Wowhead made an article regarding some updated Earthen customization:
It looks like you may be able to customization gems on each separate shoulders and other parts of the body.
For Saurok, it could be utilized to allow you to edit horns and spikes and such, depending on what all is available for their customization. I canāt remember if you could edit Tauren horns separately, but I donāt see why it couldnāt be implemented for Saurok if they ever became a playable race.
Although, Iām not sure how the gems will look on Earthen when it comes to armor. Not sure if there is an option to have them show up in armor or hide them under armor. Something Iāll need to look into, since I donāt know if Saurok spikes and such would be treated the same way when it comes to armor. It might look a bit odd to have some armor transmogs with protruding spikes or horns coming out of them. Also a bit hard to visualize.
Itās something Iāll keep an eye on and report back here, since it would likely affect how Saurok customization would look like.
Some time ago, Blizzard posted on X, formerly Twitter, a general schedule of Cataclysm Classicās patch timeline:
It looks like the final Cataclysm Classic patch will be January of next year. This means that MoP Classic could get announced sometime this year and possibly released shortly after Cataclysm Classicās last major patch.
I honestly donāt know how many expansions Classic will go through, but I feel like MoP Classic is very likely. MoP Remix will likely end within a few months, so launching MoP Classic next year would make it a little bit more fresh. Not to mention that Pandaria has been getting a lot of love lately in various ways, so Iād be surprised if MoP Classic wasnāt a thing.
Assuming MoP Classic does become a thing, Iām not entirely sure I will play through it. I donāt recall there being any removed content that was Saurok related, so I doubt Iād find anything new. Though there could always be something Iāve overlooked, but I have looked pretty thoroughly through Pandaria for Saurok related stuff.
I also find it hard to find time to focus much on WoW Classic in general. Retail WoW takes up a lot of my MMORPG time and there is always something I can do in it that would be practical long-term. For Classic, since it is currently separate from Retail WoW, I donāt really feel as inclined to do stuff Iāve done before in Retail WoW all over again. It was a little different with Vanilla, since it had questlines and such that were long since removed, but I feel like my interest has waned some with Cataclysm Classic. Not to mention the lack of multi mob and quest/tradeskill node tapping has been really driving me nuts.
Weāll see if I decide to do something with MoP Classic if it becomes a thing, since it is my favorite expansion (not just for Saurok of course). Iāll still keep an eye out and report any news on it when it is officially announced. Maybe on MoPās anniversary (September 25th, 2012) weād see something special that day, whether it is a MoP Classic announcement or maybe something else.
Also, MoP Remix comes out in 5 days and Iāll definitely be checking that out since there could be some new stuff to report on here and characters and rewards in it transfer back to Retail WoW!
Around the time that BfA was announced, I recalled a video interview with a Blizzard employee who, while naming some Allied Races, happened to mention Mogu among them. I recently remembered this interview and managed to find it.
This interview was done in 2018 with Daniel Stahl, a developer. The video is below, with the timestamp of interest being at the 5:28 mark if it doesnāt take you there automatically:
With regards to that pesky giant sword stabbed into the planet, the first thing mentioned was āWhat does that mean for the Mogu?ā And then followed by a mention of Dark Iron Dwarves and a general Allied Race mention with them having to pick a side.
Thus at the time, there seemed to be some thought that Mogu may have been considered to be an Allied Race during BfA. It wouldāve been a random mention otherwise of us wondering what the evil Mogu clans, remember this was before the Rajani Mogu were a thing, thought about it. Bit of a weird thing to imagine what some enemy faction off another continent wouldāve thought about it, aside from either indifference, panic, or opportunistic thoughts.
Now obviously, we never got a Mogu Allied Race during BfA. We did go back to Pandaria briefly and met with the Rajani Mogu, who at that point remained a neutral NPC faction. But I wanted to think on the idea some and speculate what could have been, especially when it comes to Saurok as an Allied Race.
The important thing to point out with the idea of a Mogu Allied Race was this was stated before the expansion came out. Itās likely that if they did become an Allied Race, they wouldāve only been on one faction. There was a war abrewinā in the world (of Warcraft!), and Allied Races at that time had to pick a side. Which leaves the question of what faction Mogu wouldāve joined and what wouldāve been the opposite factionās counterpart.
Now, the obviously counterpart in this scenario wouldāve been Saurok. Iām assuming that the return to Pandaria wouldāve been expanded a bit more, and if war between the Horde and Alliance were still going, it wouldāve made some sense to have a tribe of Saurok going at the playable Mogu faction at the time, which I could only assume wouldāve become the Rajani Mogu. It fit the storyline of both sides joining up and fighting each other or, if it occurred at the end as it did in our reality, wouldāve been something that would be around the time that the Horde and Alliance wouldāve learned the true meaning of Winter Veil, saw the pointless fighting between the Saurok and Mogu when a greater threat loomed, and wouldāve gotten everyone to work together to beat up the big bad. Again!
I can only assume with this combo, that Saurok wouldāve been Horde and Mogu Alliance. I strongly believe Saurok fit the Horde well and Mogu, being more regal, would have some more arguments in allying with the Alliance at the time. If you want more of an argument for that, you should take a gander at the Rajani Mogu megathread:
But the thing is, we didnāt really get Allied race pairs that were, for the most part, directly tied to the opposite factionās chosen Allied Race. Kul Tirans and Zandalari partly did at best, and others didnāt really have much connection with each other save for some of the Legion races living on the same continent. Unless Iām forgetting something of course, which is always a possibility.
So I canāt say for certain if Saurok were considered as an Allied Race and if they mightāve been considered to be paired up with Mogu. Iād like to think that maybe they would have been, since Horde Saurok and Alliance Mogu wouldāve been a combination that wouldāve fit the theme and storylines that went on in BfA.
Still, it is interesting to see Mogu specifically mentioned with the talk of Allied Races. Since we didnāt see it happen in BfA, Iām curious if itās something that could happen in the future. We are dealing with a lot of Titan related stuff the next two expansions.
Granted, Blizzard seems to be leaning more on neutral races these days, but there is a hope that weād see Horde Saurok paired with Alliance Mogu if that ever became a thing. I still think there are great storyline opportunities with both sides having titan knowledge that needs to be combined and both sides working together in order to have a chance against whatever big bads are in the future.
Otherwise, itās hard for me to see Saurok wanting to join a faction when Mogu are a part of it. They kinda rightfully have some opinions on the Mogu in general, and while things could be written around it, I think itād fit better with them on opposite factions.
Anyway, this interview was something I wanted to ramble a bit on. Not sure what changed then, if anything planned got shelved for later, or if Saurok had a chance at Allied Race status during BfA. But itās still something worth discussing!
Horde Saurok and Alliance Rajani Mogu seems to work well as a pairing. There is a lot of story potential and they could potentially fit in upcoming storylines.
Of course, Midnight seems to be Elf focused, but depending on how The Last Titan is designed, that pairing could fit there. Granted, weāre going back to Northrend for that one, so I donāt know if it would be too cold for Saurok to be involved in storylines there.
Still, I like the idea of there being titan related knowledge that the Rajani Mogu have involving artifacts that the playable Saurok tribe wouldāve collected from Mogu raid vaults. So with the Horde working with the Saurok and Alliance working with the Rajani Mogu and trying to get them to work together to combine those titan related things before things get very dire in the world (of Warcraft!) has a lot of potential.
Likely something Iāll post about in more depth as I get inspired to. A lot of the focus on Pandaria lately also has me a bit excited and wanting to discuss it some more in case we end up going back there sometime.
Tomorrow is the big day! MoP Remix is scheduled to release tomorrow and Blizzard has an overview trailer to showcase its features:
Wowhead also has a page for rewards, though I assume more will be added after MoP Remix goes live:
I see a lot of talk about Battle Pets being something you can get from the event with the bronze currency, but I have yet to see a list of what is available. The only two Battle Pets Iāve seen are from achievements, so maybe things havenāt been datamined or shown off on the PTR yet. Still curious if there could be a Saurok child Battle Pet potentially, but weāll see when the event launches I guessā¦
Also, if you want some videos going into a bit more detail on the event, SignsofKelani has made a couple videos of interest:
As I said before, Iāve noticed and enjoyed the focus and love MoP has been getting lately. It is my favorite expansion and by proxy, Saurok are getting a little bit of the spotlight also. I donāt know if anything will come from it, whether weāll go back to Pandaria on Retail or if itāll factor into any upcoming expansion storylines, but itās still interesting to note all the Pandaria related events and such going on.
Anyway, I will of course be focusing on MoP Remix for quite a bit. So far, there isnāt very much new from my understanding, so I donāt really expect a whole lot to report unless there are some special events like in Season of Discovery that pop up, but it may be good to go through MoP again in case I notice anything of interest. Sometimes it is good to go over things we reported in case we miss something or have new thoughts over our findings.
So hopefully things go smoothly when MoP Remix launches tomorrow. And of course Iāll keep an eye out for anything of Saurok interest to report back!
MoP Remix has gone live! Complete with a launch trailer:
Iāve started playing it and havenāt run into too many issues thankfully so far. I did look some at the rewards vendors and didnāt see any vendors with Battle Pets. A bit odd, since some videos mention Battle Pets as rewards and the only ones Iāve seen come from achievements. Iāll keep an eye out in case Iām missing anything.
At the moment, Iām focusing on just one character to try to do as much as possible. At the same time, Iām reminding myself of MoPās storylines so I can keep an eye out for anything Saurok related I havenāt reported back here yet or may have a new perspective on something already covered. Or maybe there could be something new somewhere. Definitely will be keeping an eye out for that!
Anyway, Iām off for some adventure and potential Saurok research! Yarr!
Iāve mentioned many times the idea of the Pandaren on Pandaria trying to negotiate with the Saurok. Going through MoP Remix, I was reminded again of this with the Horde questline in Jade Forest:
āLorewalker Cho says: The saurok have plagued this land since the time of the mogu. They are impossible to negotiate with. But we never stop trying! We fight them only as a last resort.ā
Impossible of course may not have been entirely impossible, given that weāve since seen many Saurok working with others or visiting places like a temple or underwater bar. Just depends on the Saurok individuals or tribes you deal with, perhaps.
It makes me wonder if the Pandaren ever managed to make peace with a tribe or more since then. Iād like to think so, especially since there are still evil Mogu clans around and with future storylines involving Titan stuff, itās likely they may be up to no good. Would make for a fun storyline.
I also wanted to point out that this line is only in the Horde version of the questline. In the Alliance questline, if I remember correctly, you do entirely different quests and Lorewalker Cho doesnāt really mention anything Saurok related to Alliance players. Only to Horde players.
Iām sure this is just me building my tin foil hat with these ponderings. Still, it is a fun thought going with all the MoP focus lately and such. Expectations tempered, but hope still flourishes.
Anyway, as I go through MoP Remix, Iāll keep an eye out for anything else to revisit in here or anything new. Gotta leave no stones unturned when it comes to Saurok research!
I looked into the four Saurok mace weapon appearances in MoP Remix and from my understanding, they might be obtained only from drops from random mobs and possibly in bronze caches. Wowhead mentions this on the rewards page under the āUnused Weapon Models - World Dropsā section:
āMany unused weapons from Mists of Pandariaās data are finally obtainable in Remix, including alternate tints. Some of them have been reported to drop from open-world mobs or be contained in caches like Cache of Infinite Treasure. We will update this section further as more details are known, and you can help us populate drop data through the Wowhead Client.ā
The four Saurok mace appearances are shown here:
And the Wowhead page for each are below:
So if I understand correctly, from what we know at the time of this post, itās a random drop from mobs or bronze caches. And Iām assuming that because account-wide transmog items from drops isnāt live yet (note that you can get account wide transmog items of any weapon/armoy type regardless of class from bronze purchases in MoP Remix, again from my understanding), that you may need to be a class that can equip 1-Handed Maces to get these weapon appearances. Hopefully that assumption would be wrong, but I can only assume that is the case for now.
Sounds like something Iāll need to pick up with an alt, since Iām going through MoP Remix on a Hunter. Although I wish there was more concrete info on how to get these four appearances. If anyone knows how to get them, Iād appreciate the information on how you got them!
Having played MoP Remix for a few days, Iāve accumulated some bronze currency to get some of the mounts available! I thought I would share a few that few Saurok very well.
And Iāve had Son of Galleon before, so Iāll just link the screenshot I took then:
I also got this neat Jade pterrodax mount that caught my eye when I first saw the rewards:
It normally is hunched over in its idle stance, but I caught it in an idle animation and opted to show this screenshot so you can see the mount a bit better.
Seeing some Lizardmen races ride pterodactyls, like the Lizardmen/Seraphon from Warhammer, makes me think the pterrodax mounts could fit Saurok very well. Even if they have a Zandalari theme to them. Iāll likely grab the others, especially since Iām focusing on MoP Remix specific rewards first.
Anyway, if I see any other particular rewards that would go well with Saurok or are Saurok related, Iāll be sure to share them whenever I get them!
I used to want saurok in MoP. Now I like Sethrak more. The friendly Sethrak worship a loa and hang out in Zandalar, so Iād rather see Vorrikās followers for Horde or neutral.
Refti would be cool for Alliance as theyāre related to Tyr.
Nothing wrong with that at all. WoW has continued on for years and peopleās tastes and interests change overtime with it. And Sethrak would make for a great neutral race, in my opinion.
We could always get both Sethrak and Saurok as playable races someday. Theyāre completely different races with different cultures and even based on different animals. Getting the best of both worlds (of Warcraft!) by having them both be playable someday would be great, as the game could always use more reptilian races!
With regards to loa, I can see a playable Saurok faction following one. Some of the current Saurok tribes to follow a wild god, like how the Skumblade worshipped Kros, and I could see a playable faction of Saurok following one that encourages things like hunting and such. It would be very fitting and easy to write for if that were the case.
There is plenty of room on that character creation screen for both Sethrak and Saurok, and I hope weāll see them both playable someday!
Something else Saurok related in the rewards from MoP Remix is the ability to buy the three sets of Saurok Stalker armor for mail class users! Those are the main transmog sets I use for this character currently!
As you may recall, there are three different colors that related to three different raid tiers. Going through Throne of Thunder on each difficulty with characters who use mail as their primary army type (until all armor types unlock for all classes in the future) was how I got mine, but if you got some extra bronze, you could always buy the set.
If youāre interested in farming the pieces instead, I will warn that the red LFR version requires a couple of pieces that drop either from a few MoP world bosses or I think from expeditions in BfA. It was fairly annoying to get the drops, which I think the pieces drop from Nalak and Oondasta, so please keep that in mind if you go to farm it.
Anyway, Iāll link the sets below with a screenshot and bronze price for anyone interested. Note that the boots cover the full feet normally. Iām just a Troll who is doomed to not be able to wear most shoes in the majority of transmogs, sadlyā¦
Red (LFR Difficulty) for 5,000 bronze:
Green (Normal Difficulty) for 5,000 bronze:
Blue (Heroic Difficulty) for 5,000 bronze:
Despite being a Hunter specific transmog, you should be able to use it for other mail class wearers like Shamans.
I still try to imagine what it would look like to see Saurok wearing these. Wouldnāt be the weirdest thing they could wear, I am sure!
Another reminiscence post inspired from MoP Remix! This one is the Dagger in the Dark scenario.
As you may recall, this scenario is where you are with Volājin as you go into the Darkhatched Tribe territory to investigate the Mogu magic within the territory that was used to create Saurok. Garrosh wanted to use that magic for himself to create his own warrior army, which I assume wouldāve been Saurok if he had succeeded.
The scenario is one weāve talked about a few times. Volājin is appalled at Saurok being created with dark magic, which I assume the Darkhatched may have had darker magic used in their creation compared to other Saurok. I mean, it is in their name, but I donāt recall seeing much difference between them and other Saurok tribes.
Also as a side note, Darkhatched Saurok have apparently tamed some of the bats in there and use them as pets:
So we have basilisks, turtles, and bats as known pets of Saurok. Itās an interesting thing to point out of how Saurok can form a bond with animals. Moreso with some of the SKumblade Tribe and the basilisk pets, since that is shown a lot more in detail.
Anyway, despite Volājinās reaction, beings made with the flesh shaping magic arenāt all evil, even if the process itself was āblack magic.ā Grummies were created with the flesh shaping magic and theyāre not evil at all for the most part. And weāve seen some Saurok that arenāt inherently evil also, and itās not like they asked to be created via that method. So can you really blame the beings created this way if theyāre not all evil? Something that would work well with a playable Saurok factionās storyline.
Also according to the flesh-shaping wiki article, even the titans used flesh-shaping magic:
"Upon entering the Dark Rookery, Volājin felt the residue from the creation of the saurok. According to him, the magic that could remake something so completely came from the dawn of time, and the titans had used such magic in their acts of creation. "
It makes some sense, given that Mogu used Flesh-shaping a lot and the Mogu were created by the Titans. Makes me wonder if that could be something in the upcoming storylines with all the Titan related stuff. Also makes me wonder if Saurok could have a potential role of some size too since they do have a link to the titans with the Mogu and suchā¦
And of course I have to mention the idea of Garrosh forming a Saurok army. Then I imagine Saurok joining the Horde and being treated as equals. Kind of a funny thing to stick it to Garrosh in that regard in thinking about it.
And come to think of it, more Horde and Saurok related stuff mentioned in MoP which happens in a Horde focused scenario. Really gives a lot to think about along with the other stuff Iāve mentionedā¦
Ok, yes, a lot of it is a coincidence, but hey, a Darkspear Troll can dream, canāt he?
Iāll continue to look around at more things to reminisce about as I continue to play MoP Remix. Iām sure there is a lot more I can go over again. Maybe a second or third look can provide some new insight!
While we currently donāt have playable Horde Saurok yet, if youāre wanting to run around as a Saurok as you play MoP remix, you can do so in the Isle of Thunder!
As discussed many timjes before, sometimes there is a daily in your factionās quest hub that sends you to the Saurok area, where you can get an illusion buff to run around as a Skumblade Saurok. If there isnāt a quest daily for that, youāll have to check again on another day.
The following quests will unlock your Saurok illusion that works only in the Skumblade area, again reminding that itās part of a daily quest, so you may have to wait until the Skumblade area dailies are up before you can get it:
Alliance version:
Horde version:
The illusion only works in the Skumblade area, the Saurok model you turn into is random each time your illusion activates, and youāre always running and standing on all fours. However, your regular jump turns into a super jump of sorts that isnāt controllable once youāre in the air. You can also talk to the Saurok there, some of which have interesting things to say, which Iāll go over again in another post.
Interestingly, according to a Wowhead comment, if you stand still and /dance, there wonāt be a dance, but youāll stand on two feet. It cancels as soon as you move, however. Still good to know if you want to take screenshots there standing.
If youāre a pet class like a Hunter, your pets also change into a few random things each time your illusion activates. Iāve seen a basilisk pet, a maggot larvae grub thingie, a happy looking filth slime, and a tiny roach that is very hard to see.
I took a few screenshots to show that off, trying to get as good of an angle as I could.
Iāll be talking about the Skumblade Tribe and those basilisks you see again in an upcoming post. While itās fun to run around as a Saurok, I still hope weāll be able to make actual Horde Saurok characters someday!
Wowhead posted an article on the Earthen Allied Race starting area. Donāt worry, I wonāt talk about specifics to avoid spoilers, but for those interested, the article is here:
Without going into specifics, you get some brief flavor text with choices for your Earthen. It seems like it is more RP-oriented as opposed to anything lasting, but still interesting to see.
Itās interesting to see an Allied Race get a bit of an expanded starting experience. It opens the door for some RP opportunities also. Makes me think that future Allied Races could get something similar. Possibly Core Races as well, though they could get their own starting areas like Dracthyr, Goblins, and Worgen did.
For Saurok, assuming theyāre be an Allied Race over a Core Race, a lot would depend on their storyline and tribeās culture when it comes to such flavor text. Maybe if there was a uniting of several Saurok tribes, you could choose which tribe your Saurok comes from, for example. Maybe there would be some choice in how you worship or show respect to the wild god or gods the Saurok tribe or tribes would follow. Iām sure there are plenty of possibilities.
As we get more Allied and Core Races in the future, Iāll be sure to report on how their starting experiences are. Still hoping Horde Saurok will be among those future playable races someday!
