The Unofficial High Elf Discussion Megathread

So if Void Elves had been High Elves transformed by the void, and had the same appearance they do now, there would be no problem, right?

There would be disgruntlement but as has been said before the vast majority of us would have accepted this as a compromise.

They have been altered from their looks but they would culturally be high elves and they would have that background to them

Good news then! There are High Elves traveling to Telogrus Rift to study the void and would presumably volunteer to undergo the transformation process once it can be replicated.

No, they wouldn’t, people are free to switch between both factions already, so this is a disingenuous argument by anyone who makes it, including Blizzard.

And the Alliance is the smaller faction of the two, so there’s also that.

So giving Alliance a copy of the Horde’s most popular race wouldn’t affect game balance? Yeah, ok.

Exactly, yep. If it’s the history you’re after, there’s plenty enough there to say that the actual Void Elf you rolled was never a Blood Elf.

Another reason I consider antis with this position disingenuous. They literally gave the Alliance all of the Blood Elf aspects they didn’t ask for, it was a complete monkeys paw scenario.

I mean technically they did. You guys got blue eyed Thalassian elves that fill into the magical aspects that they were with during WC2.

I mean they already got rid of the unique things we saw in the Rift for generics.

(This is also meant to be sarcastic.)

But void elves, an even smaller minority, aren’t a problem?

High elves are part of the Alliance since 1995.

Yes, because like I said, people are already coming and going, and many also actively play both factions, so High Elves nor any other race is not going to tip the scales much if even at all.

For this to work, they’d have to remove the voice lines that reference the player character having been a blood elf, and the blood elven snootyness that void elves have.

Blood Elves aren’t genetically more snooty than High Elves.

What voice lines say that they’re Blood Elves? I can’t think of any off the top of my head.

“It was high, then blood, then void. Get the order right.” is one of their /sillies

We don’t know how many Void Elves there are. Blizzard may have chosen for them to be former Blood Elves because there simply aren’t enough High Elves left to draw ranks from.

WOW didn’t exist in 1995. The vast majority of High Elves in the RTS became the Blood Elves that have been playable since BC.

No, but High Elven culture is less snooty than Blood Elven, so Blood Elves tend to be snooty much more often. This is reflected in the voice lines.

That’s a stretch to say that she’s referring to herself as having been a blood elf, but I could see why you’d think that.

A lot of the /silly lines are pretty meta.

I don’t know where you’re drawing this from.

It is reflected in the plot all throughout the game. Blood Elf voice lines are very snooty, while High Elf npcs use much less snooty quotes (taken from Night Elf npcs).

What if they just want the Void Elf personality to be snooty if you’re saying they’re painting entire races with a particular demeanor?

Sylvanas was always described as rather snooty, and she was never a Blood Elf.

Sylvanas was a High Elf of Quel’Thalas. We’re not talking about the High Elves that became Blood Elves, as Sylvanas would have if she were alive at the time.
