The Unofficial High Elf Discussion Megathread

Hm. My watch must be wrong.

I thought it was time for a tired old “but muh models” argument but it’s actually “there’s not enough of them” o’clock.

/yawn

These old arguments get boring to read. Can’t you guys come up with new ones? I mean every single argument you present can be refuted with lore, previous dev decisions, or just plan common sense.

It’s REALLY hard not to condescend to y’all as you seem to be unable to comprehend even the most basic principles being discussed on this thread. That you come in here at all with the same tired arguments expecting to sidetrack this thread is sad.

“There’s not enough of them.” - Refuted and, given the creation of Void Elves as a “crack squadron” formed from a one-time event, not a valid argument. We have orcs from an alternate dimension. The rules of “population” are out the window.

“Blood Elves are High Elves.” - No. Blood Elves WERE High Elves who now call themselves Blood Elves. The same as Void Elves were Blood Elves. High Elves are the blue eyed, fair skinned children of Quel’thalas that never let go of their original heritage. They stand beside the Alliance and they’re everywhere.

“But muh models, faction identity, etc” - How exactly does one particular race become the sole ringbearer for the faction identify of the Horde? What is the fear here? That a lot of Blood Elf players will bolt for Alliance if they have a fair skinned elf option on the other faction? Is the desire to play Horde really that fragile? Do you seriously think it’s going to destroy faction balance if High Elves are added to the game? If you do, then I have a bridge to sell you. The fact that most of you post on/play Blood Elves just screams “I only chose Horde because I wanted to play a fair skinned elf so don’t make me regret my decision by adding another fair skinned elf on the opposite faction cause that undermines the last ___ years of my life.” This is honestly THE hardest argument to NOT feel condescending towards y’all over. Seriously. Game pixles. That’s all they are. YOU are NOT an actual Blood Elf. No one is trying to “steal your identity.”

“You already have High Elves playable on the Alliance and they’re the most played Allied Race.” - No. We have Void Elves. Stop worrying that there are people who are playing Void Elves who would rather play High Elves or are critical of Void Elves. I played a human and gnome and I was insanely critical of the models for years. In a game with limited customization, there’s likely genuine complaints about most models in the game. The fact that people are playing Velfs AND critical of them proves that even though they’re the most played AR, it’s hardly a slam dunk success considering a percentage of the people playing them would rather play an actual High Elf.

Just stop. Stop making up lore (“maybe not more than 100” or “everyone hates the High Elves”). Stop freaking out about your models (obviously they’d make them different from Blood Elves aesthetically). Stop worrying about the numbers of them out there (one recruitment scenario in Dalaran or Outland or a portal through time and we’ll be hip deep in High Elves even if we didn’t just rally all the ones we see in Azeroth proper).

The game will not break if High Elves are added. Your game experience will be no different than it was the day before High Elves were added. Maybe go find a race you’d like added to the game and start your own megathread instead of coming in here and trying to sideline this thread with your very … VERY … tiring and unoriginal counterpoints.

Would be nice to have more variation, thought, like darker skins and tatoos.

tbf, she is a blood elf. she died defending quel’thalas as its ranger general and would still be there as its ranger general if arthas never existed

tbf, if Arthas hadn’t existed she’d still be there as a HIGH Elf and they’d all be HIGH Elves instead of the BLOOD Elves they became except for the elves who didn’t become Blood Elves and stayed HIGH ELVES.

tbf, you already maligned the Ranger General title on Vereesa but it’s ok when Sylvanas held it AS A HIGH ELF?

Incorrect, she died a High Elf, blood elves were not a thing until shortly after the sunwell was destroyed. She was already a banshee by then.

tbf, asking Fyre to keep lore straight when she constantly makes up her own isn’t a fair ask.

i will just provide my good friend Morleys quote for your asnwer

the alliance high elves are relics of blood elves on the brink of extinction in BFA. hence their absence from the faction conflict.

tbf, apparently theres a flavor NPC on an airship(which i never noticed tbh) and the usual flavor portal NPCs. so as usual they arent really out there in big numbers and a visible part of the alliance

never mind the fact the lore and devs say high elves are blood elves now and that they are part of the faction identity of the horde and a core race. lets just copy paste pale pretty blood elves

thats true! :+1: it would say high elf as my race right now

Wouldn’t he be playing a void elf then (which he is) because void elves are the continuation of the blood elves?

Really, I don’t think there was an Old horde either. Thrall was passed the position of warchief directly from doomhammer. So it is also a continuation. “Old Horde” is just a whitewashing of the past.

tbf, you didn’t quote the whole sentence.

tbf, that’s what you do: pick and choose what you want and, when that fails, make lore up

tbf,I’m not surprised you added a “lore and devs” cause I actually think you ARE Ion posting on the topic because only he could be that openly obtuse and unyielding.

I saw rececntly an OP that was flaged for this: she wasn’t talking only about the Voldemort Race (High Elves), i call it like that because can’t be pronounced. He was talking about something that include the Voldemort Race issue among other things. Actually the main subject of the post it’s claiming about all allied races in the Alliance that she don’t want, and that people didn’t ask for.
Personally, I don’t suport that a Thread with the Voldemort Race as the main subject must be banned and send it to Voldemort Race Oficial Thread as if were a disease that must be quarentined. Even so, i can tolerate it because i’m not interested about fight against that people who dislike, so much, that race, and also i could understand that can be considerer spam (wich under my point of wiev spam it’s when one person or one organisation spam the same mesage, not when several diferent people spam the same mesage. I call to that last thing: popular acclamation)

Anyway, but when that race it’s just one point in a thread, and not the main subject, and even so the OP get flaged… well my friend, that’s at least ridiculous.

So, considering all this, why there is so much hate against the Voldemort Race? …i mean High Elves, i’m sorry.

Because the Horde will fall apart apparently if they become playable …

… or somehow, people that play Blood Elves will have the game ruined for them if they become playable … their pixels will mean less I guess if someone else’s pixels look like their pixels … or even close to their pixels …

… or cause Ion made an offhand statement out of ignorance on a topic he, as a Horde lifer, knows little about and gave a stupid answer that has become the meme of the entire conversation …

… or something.

I thought I read somewhere the horde would fall apart when Void Elves went live. I could of sworn that was more than on comment on the forums…

tbf, pale pretty elves are a part of the horde faction identity and a core race

that being said, if blizzard caved to a vocal minority on the forums and DID copy paste blood elves

the game would become world of elfcraft

there would no more faction identity. it would be pale pretty elves on both factions everywhere

so theres also gameplay factors keeping alliance pale pretty elves as flavor NPCs. wold of elfcraft is not what i want the game to become!

So void elves aren’t pretty or pale already?

I think “all the hate” is basically a VERY LOUD vocal minority that, as Aedrid pointed out, is worried about the sanctity of the Blood Elf race.

The truth is that if the High Elves became an Allied Race, they would NOT share a starting zone in Silvermoon, take the story away from the Blood Elves (they would get their own story like the other allied races) or detract from the Horde in any way.

Blood Elves are already available from the start. You would have to UNLOCK High Elves- just like any other Allied race! Allied races- even the most popular are very much a minority compared to the core races.

Void elves are very popular, more popular than many “core” races on both Horde and Alliance.

Do you know how many different flavors of elf this game has? Not just the playable ones either. There are tons of elf types in this game, and guess what? Many of them are requested to be AR. Not just High Elves, but the Naga are just another flavor of elves. There are 4 playable types of elves now, in the future I predict at least 4 more in the next few years. High Elves are THE most requested race to be in the Alliance as playable. Over 30 Mega threads. This thread alone will hit 18000 posts before the day is out. Not all of them are the same posters either. This is something wanted by many in the player base, something that will make blizzard money.

Heck they could put it as a purchase AR option and make a freaking mint from it.

This thread and the others like it have done alot of the work for blizzard in terms for art decisions, story outlines and ideas for recruitment quests. The notion of population went out the door the day the first void elf walked out of that portal by the embassy. Void Elves didn’t kill the horde, neither will High Elves.

True but, imagine how popular Void Elves would be without that rep grind for the Argussian Reach from the previous expansion and available from the start.

There are a lot of players- ones who are just starting with their first level 1 character and ones that have just joined after a long absence that never played Legion- that never unlocked Void Elves.

I think the fact that void elves are so numerous despite having to jump through hoops is a fairly good indication of this. Would probably be bad PR to sell an allied race though.
