There is a very big difference from a mention stating “this race is extinct”, in which it actually is not, and from a mention stating “the remnants of this race never gathered in large numbers”, which is still debatably true.
What rough estimate we have of Highelven numbers after the genocide puts them at fairly low, now add that 90% of them renamed themselves to Bloodelves. Now add the several lodges/groups of them with different leaders.
It is quite difficult to state that the citation that they are not unified is indeed no longer correct.
Plus, the Draenei being Alliance, while fine was a major retcon of a race. After TBC it was even acknowledged that they shouldn’t just invent races out of whole cloth or commit that kind of major retcon again. Yet with Void Elves they once again did it. And of-course it was the Alliance side that got this curious experiment.
Perhaps the issue here is the definition of ‘gathering’. In this context it means gathered as a people in a nation and home, under one banner. I believe you’re taking it to mean gathered as in…we’re together in a location.
Looking at the remnant Highelves, they indeed never gathered to attempt to refound themselves as a nation nor as a people. They remained divided in lodges and different homes.
Some suspected that with the return of Alleria, that she would call forth all survivors and bring forth a new Highelven state…however then the whole Voidelf thing happened.
Void elves are also not a nation, however it could be said that the void elves are all indeed unitied under one goal…though they are still new, so who knows if some separation occurs.
He’s been pretending like contributing to a fan Wiki, which he probably hasn’t done, makes him some kind of authority figure for the last hour when literally anybody can edit a wiki. They’re community driven.
Last night he was just trolling any pro-high-elf player and even neutral people.
It’s one thing to say that there’s no nation of high elves. That’s obviously true.
It’s another to say that they are just scattered “groups of individuals” that “do not gather in significant numbers” and “cannot even truly be said to have a culture”. That’s obvious non longer canon. Most of them have gathered in Dalaran, and most of those in Dalaran have coordinated among themselves to form a militia to safeguard their interests.
That paragraph of the encyclopedia is terribly outdated. It was made to emphasize the (non longer canon) fact that the high elves were too few and too scattered at the time. Later lore proved without a doubt that it should be at least revised.
Hmm, I see your point. The text itself was at the time a direct quote, but its wording could indeed be a bit…confusing.
I’ll personally try to adjust it but it is usually quite difficult to remove something if it still has a citation. I think the best solution here is indeed to add a mention of later events.
