The Unofficial High Elf Discussion Megathread

Except, Ion was clearly not being coy. He was answering the question very seriously. He even followed the answer saying that he was going to expect a lot of “hate mail” for his response.

Even his statement about “going Horde if you want pale elves” has truth in it as it IS currently the only way to play pale skinned elves.

You don’t have a leg to stand on here.

It all depends on how you use the “Kind of”, in the situation with Ion, saying “Kind of are” makes out like they’re similar, but not really. Also notice how he says “Different eye colour and backstory in terms of their relationship to magic and the Sunwell.” Which indicates he knows of some differences between the two. But as he continues it becomes evident he doesn’t know that much about them.

Kind of are =/= Are.

Gotta love that.

I like how he states how faction identity and pride is important on his answer and seconds after he tell Alliance players to roll Horde otherwise screw you.

No offense guys, but I really don’t want this to derail into another Ion bashing tangent. We’ve had several of those already and it really doesn’t do any good.

What’s been said has been said and PLENTY of people have made their voices heard already.

I mostly wanted to focus on the Blood elf = High elf “sources” that fyre has been using and trying to put them into perspective.

Should just ignore anything Fyre says and not respond to any of their posts.

tbf, Fyre is now a psychologist who can definitely state that Ion was being coy.

tbf, Fyre is the BEST of the trolls cause he makes the case FOR High Elves more than the case against him.

tbf, I think Fyre is actually Ion because neither one of them make sense when it comes to anything to do with High Elves

The day we see Highelves will be the day the DEVs would have admit they were wrong do you think that would happen with the current egomaniacs running things, I mean really, they let the game get to where it is today cause of their egos and have dev twitch updates to hear themselves talk. That day my friends is a long way off.

You are qouting the Warcraft Encyclopedia, which was published at the end of 2006.

They’ve stacked 12 years of lore on top of it, so… if we are pretending like this is still true, then we should also be pretending Blood Elves don’t exist.

I can’t say I completely disagree with you. Part of the reason I come to this thread is because I like seeing other people who aren’t as cynical as I am.

I think there’s an insurmountable ego at play here … whether from one individual or a group of people making decisions. I think that ego is what kept High Elves from being implemented and led to the creation of Void Elves.

That being said, IF they are to be trusted and IF they actually ARE paying attention to what the players would be interested in for any new Allied Races then all talk of Lightforged Undead and Junker Gnomes will go out the window and they will find a way to implement High Elves into the game.

It will take them saying “oops, we made a mistake” or (my more plausible theory) for them to realize they need to add something to the game that will excite people/maybe even bring a few people back. This expac isn’t exactly a raging success.

The fact that they don’t see the monetary possibilities High Elves present alone is unfortunate. The fact that they are THE most requested Alliance race AND could bring in money from subs or faction changes or race changes is something they HAVE to be talking about somewhere at Bliz. It would be a monetary AND PR win for them ("Hey look! We listened to you, the players! Now open your wallets and get out those credit cards and show us how much you love High Elves!).

But there’s one or a group of devs who think they can design everything in this game and the players will be happy. Then when the players aren’t happy, they don’t listen to the players as to what would make them happy and they implement what they think the players are REALLY asking for … because what the players usually find problems with are their ideas, how they implement them, or the justification (what little we get) on why things “are the way they are.”

The openness and humility from this development team that would be needed for them to say “Guess what: High Elves are coming!” is just something I’m not entirely sure is there … but the people keeping this forum thread alive at least make me occasionally hopeful it could.

I’ve felt over the years that the devs really fight against the community and there is a cynical approach the devs take when they do stuff, its like we got this new awesome system coming buuuuuuut attitude. There is always a But Or OBTW thing with the devs that leads you not to trust anything they say and your always waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I really want to see how the meeting that decided for void elves went. I’d like to count how many facepalms happened there.

I think for this one, Ion needs to be the one to correct this issue.

Whatever they decide there will be a ,we did this buuuuuuuut!

And tbh, it really is what I’ve said it is before, which is thinking like a sheep. What if Ion says something you disagree with, anti-helfers? It doesn’t necessarily have to be about the High Elf topic, but it absolutely will be about a topic you hold dear and wish for better dev PR on, but then Ion suddenly gives you a condescending answer that you don’t like to hear and doesn’t address the issue. Are you just going to go “Well’p, he said it, guess I’ll just accept it and move on?” Tbh now, you should critically analyze and you shouldn’t take that lying down. Companies are nothing without their customers, so you should never let them take advantage of your good will like that.

Well if he doesn’t fix it during his tenure, his eventual successor will.

Looking forward to the day when I can transfer my Horde Paladin to the Alliance where he belongs.

For me it’s a blue eyed, platinum haired arcane mage in Alliance blue’s.

I may race change my Void Elf Rogue to High Elf and rp that she somehow purified herself.

I would do the same also. I keep my void elf in full closed armor so you cant tell its a zombie elf running around
