I believe High Elves would’ve had a similar turnout while being more appropriate and satisfying introduction-wise, since they require less setup. The void themes(and hell, even possibly void elves themselves) being worked on through BFA would’ve made for a much more satisfying introduction for them later on, possibly in 8.0 or just before it, since we’ll probably go a lot deeper into void around then.
I do believe your point about how blood elf player reaction tipped the scales harder in Blizz’s decision, though. As you say, safe bet, seems to have turned out well enough for them for the time being.
I’m a tad upset by how it happened, but alas I can but hope and see where the game goes from here. Hey, maybe I’ll get my ultimate wish and this faction nonsense will be done away with. Guy can dream.

why do you play void elf if you think they are horrible?
Yeah, sorry, I’m not gonna talk to you. Have a good day, madam.

@ Lydon. Just going to throw this out there but Horde Players asked for Brown Orcs since BC. What they got was quite literally the color scheme of every Orc tribe on Draenor as a playable “race” so in-fact if you view the 3 Dwarf clans as different “races” Horde players got more or less 9 playable “races” via one Allied race.

the Mag’har orcs are a group of united clans from an AU draenor. they are not different “races”
Mag’har Orcs were shown in BC as a singular group and not the remnant of multiple clans and they only had one skin color of Brown and that’s what was asked for. The point being is Brown Orcs were asked for and Horde Players got far more.

this is true. and they are FABULOUS.
again. the AU Mag’har orcs are a group of united clans brought together by garrosh. they arent the ones you encounter in tbc expansion
i don’t think most people care. they also don’t care about how terrible their racials are either. i made a priest which i’ve wanted an orc priest since i’ve started playing. he could’ve had no racials at all and i’d still love him.

the racials are pretty awful
this is my priest. he is AWESOME.

Yes, and for this reason I still support Wildhammer Dwarves under extra options for Bronzebeard dwarves so they don’t even have to take up an AR slot.

Pass. Wildhammers will be a full Allied Race, just like High Elves.

Wildhammer have their own separate culture and history from Bronzebeard, they should absolutely get to be an Allied Race of their own.
Hopefully the Alliance never has to suffer another Void Elf/LFD “NEW and EXCITING” AR being added

More or less how I feel about them. I like them as an option for Shadow Priest that makes sense on the Alliance, but at the same time I dislike how Blizzard overlooked how that could have been just as easily fulfilled by Worgen and Dark Irons, creating this mess by their own hands in the first place.
I’ve actually been less invested in my VE Priest and Rogue characters as time has went on though, whereas I like my Mage a lot. (Even though she feels very High Elf in personality, I still try to treat her as a Void Elf character despite such.)
He didn’t say they were horrible, just that their backstory is terrible. Which it honestly is.
They should have been the High Elves from Outland that were still loyal to Alleria and the Alliance, captured and void-cursed by an evil ethereal or something, instead of this rushed backstory about some random Blood Elves that were never mentioned or known about until Blizzard finally got done with the Horde allied races and realized Alliance need allied races too.
As Worgen and Draenei prove, Blizzard are just terrible at fleshing out and creating backstories for Alliance races. It’s a practice that will never go away or improve it seems, as the Void Elves sadly prove.

If you took the time to look you would first know I was replying to Lydon, second it was a response to his complaint about Brown Orcs.
“Wow, Orcs but brown.” All I was stating is that BROWN ORCS were specifically asked for.

Why do Horde players get so defensive about Alliance wanting things that are iconic to them? It’s not like we want Ogres or Trolls all of a sudden.

We got evolved Highborne. We did not get a druidic focused race nor there staple druid class. Even though lore supported Nightborne as druid botanists.
As soon as you guys got void elves you were never going to get high elves. /thread
