The Unofficial High Elf Discussion Megathread

Learning their history and culture, seeing them in action, and getting to know multiple characters of their race is entirely meaningless?

I’m talking about existing context in terms of justification for their existence.

Suramar had history. We’ve known it for a long time. We know about it through multiple novels and storylines. It MEANS something.

And yes it does matter that their story was introduced over a year, especially when it’s recounted as one of the most memorable in the game’s history.

And Nightborne are the second elf race shoehorned into the Horde.

“Because having not a single Void Elf in the story until their implementation equals Nightborne and Highmountain having a entire zone and storyline to introduce them”

BuT AllErIA!

I agree that Highmountain and Nightborne were created to enrich Legion content, but to compare them, which had a proper introduction, to the Void Elves who didn’t even existed before the patch they became playable it’s beyond me.

And Void Elves are the second Elf race shoehorned into the Alliance.

Look, I’m not saying they’re fully equal in terms of narrative, but they were clearly a late design choice that I fully believe were slated to be High Elves initially.

I don’t think not having a huge setup has affected the AR’s success.

Like I said, slapping void in front of a race is not unique, it was a 5 minute scenario, it had zero depth compared to any other allied race this game has gotten.

Obviously if it’s your opinion I can’t convince you otherwise, but I just feel like you’re just willingly being ignorant for your own arguments convenience or you just really don’t like the alliance.

I can’t believe anyone with any knowledge of the stories of wow races would actually sit through the void elf scenario and nod saying “wow, such a unique race with so many new things to offer because they’re now void instead of not void, wow” and that’s being generous.

That would make the High Elves the first Elf race not shoehorned into the Alliance.

tbf, after legion and the intro of void elves, the alliance high elves are nowhere to be found in bfa except keeping portals open for the alliance and human males beds warm

Dunno what to tell you. If you want to dislike something, it’s easy to be a critic.

wow, so epic. amirite gamers?
but to be fair, they are unique, lol. No other race in the game has void tentacles coming out from their hair, and can turn into a poc character with just a passive.
that’s epicgames

That had an entire zone story dedicated to them

That had an entire story dedicated to them with the vindicaar, their seperation from the draenei and we fought alongside for the end of Legion. (Btw, I don’t like this race)

That have many years in wow history, obviously. Do I really need to elaborate?

Had an entire expansion and world dedicated to them. See WoD.

While I dislike KT humans, they had an entire history and continent, that dates to pre-vanilla. Making them fat was dumb, yes.

So again, you’re just being willingly ignorant. I don’t believe you are dumb, so I don’t believe you actually sat through the void elf scenario nodding and thinking they relevant to the story and some completely new race, or that somehow slapping void in front of a name is unique.
I don’t believe you are this dumb (or completely devoid of any knowledge of wow lore).

It isn’t about cosmetics.
I personally think they look cool, yes. But the way their introduction to this WORLD was handled is ridiculous. And if looking cool was enough for you to go “wow void elves, wow” then that’s another topic completely.

Rule of cool prevails . The Race i play have no history of it’s own, almost no important characters, it’s thematic is a generic thematic, but at least i have a tentacle in my hair, that’s cool right? If it’s cool, it’s good.
I rather developers actually make good stories involving the Void Elves instead of
KO0L STUF like animating a T-Rex.

But it’s the only playable race with that theme.
That’s what i’m getting at here, lol.
What do HM tauren get? Being mooses.
Kul’tirans theme? Being morbidly obese. Wow. So epic.
Besides, it’s your choice to play the race without

Finding some Elves in the woods. (After having to grind rep with a completely separate race)

The only one here pretending is you.

It’s nowhere near the same level and you know it.

Kinda ironic that you do the same thing to High Elves in an effort to downplay their importance and relevance.

Read Dorp last post about those Allied Races, they have stories and zones dedicated to them, it’s a plus for them, Highmountain and Kul’tirans have cultures, stories, you want for a playable race, i see races beyond their visuals.
Just in case, i will clarify that forcing out how cool and interesting the Void Elves are is not going to make me stop asking for High Elves.

The only thing Void Elves have that is their own is widespread Schizophrenia

Every other race in the game is able to use Shadow/Void one way or another (and it’s even a big part of Troll culture). Yet the devs thought they could make a race whose sole identity is “they use the Void, how cool and unique”.

I, for one, think that void elves were introduced horribly, with no setup and at a moment that would’ve been great for introducing High Elves (faction conflict focus).

However, I have to concede that they’re being built on (slowly and little-by-little, but still) and with their contributions to the war effort have brought some much-needed darkness to the Alliance in a time when Blizzard claims to want things “morally grey” with one faction being led by the Lich Queen and the other by Jesus. I still think the worgen could’ve filled that niche tho.(Greymane was the perfect setup for that, but BOOK SPOILER things happened so bleh.)

Having a weak lore intro hasn’t really mattered at all when it comes to playing the race.

Void Elves having the weakest lore setup and one of the strongest turnouts tells me rule of cool is still the safe play here. Lore is bent around the gameplay demands, rarely vice versa.

not really. ion said alliance high elves were never seriously considered because lorewise they are too close to blood elves…who are literally playable high elves who call themselves blood elves. thats why they came up with void elves which were a cool way to give the alliance the best model in the game since we were getting the nightbourne
