The Unofficial High Elf Discussion Megathread

Lor’themar isn’t very happy about it, and openly calls them traitors during the battle for Undercity. This leads me to believe that there may be some truth in the theory that some Blood Elves may be continuing to funnel off in hopes of joining the void elves because it was said that despite Umbric and his followers being exiled, many Blood Elves continued to assist him in the Ghostlands from Silvermoon; suggesting that there are many elves seduced by this newly discovered fount of magic. This is why they remind me so much of Kael’thas, as he too was seduced by the promise of great power and was willing to meddle with forces beyond his imagining to attain it.

I think someone on the art team is a high elf fan but people like Ion who have more pull over the game design at this point are vehemently against it.

Considering that the most likely recruits for Void Elves would be unhappy Blood Elves I think Lor’themar needs to very worried about them.

Don’t be surprised if in a future patch we start seeing basements in Silvermoon with Void Portals.

And Lor’themar exiled people for not partaking in the fel.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think the Void Elves are evil, or wish to see Azeroth’s destruction, and like Umbric they see the void as a means of power to protect and serve the Alliance and greater good, but like Kael’thas that power has likely blinded them to it’s potential dangers as well.

I imagine that all this meddling with the void is going to reach a boiling point where something terrible happens and the Void elves realize the error in wielding the void so recklessly, and learn to better harness it. Much like Kael’thas’s Sunfury forces realized the error in their ways upon witnessing the destruction Kael’thas wrought and returned to Silvermoon.

I keep having the sneaking suspicion that this “boiling point” will somehow effect the High elves on the Alliance, and either convert them into Ren’dorei too, or send them running back to Silvermoon and the Sunwell.

If one of those two things become inevitable, I hope it’s the first. Something out of their control or will turns them and they have to deal with it. At least there would be tragedy in their fate and the choice to not delve into this power too much. I’d really really despise Blizzard if the high elves just went Horde after all these years. I’m already close to my “not care about this story anymore” point.

In the great Bazaar in Silvermoon there’s a gathering of Blood Elves condemning Lor’themar’s betrayal toward the Alliance, claiming that the humans, and dwarves are their true allies, and that the Horde is their “true” enemy, while another group of Blood Elves disagree, claiming that the humans and dwarves were never their allies, and that the Alliance prince himself led the scourge to their doors. This shows that there is a lot of strife among the Blood Elves.

As a Horde player, I would welcome the High Elves back to Silvermoon, but that’s my personal bias. As I see High elves they are extremely dignified (to a fault) and many exiled themselves because they disagreed with the disgusting practices of meddling with chaotic fel magic, which is something I see mirroring this situation with the Void elves. It also feels the most practical, as High elves could simply be added as a customization option for Blood Elves (Blue eyes, lighter skin tones, etc.)

But first and foremost I want to play an “Actual” High elf as they are now, and it’s just not something I see Blizzard, or Ion ever caving on.

They would never do that though. The first fraction when they left was because the High Elve felt loyalty to the Humans/Dwarves. The second was over magic.

Since then they are literally at War.

The Quel’Danil High Elves are against Arcane Magic and would be a threat to the very way of life in Silvermoon should their influence spread. They are currently kill targets of the Horde and hate them with a passion.

They have a fierce loyalty to the Wildhammer Dwarves.

Not to mention the Forsaken attack them fiercely in Cataclysm and those are the Blood Elves closest allies.

The Silver Covenant are literally a group made to oppose the Blood Elves and the Horde and have been one of the most dedicated Alliance forces.

When the piece fell in Dalaran and the Silver Covenant where told to lock up the Sunreavers they started feeding them to sharks and drowning them in sinks before going to War with them on the Isle of Thunder.

Stormwind Elves would never join the Horde.

Dalaran a largely neutral group have locked up the Blood Elves twice. And would never be welcomed in Silvermoon. Not to mention a large part of them formed the Silver Covenant. An anti Horde/Blood Elf organization.

This isn’t even going into the cultural differences of the two groups.

High Elves rejoining Silvermoon in any meaningful way is the most unrealistic idea out of all of them.

Ion insisting that being a Cat/Bear are the core of what it means to be a Druid and that dino forms can’t be a thing.

Things can change.

I think if Blizzard wants to end the high elves once and for all, turn them into unwilling void elves. Keep their characters in the Alliance, make them reject their status but need to adapt to it.

Maybe the blood elves close off the Sunwell’s energies and the void elf condition starts to spread to all magic-deprived elves or something. Whatever.

Going Horde would be the third and final spit on the fans’ faces.

I think the author intended to make it a High Elf, otherwise he wouldn’t change the underwear color.
This could be a solid base for a High Elf model honestly, when i think how a High Elf could look like in a character creation screen it’s really close to this. It’s a unnatural skin color but too natural for a Void Elf, but importantly, distinct from a Blood Elf.
Make those eyes natural and add other things to customize and you have a suitable model for the Allied Race that we are looking for.

Jim:
Question, what kind of elf is best?

Dwight:
That’s a ridiculous question.

Jim:
False. Void Elf.

Dwight:
That’s debatable. There are basically two schools of thought.

Jim:
Fact. Void Elves eat High Elves. Void Elves. High Elves. Battlestar Galactica.

I have no doubt the author wanted to make a high elf, but the end result could fit the void elves nicely. Maybe it would just need a slightly paler skin.

The elves that stayed for “loyalty” included Rommath, and Kael’thas remember, and it was shortly after this that the Alliance at large condemned them to death without a second thought. Many of the Elves that remained with the Alliance returned after Arthas’ attacked to help destroy the corrupted Sunwell. While there is no way to confirm actual numbers, it’s quite reasonable to say that a considerable portion of High elves only left because of the disagreement regarding magic, and it continues to be reoccurring element when a conflict between the two groups does occur. Even Rommath himself states that he does not feel good about killing High Elves when they had to rescue the Sunreavers.

Many Blood Elves do not hold a grudge toward Dalaran for the imprisonment, like Aethas Sunreaver, and many other Blood Elves, they wish to reuinfy with Dalaran, as they consider it their home and have lived their since before even Jaina’s grandfather was born (An actual quote from the Sunreavers.)

And the Quel’danil lodge is quite segregated from the rest of the world according to the quests in the Hinterlands. They are no against magic, they simply refrained from it after the Sunwell was destroyed, and learned to live without it. When the Draenei priestess settles in Quel’danil lodge, many of the Highvale Elves are brought under her tutelage, suggesting they’re not entirely against magic in all it’s forms.

Actually only one High Elf fed a Blood Elf to a shark in the sewers, but in truth that’s where all the less-than-savory things occur, (there’s even high elf on high elf violence in the sewers) and that particular High Elf was deemed especially “nasty” when you confront him during the rescue for the Sunreavers. I would not say he accurately reflects the all the High Elves.

Additionally after the bombing of Theramore when Jaina attempts to take the focusing iris and flood Orgimmar, and Varian tells her to remove the Sunreavers from Dalaran she is reasoned with by Kalec, and Jaina refuses, claiming that Dalaran is a symbol of hope for all the races of Azeroth, during this time a cut scene plays showing High Elves and Blood Elves laughing and socializing together in harmony. Suggesting that relations between the two races are not inherently negative.

And lastly after the return of the Sunwell the High Elves and Blood Elves are seen together at the well, and Auric Sunchaser himself can be seen praising a Blood Elf player for restoring Anastarian’s blade, and that both the Quel’dorei and Sin’dorei both should gather together, and unite as one in remembrance of what happened to the Sunwell. This serves as an example of the potential good between the two, and that while the two might have their differences they are all considered “children of silvermoon.” this is said by both Auric, and Lor’themar, both respective leaders of groups of both High and Blood elves.

We can agree to disagree, but I’ve seen enough evidence of High Elves and Blood Elves getting along to support the idea of them returning to Silvermoon, especially should something regarding the void elves occur that might put them in danger, or impune their dignity like when the Fel was introduced to Silvermoon.

Also, while it’s nice that Ion changed his mind about the Zandalari druids, I don’t think that indicative of him changing his mind about the High Elves, as it’s something he seems very adamant on, while the druid form sounds like something that was still in development when this Q&A was being broadcast. Not only did Ion disagree with playable High elves on the Alliance on a fundamental mechanic level, but to add insult to injury he then openly mocked the idea with the “The Horde is waiting for you” comment. If Void elves were never introduced I would be more hopeful about it, but the best we can hope for now is alternate shades for Void elves to live out that fantasy. Though personally, for me, I’d rather have High Elves show up intact (without the void) regardless of what faction they’re in.

This thread is still ridiculous even in 2019. Half the posts in it are done by like 30 people back and fourth posting. There will never be high-elves in this game. People just have to accept that.

This thread will keep existing. You just have to accept that.

It was hardly the Alliance at large. It was one General who was essentially a rogue warlord, and he was a racist dick to everyone including gnomes and dwarves. He said mean things, and abandoned them. Its not like he was launching an attack on Silvermoon, and he wasn’t even from Stormwind, but Lorderean. The Blood Elves should be just as pissed at the horde for the actions of the Stormreaver clan for their attack during the second war. That was at least a direct attack on them going after the runestones.

NO. We don’t “have to accept that”.

We’ll keep asking for what we want until we get it or the game shuts down and there’s not darn thing you can do about it.

Sorry but you’re just gonna have to deal with seeing this topic continue for the foreseeable future or until we get playable Alliance High Elves. Because we aren’t going anywhere, and we aren’t going to stop. And that’s something YOU have no choice but to accept because there’s nothing you can do to stop us.

You can try… but the last time that was tried bans went out for abusing the flag system

But by all means, try it. See what it gets you.

When Garithos condemned them to death, it was noted that the other Alliance races had no objections to his verdict. This is one of the reasons why Rommath is bitter toward the Kirin Tor, as he was once lived among them and helped teach the humans magic, and even refused the edicts to return home to Silvermoon and abandon the Alliance. Despite this loyalty to the Alliance, they offered him up for execution regardless. This is something I can’t imagine the High elves that remained in stormwind would have been very happy about either, as many of them were family and friends.
