The Unofficial High Elf Discussion Megathread

:open_mouth:

Half Elves are a half-solution. I don’t know why people pursuing High Elves would be satisfied with half of it.

I’m in a hurry, couldn’t even read it yet, but I think this may have some interesting insights:

Tell me your opinions later.

Because it solves the issue of high elves needing to be different from blood elves. Frankly, this is something that the pro high elf community suggested in the first place to make them different from the blood elves.

The only difference with the latter is that these are still “high elves” but with an impure bloodline.

Ok, I’ve read the article. It can be summed as:

  • Nightborne and void elves will be important ahead;
  • Nightborne and night elves will have roles in 8.2 and react to Azshara.
  • The Riftrunners are indeed meant to be void elves near the edge of losing their minds.
  • Confirmed three of my theories:
    — Nightborne were defined to be part of the Horde early on Legion;
    — The idea of void elves came in reaction to Alleria’s story
    — Void elves are creating or are going to create more of themselves. The wording is ambiguous enough to not clarify everything, so I think this is going to be a future plot point.

Not much beyond that. But the article gives me hope that we will indeed see something happen in Quel’thalas soon(ish).

It also reinforces my suspicions that void elves replaced high elves late in development.

I would not be surprised if they had high elves primed as a race and certain members of the team were not on board so they made a new type of elves based on Alleria’s story.

Well would you look at that.

Void Elves are creating more of themselves.

It’s like reading comprehension and honest sense pays off or something.

I mean, for some of us the priority here is on the High Elven lore on the alliance to move forward, which can be done in more ways than just playable High Elves.

Lol, it’s so disingenuous to frame the issue about VE numbers like this.

Come on. if they are a playable race, of course they NEED to be viable. The issue has always been that we still have no clue HOW they are making more VE’s, and from WHOM.

“They start out as a small group,” Danuser continues. “But it’s natural as other elves have found out about them — elves who are interested in new sources of magic, power, or opportunities — would see if they could undergo a similar process. They’re not … recruiting , necessarily, but they’re open to those who show a similar interest.”

We don’t know if anyone has undergone this similar process. We don’t even know if this similar process has been devised yet. We also don’t know if this similar process results in an individual like Alleria or the playable void elves. All we know from the interview is that elves attracted to the power of the void would have reason to join the void elves.

And that’s the issue. VE’s HAVE to be able to multiply, the problem is that we still don’t know how specifically they will go about it.

Have they?

Again, you’re not wrong but let’s use a little common sense.

Sure. That’s been my stance all along and my comment wasn’t directed at anyone who actually understood that.

But there are a lot of people who staunchly believe that Void Elves had no way of producing more of themselves. Like our aptly named worgen friend here.

Cool it with the insults. All I’m saying is that they probably don’t have a way yet.

Even if more void elves are being made, it’s clearly pretty small numbers.

They are not recruiting. Other elves with similar interests are seeking them to see if they could undergo a similar process. His words exactly.

In essence, he says what we see in the game: a few elves visiting to learn. But no clear cut “here’s how they create more”. To me, it’s just hinting at future plot.

I’m sorry, you’re right. I should be kinder. Forgive me a bit of hollow banter.

But onward, I think the fact that we’ve been told a method exists is enough to wave away delusions (no pun intended) of any playable races being a group of any small number.

They absolutely could use this plot point to expand customization options. maybe player characters could assist in a questline similar to the night warrior.

If the dev had answered something clear like “yes, they are making more, there’s a ritual for that”, then it would be settled.

But…

“They start as a small group”
“They are not recruiting”
“Other elves seek them to see if they could undergo a similar process”

Why go around instead of answering directly? Because either it’s not defined or there’s things they still want to show.

I mean, it’s pretty clear cut that they currently aren’t making more.

Seems that may change in the future but who knows what that means.

There might be a second group of researchers or something trying to replicate it and it goes wrong. Creating more Void Elves and some Antagonist in the process.
