is the customization for your dino character. A couple of the devs go through different options and show off examples of the character you can make here:

It looks like I could make a Saurok-like character, which is pretty awesome. There are also all kinds of customization options here that would work well for Saurok customization idea inspiration.

If the game interests you, it it currently planned to come out:

-October 10th on Steam (Demo available)

-October 31st on Nintendo Switch

I might look into reviews of it and see how it is on the Switch, since Iā€™d get it there. Maybe Iā€™ll make my own Saurokasaurus character if I play it. :sauropod: :lizard:

If speculation about Warcraft Direct occurring in late October/early November holds true, then we could be getting more information about the stream this month. Should we get anything Saurok related announced, I will be quick to share.

So with the anniversary event coming up, it looks like you can get some titles:

They cost 100 Timewarped Badges, and one in particular caught my eye:

I might have to get this title, as itā€™s really fitting for me for obvious reasons. :lizard:

This lizard has learned how to make snacks appear and is working on trying to make playable Horde Saurok appear! You too can help with this spell! Just read below!

With the beginning of each month, I make in-game suggestions for each race I want to see playable along with a mention of their respective megathreads on these forums. While it is far from a guarantee of seeing our dreams come true, I do think every little bit helps, and doing it monthly I feel is reasonable and not that intrusive or annoying.

If youā€™re interested in doing the same for races you want to see playable, I made a little guide on how to do so in-game here:

Also on Oct. 21st, National Reptile Awareness Day occurs! Iā€™ll be making a special post here and in the Sethrak megathread when that day comes! :lizard: :snake:

Once again, Iā€™ve come across a pretty awesome art piece on DeviantArt! This time, itā€™s a ā€œLizardfolk Swamp Shaman Sorcerer.ā€ Not sure if I read that right, but it is in the title. This was created by Dissunder and was uploaded to the website on May 9th, 2024.

ā€œLizardfolk Swamp Shaman Sorcerer Adoptable DnD 6$ā€ by Dissunder on DeviantArt.

This is pretty great for Saurok idea inspiration. Itā€™s helpful to see Lizardmen as a caster class and wearing fitting gear. And seeing the scene in a swamp area helps a lot to imagine if Saurok were to reside in Unā€™goro Crater, which is just one of several ideas weā€™ve talked about before.

As usual, Iā€™ll be sharing more Lizardmen artwork in general as I see it for playable Horde Saurok idea inspiration! :lizard:

Saurok would be such a good player race.

When it comes to Halloween, there is one IRL lizard I constantly think of: the gila monster!

Iā€™ve talked about this lizard before a few times when it comes to playable Saurok idea inspiration, but I figured it was worth talking about again since it would make for a great Saurok scale customization option.

A few videos below go over facts of them:

Often times when I look at the gila monster, I think of how awesome that scale color pattern would look for Saurok of several classes. I had even considered it for my Saurok Death Knight character if that scale customization pattern ever became a choice for them. I could easily make a Halloween design for them too in that case. :jack_o_lantern:

Weā€™re really lucky that there is so much potential for Saurok as a playable race. From customization options to lore, they have so much going for them that I didnā€™t really realize until I did some research and started this megathread.

I still hold getting playable Horde Saurok becoming a thing being one of my biggest dreams. This is on the level of getting a most wanted character playable for Smash Bros.

Hopefully weā€™ll see that happen someday, and Iā€™ll keep hope for it! :crossed_fingers: :lizard:

Blizzard has officially announced the WoW anniversary eventā€™s date, starting on October 22nd:

Didnā€™t see anything Saurok related in this event so far. Iā€™ll be taking a closer look when this event goes live of course, but not really expecting anything.

However, Iā€™m thinking Iā€™ll be getting that ā€œPandaria Ethusiastā€ title to use for this character. Very much fitting for many reasons.

Hopefully Saurok will be able to enjoy events like this someday! :lizard:

So not really Saurok specific related, but Wowhead posted an article showing off two datamined mounts that seem to hint towards MoP Classic being a thing in the future:

Itā€™s possible this is going to be announced during the upcoming Warcraft Direct, of which the date hasnā€™t been officially announced yet.

I think itā€™s safe to say that MoP Classic is going to be a thing. Unfortunately, in terms of MMOā€™s, Iā€™ve only really had time to focus on Retail, so I donā€™t know if Iā€™ll really do much of MoP Classic if anything, much as it is my favorite expansion.

Although, it would be neat to get some MoP related events in Retail to celebrate MoP Classic being a thing. MoP has been getting a lot of love in general from Blizzard, so maybe we could see some celebration in Retail.

And of course, one of the best ways to celebrate such an event would be to have some Saurok related events in Retail, leading to them becoming a playable Horde race. Just saying!

On another note, Amber Isle, the dinosaur game that is Animal Crossing mixed with Recettear, is officially out on Steam today! Below is the launch trailer for it:

As for the Switch versionā€¦it has unfortunately been delayed from Oct. 31st to Nov. 21st. Hopefully it gives them time to iron things out.

In terms of Saurok, Iā€™m gonna keep an eye out for videos that show off the character creator in-depth. Itā€™s a pretty robust system with lots of options that would work well for Saurok customization ideas.

Anyway, whenever we get official announcements of MoP Classic, Iā€™ll be sure to report on it. :lizard:

National Reptile Awareness Day is coming up pretty quickly. I might focus on some IRL reptile related posts up to it, both for fun and the usual Saurok idea inspiration.

If youā€™ve never heard of the holiday, itā€™s a day to learn about reptiles in general and their importance to ecosystems. Reptiles tend to get a bad rap, so National Reptile Awareness Day helps with that. Itā€™s something I think would make for a fun in-game event if I ever had the time and resources to plan such a thing.

Anyway, in fitting for the month of October, here are some videos of some komodo dragons enjoying some pumpkins:

Makes me think that Saurok would like pumpkins. :jack_o_lantern::lizard:

Came across a neat video that both goes over some bearded dragon facts and also has scale colors that would make for a great Saurok customization option:

I feel like with bearded dragons being one of the most popular lizards, Saurok could have a customization option similar to them. One of the cool things about Saurok is that since Mogu used all kinds of lizards to make Saurok, there would be a huge variety of customization option potential from various IRL reptiles.

Itā€™s also interesting to see a wild bearded lizard. Usually I see videos of them as pets, such as these videos:

Makes me think Saurok would love exploring the world (of Warcraft!). :lizard:

With National Reptile Awareness Day coming up next week, I wanted to go over reptile intelligence, which of course has importance to Saurok.

Most people tend to think that reptiles arenā€™t very smart, often having little to no emotions. Far from the truth, in fact, as many reptiles are really smart. This video shows a few of the smartest reptiles:

One of the smartest reptiles is the monitor lizard. Some general facts including their intelligence are shown in the video below:

Some reptiles can even be trained, as shown below:

So as you can see, reptiles are far from being dumb animals.

And for Saurok, that should also apply. Most people think theyā€™re dumb beasts, and sure, some Saurok are close to being feral-like, but theyā€™re not necessarily dumb as a whole.

Keep in mind that the Saurok were a big reason the evil Mogu empire fell. They developed tactics against them and formed raiding parties of their vaults. They even managed to take out an emperor at one point and escape afterwards. So theyā€™re pretty cunning in several ways.

Should we see playable Saurok someday, weā€™d also see that intelligence grow even more. They wouldnā€™t be primitive as shown before since Saurok would be getting fleshed out (no Mogu flesh shaping shenanigans involved) and evolving as a race in several ways in such a scenario.

Iā€™ll likely show some more IRL reptile facts and videos for celebrating National Reptile Awareness Day coming up and for the usual Saurok idea inspiration! :lizard:

Part of National Reptile Awareness Day, which is coming up in a few days, is the importance of reptiles in the wild IRL. They actually have quite a bit of importance to ecosystems.

This video below is a presentation that goes over facts of various reptiles while also talking about their roles in the wild:

One of the reptiles shown in the above video, is the rhinoceros iguana. This video focuses on facts of that lizard:

Seeing as Saurok could have horn and spike customization options, I could see the rhinoceros iguana working well for Saurok customization idea inspiration! :lizard:

Another part of National Reptile Awareness Day is addressing the idea that reptiles donā€™t have emotions or intelligence. People tend to think theyā€™re just boring blank slates with no personalities whatsoever. As it turns out, a lot of them do show emotions like affection, and many reptiles are capable of having their own unique personalities.

The following videos show examples of reptiles showing love and affection, and while this isnā€™t found with every reptile ever, it shows what they are capable of:

So as you can see, reptiles are far from being emotionless and dumb.

And as Iā€™ve said before, Saurok can be more than angry lizards that go RAWR! Weā€™ve seen them fleshed out a bit from visiting a temple and an underwater bar, and also working on a pirate crew, so they are evolving as time goes on. Sure, they wouldnā€™t be total cuddle bunnies, but Iā€™m sure they would be capable of showing emotions other than ā€œEAT YOUR FACE!ā€ that they are mostly shown having.

Hopefully someday, weā€™ll see Saurok have a chance to show that. :lizard:

As mentioned before, National Reptile Awareness Day is a day to learn about reptiles and their importance to IRL ecosystems!

As per yearly tradition, Iā€™ll link some videos below to celebrate the occasion:

Huzzah!

Pretty happy to have this title, as itā€™s really fitting for obvious reasons. :lizard:

Didnā€™t see any Saurok NPCā€™s at the event unfortunately. I did see some ā€œHoliday Celebrantā€ NPCā€™s that are apparently on rotation of some kind. Maybe if the rotation is on MoP, weā€™d see some Saurok there. I mean, we see NPCā€™s like Quillboars there, so it wouldnā€™t be too out of place to see Saurok there.

Iā€™ll keep an eye out for any Saurok findings as I visit the event area and do dailies and such. Not that I expect much, if anything, but you never know. :lizard:

Warcraft Direct will be November 13. Should anything Saurok be announced, I will share.

I honestly donā€™t know what all to expect with this Warcraft Direct. I assume if there are announcements for Retail WoW, itā€™ll be TWW related, in which some current hints are an area further underground and involve the Haranir/Harronir. Iā€™d be surprised if there was anything Saurok related, but maybe weā€™ll get lucky.

Also in my being very busy IRL and getting under the weather lately, I forgot about doing a Sauroktober celebration of some sort. Itā€™s something Iā€™d like to do, but I havenā€™t really much idea of what exactly aside from doing what I usually do in here. Maybe Iā€™ll figure something out someday.

And according to the in-game calendar, Hallowā€™s End should be going live in Retail WoW today. I imagine Saurok would get ready to celebrate like this:

Hopefully theyā€™ll get to celebrate Hallowā€™s End and other holidays someday! :lizard:
