The edited version? Let me help you put more objective facts:
After the Divine Bell was stolen from Darnassus through use of Dalaran’s portal network, Jaina after unlawfully murdering two of Aethas bodyguards, ordered Aethas Sunreaver to surrender and the Horde to leave Dalaran.
Aethas Sunreaver refused to cooperate, and Jaina promptly unlawfully captured him and still unlawfully ordered a paramilitary group affiliated to one of Dalaran´s citizens but NOT the Council itself the “Purge of Dalaran” (btw, leader of the Council =/= Queen, my dear. Road To Damnation will help you figure out the difference).
The orders, clearly stated in questing, were the Sunreavers would be imprisoned in the Violet Hold. The ones who resisted, however, could be killed but then we have those NPCs expressely condemned to be murdered for the grand crime of not subjecting themselves to a paramilitary group´s unlawful agenda.
The Purge was conducted by the Silver Covenant a group NOT affiliated to any lawful policing position deemed by the Council beforehand, with Alliance forces later joining them (the Council of the Six usual brand of double standards… they should had named the SC Dalaran´s PD before the Purge happens to make their actions legal, the fools).
In the Horde questing, you see Silver Covenant detaining the sunreavers that do not resist in the area of the sewers where you arrive. yeah, and we see SC feeding people to sharks too for the lols btw… also Sunreaver dialogue expressely mentions they don´t have a flying f over why are they being harrased by the SC
Regarding six… lore conossieurs DO mention her but in regards to her cold murder of Aethas bodyguards… and no, the leadership seat on the Council doesn NOT make her a dictator nor a monarch. The execution of the Purge screwed the Due Process, making the whole thing unlawful. In our World, Jaina would had been jailed for it, cause people died thanks to her making the wrong choices at the moment.
The Horde had just made use of Dalaran in the War, showing themselves to be traitors and underserving of the what the City had to offer. Getting rid of them as soon as possible was entirely reasonable. Straight up mudering the civillians, not so much.
Aethas could’ve prevented any of this, but he was too much of a coward.
It’s not our world, thought, and judging the situation as if it were do not help. We don’t know if what Jaina did was unlawful since we don’t know Dalaran’s laws. But, since the Council never did anything against her and she remained the leader until she quit in Legion, she probably didn’t do anything unlawful.
Just out of curiosity… is there some canon source I can refer to that establishes:
-all the laws of Dalaran
-who has authority to deputize people to act as policing agents
-what power is granted to whomever holds the position Jaina held at the time
I’m not being snarky here, just genuinely curious because I’d find it fascinating to read.
nowhere during that quest are any elves killing other elves
just a quest npc narrative where hostile npcs attack each other
also remember when all the elves stood shoulder to shoulder against elisande and fought each other cause they hate each other? oh yea that never happened guess they dont hate each other after all
I can totally see a law allowing the head of the Kirin Tor to take decisions alone if the city is under threat, as well as giving it the power to deputize any citizen in an emergency.
I for one really want the art done that showcased the buldings in azsuna if they were restored.
A suggestion is that could be used as the new high elf architecture instead of having blood elf buildings but blue.
I would really love that. However I also see a chance to get it via the narthelas highborne joining the alliance. While there is really no evidence to suggest that will happen it is interesting they chose narthelas mages to be the one holding open the alliance portal to azsuna in the new portal room. that isn’t the case for the horde portal room.
Azshara was the one who cursed them into that state and well guess who we fight in 8.2.
I would be ecstatic if prince ferondis returned as part of the questline in nazjatar. Perhaps the curse could be lifted through these events?
I can see them being their own allied race but I believe it is far more likely they would just be folded in with the night elves and have prince ferondis as a new recurring character in the future of WoW.
And Jaina, the LEADER of the Council of the Six, did the same. Also, Due Process. Go back to read Road to Damnation, and you will get my point.
What Jaina did was mess around… she could had been right to a point, but she screwed up in the execution automathically damaging her credibility as a leader.
For the third time: ROAD TO DAMNATION. Go back and read it so you guys learn HOW is the Due Process in universe when one member of the Council is suspect of screwing up inside the city.
It´s the same Council that did nothing regarding Kael´thas, dear -whose imprisonment WAS unlawful too considering he still had his seat in the government-, me thinks the cowardice and double standards comes from them.
So because they wanted to get rid of them ASAP is that the SC screwed up with the Sunreaver´s flying mounts, amrite?
Terribad execution if orders if you ask me… frabkly it was just Jaina throwing a temper tantrum and the SC being too happy at cattering to her and taking advantage while they could.
Current lore disagrees… so back up your point with quotes or admit headcanon.
Yes, putting them in jail is getting rid of them. You wouldn’t want inhabitants of your city and members of your order that turned out to be traitors getting out and possibly handing precious information to enemies, would you? You arrest them, you don’t let them go away and turn what they know against you.
while jaina did take action it wasn’t unprecedented. Dalaran has always been an alliance member nation. Alliance nations just have more freedom and dalaran has voted at times to allow the horde into the city. Unless facing an extreme threat such as the scourge or the legion we can assume horde military are not allowed inside the city beyond a guard detail for the civilians. The alliance on the other hand has free reign to use the city for military purposes such as a waypoint for transporting supplies.
for those that doubt this please show me a source of dalaran stating to leave the alliance.
Also take consideration that when the horde started the war of the thorns anduin ordered for dalaran to be informed and to send mages to help evacuate civilians. This was before it was on fire. while you could make an argument that they were helping in a crisis situation it doesn’t dispute that action would otherwise break their supposed neutrality in the faction war.
we can also see kirin tor mages helping alliance forces during the forsaken invasion of gilneas.
Personally, my preference for High Elf/Blood Elf difference and uniqueness would play into something like the “Red Oni, Blue Oni” trope.
High Elves - ice and lightning magic, better guerilla tacticians and scouts, stoic but rugged and down-to-earth temperament, moon or sun/moon motifs, blue and silver color scheme
Blood Elves (Red Oni) - fire and blood magic, better frontline military and knights, passionate, proud, and somewhat vain personality, sun motifs, red and gold color scheme
Granted it puts a bit of a wrench in Void Elf themes, since they’re quite a blue oni contrast to the Blood Elves as well, but maybe if their rival is more properly done San’layn it’ll even out fine.
I didn’t see anybody correct you on this, earlier, but it’s worth you taking note that the change from Night Elf into High Elf was experienced almost immediately after it became impossible to draw upon the Well of Eternity.
I don’t know how much of this next statement is headcanon, and how much is corroborated fact; but isn’t it currently presumed that the reason Night Elves (and all of their evolutionary offshoots) become unwell when they’re distant from any source of ambient magic is that they, the Night Elves, were quite literally shaped by magic?
IF it’s true that the early Highborne began to change almost immediately after sailing beyond the range of the Well of Eternity, and…
IF it’s true that the reason for this rapid physiological change was a combination of experiencing a prolonged period without a connection to any consistent source of magic and, later, a prolonged period of connection to a completely different source of magic (i.e. the Sunwell)…
THEN it must be true, in theory, that any other group (comprised of individuals descended from the same original population) which subjects itself to similar circumstances, such as a prolonged period without a connection to any consistent source of magic or, potentially, a prolonged period of connection to a completely different source of magic, might also develop completely distinct visual traits, no?
Thats a pretty good way to put them as a trope actually.
If we want to push the Oni you’re after the Pale Oni who are smaller and least of number, highly spiritual so given the VElfs obsession into void magic and using it despite opposition in the rest of the Alliance and they’re known for trying to keep there minds in balance without the whispers taking over.
twelve thousand posts ago i think i commented that there are way too many elves in the game already. I will repeat this when another 12k posts have passed
